| thanks oa. usually i start with drums, or they are a very early part of the track. this tune almost didn't get ANY drums. then i decided to add them to the last pat of the sing. so because i worked on them that way, they were tailored to the song and not the other way around. also oa, thanks for the critique. i thought by having the live upright bass sound going, it would smooth out the elctrified edged of the swirling synths... maybe not enough. it could be a matter of the mixdown. maybe a smoother overall mix will do the trick. i am working on a new version. please check it out when it is released. oh yeah!!! and stay tuned for my newest dance track 'whatever happened'. it should be mixed down for next week's release cycle. |

| i heard the distortion too... i did use a little distorted percussive sound, but i think there is some minor clipping. that is bothersome!!! i hate the export function on garaband, it is hard, (sometimes) to get it to output a sound that is very clean. thanks for the critique ian. i was going to maybe out some vocals on this one and will try and clean up the sound a bit. | |

![]() i like the drama of this. it is like an elctrified ending to a brat pack film from the eighties... you know the anthem that plays when the guy finally gets the girl and then it starts raining and then they embrace... a car drives by and you can hear the swish of the tires as it passes... the embrace is deeper, the kisses are linked together like morse code... and then it fades to black, creditsroll and boyfriends try to pretend that they had something in their eye so as not to let on that they actually got a little choked up. |

![]() i imagine that the inside of your head is not made of brains but of many gears of various sizes... some wheels, some dainty arms that sway and click like intermittent crickets. there would a cacophony of sounds that would emit such a random tone that there would be a perfect chaotic rhythm not unlike that of the waves and tides of the ocean. |

| no iactually didn't mean for that... when i edited down the song on the hd recorder, those last few bars snuck into the end. impatient final edits. i don't mind it though, it is kinda like one of those infinite loops that people would add to their vinyl tracks. | |

| i am a huge fan of harold budd... one of eno's biggest collaborators. harold budd had an amazingly light and simple approach to piano that i have a very huge affinity for. which brings me to a curious coincidence... harold budd and i were both born in the mojave desert harold budd. |

| got a new coupla toys for xMas... a iControl (which is great when it works) and an m-Audio O2. i like the icontrol, but it is finicky and probably will be returned. when i get playing on a real keyboard (not the keyboard i type with,) i can settle in and have some fun. i am going to have to remix this one though... distortion on the keyboards. a little too lout overall as well. this one is tricky to mix down, any suggestions? happy new year to you adn yours as well iiwii... lol! |

![]() really a top rate sound... sounds excellent at very low volumes! it is a textural romp as opposed to a clever tune, it is the journey not the destination for this one. my only concern is the abruptness of the start (so technically 9.99/ 10). a very nice groove. |

![]() there is something to be said for drone... although eno would layer drones to bring out more colorful differences, the fact remains that there is a repetition there. i like the idea of an underlying, repeating drone. the pad replaces the repetitive beat in this instance... a paradigm shif. tis definitely a good work. i would like to use this on the compilation. |

| Six Moons Of Pluto by RobAstor | 2 years ago |
![]() a rare delight to hear truly ambient music in the spirit of eno et al. though it sounds simplistic, this style of music depends heavily on the producer's ability to feel in time frames much slower than those traditionally associated with music. the part's are all there, part a part b bridge repeat with a fancy ending... just played in a time more readily understood by trees than humans. i love this stuff! |

| thanks for the feedback. i guess the track is pretty rhythmically driven. i am working on a vocal version with itisiwotitis, and before that goes up i will play with a better synth lead. i like that you actually gave a critique... that means a lot. and i agree there are few things in musical life better than dNb, glad you liked the line... | |

![]() so much that works, here... it really inspires me to get back to my more ambient roots... as i have digressed to a more dnb flavored mood lately. it is hard to pin down the best aspect here, maybe the banjo, maybe the whirring, maybe the tastefully distorted bass.... **** i don't know, i just like it. |

| troubled times by djLorax | 2 years ago |
| the syncopy is frenetic yes, and maybe out of sync on the overlaying synths but in a jazzy, improv sorta way. i appreciate that you noticed the IBM like quality... i was going for the early commodore 64 sound (of which i have mine... my first computer ever stil with the original box). i am glad you liked it. i like to make songs from time to time with those nice andd fat d n b bass lines... check out Shadow of Love if you liked this one. Since it was done straight in the mac, it has a more full sound. troubled times was output from a boss hd recording device which has some quality issues with ouput. |

| shadow of love by djLorax | 2 years ago |
| thanks for the comment... i was doing the pan drum transitions as an experiment, and i think it works well. i drum, can help you create some fantastic drum parts, so weaving them around is ultra slick. just download the trial version and read the help guide... it is fairly intuitive. i try to pay close attention to note velocity and length. then when the layers interact i make sure total volume doesn't peak too high. making little adjustments to the different parts to let the important stuff out. not always easy, and i am always struggling with it. i am not so good at final mixdown stuff. the concept was exactly stream of consciousness... written over the last couple a days while dealing with life and love. thanks again for the comments. |
