Charming piece,
and I wondered where you'd go with that provocative title!
Miskatonic University (Reanimate Me) by RazbaqueDirge 1 month ago
This is kinda cool!
I listened to some other stuff of yours too that I liked, from both site names.
I hang mostly in the classical areas, so I only catch metal, alternative, and other things occasionally; sometimes it's a title that draws me to investigate... like this one.
Good work.
I Thought I'd Hit Rock Bottom (till I woke up on top of you) by spoot 1 month ago
What can I say... I just like it a lot.
Fine lyrics; crisp and to the point and just the right bottom of country twist in chorus.

Get Yer Engine in the Kitchen by Baboon 1 month ago
This has nearly every line and reference you could fit in a song, but brilliantly written... and the guitar track: the best of a lot of rock bands of two decades in one, tight, top-notch tune.
I'm glad I found this! Kudos to you both!

Nice sounds on this; especially cool is the way you did the bridge in the middle.
It feels like being in a smokey, hip, basement nightclub.
Everything is clear and separated.

This is certainly one of the best things you've posted, perhaps best in my opinion for both composition and arrangement/mix.
Interesting melodically, good variety over the ostinato, love the 7/8, clean, solid mix, and sounds...
still using the same music tool/lib?

Nice work again Andreas! Smooth.

A thought on vocal color:
The high tenor part has a bit less strength in the line than it might when exposed, it seems to me; I don't quite know how best to describe; maybe the addition of slight sfz on some notes or a little push on vibrato. It's not a mix issue. (Most prominent in the opening notes.) ?

030908 by jamescollin 2 months ago
I think it's very pretty, melody is good, and so is the orchestral part.
But I have to agree that the hpschrd is not quite right; partly it's a bit too fwd in the mix, and it's not quite the right sound for a true hps. as the articulation can't be staccato'd (as far as I know). The middle two sections are stronger. I'm wondering... what about acoustic guitar, maybe arpeggiated?

There's a rumbly rumbly bass line in the first section so low, I can't tell who's doing it. Timpani, tuba, contrabassoon, combination? Nice cello solo too--doesn't get lost.

Such a nice song!

The sound/mix on both voice and instruments seems just right to me. Everything is simultaneously clear. Way to go both of you.
What Chord by grathy 4 months ago
Nice work; it's amazing what one person can accomplish!

Mix comment: percussion is the most up front, then piano, then voice (it moves fwd sometimes). I'd suggest backing them up a bit (vol dn, more ambience), and piano up a little and brighter to mesh harmonies with the vocals.
Interregnum for Orchestra by soulima 4 months ago
This is excellent; the drive throughout to the quiet end makes me anticipate some giant explosion from a movement to follow! There are are some great spots-- just after halfway the strings are pizz'ing on off beat for example, and I still can't figure out out you're getting the cool sound in the opening bars... ah the magic of orchestration!

My only comment would be to introduce the horn (or maybe a clarinet) earlier, maybe at the 1/3 point, to give a sense of growing development

Ode To Dad by RAVENS 5 months ago
Beautiful.
And worth addressing (with art).
And you hit the bullseye of the subject and the problem.
Musically, it is so well done, nothing distracts--everything melds/moves in the same direction to a single powerful idea.

Not only is the mood dialog good, there is great stuff happenin' ... in the music, cool splashes of guitar and percussion things. Yea, babe.
Dreamshadows v2.2 by georgeptingley 5 months ago
Really nice piece George.

On orchestration, the violin near middle and oboe in the latter half seem a little strong in the mix. Maybe reduce level, or a little low-pass EQ on string (just an idea).

Mix is otherwise fine; stereo is wide open through headphones!
The strong downward progression is very effective.

Celtic Suite by MOVIE 5 months ago
Beautiful as is. But other arrangements would certainly work, especially to re-inforce the celtic mood...

episode 2, maybe a tad slower to savor the new mood?
episode 3, suggests a celt-ish flute on the melody
episode 4, nice low countermelody; unanticipated ending bar.
episode 6/7? nice! 2nd play of phrase with the minor under-harmony is really effective
final: bring the celtic feel home, with a nice ending flourish!

Well done.

Zio by neurologist 5 months ago
I like the piece; good melodies and the orchestration is almost there; perhaps as Dir suggests, since it seems to have a chamber piece feel (4-6 instrument ensemble), but it has a lot of different instruments that come and go.

You could tighten it up by eliminating a couple, and giving their part to other voices. Example: drop a string and make more use the bassoon or another wind instead.

Since this was posted a while ago, you may have revised, and have probably learned more about controlling the electronic ensemble mix. I know I still am.
Strings in argue by neurologist 5 months ago
... and the resolution is suspended indefinitely...... yea write the rest.
I'd add a bit more reverb-ambience to each instrument.
It has the feel and flavor of a string quartet movement. Is the instrumentation actually for solo strings?

Where I Am by herrsolera 5 months ago
This is a fine piece of work (from a lot of musicians). Way to go.

As far as the arranging and the mix, I think it keeps getting better as the song progresses, especially when the trumpet comes in and beyond.

This mixture of styles is something I'm also interested in doing... this is a good example of excellent things that are possible!
the road I travel by Mystified 5 months ago
Nice piece Mystified!
Mood is smooth and matches the field of leaves image.

One critique: there is a percussive *blip* or click beginning in the first few bars that, with the effect on it, sounded like a static or distortion beneath the melodies. I wonder if a small hand drum sound with a long reverb might work. (I was listening with headphones which is brighter than from my studio speakers.)
Guitar Concerto, mov1 by davidsmith99 5 months ago
Thanks everyone for your careful listening and comments.

BTW, I got to hear the Rodrigo Concerto Aranjuez for Guitar and Orchestra performed locally a couple weeks ago. The hall acoustics are excellent; however, they still chose to mic the guitar, which seemed the right choice from listening in the auditorium. It also permitted monitors for the orchestra to help them out. I'm wondering if this is now commonplace in other orchestras.

Comments, lyrics, voice guitar, song structure all good!
My only crtiique (and it's a small thing relative to the whole song) is the percussion in the first instrumental section is a little sparse. I think it needs a little something, a dash of what is used in the 2nd instrumental perhaps.
