Carla -- I meant to also say that it would be great to collaborate some time!

Carla -- Thanks for tuning in, once again -- I have been enjoying the guitar -- I came up with a tuning that I really like (DADADA) -- actually have it tuned down a half step from those note -- spans two octaves (it is hard on the upper strings, as they are almost an octave above the standard tuning) -- very resonant and nice for making chords simply using the lower two (or three) strings.

Steve -- Thanks for the comment -- much appreciated.

De Wind (the wind) by MakenaMonk 2 years ago

Djev,

The song is fantastically beautiful and moving -- I can't get enough of it. It has a wonderful timeless quality and depth. I love the transition in the rhyme scheme and tempo that happens in the verse that starts with "Maar wandelen op de dijk...". I also find the earlier line which translates to "Sometimes he blows and he shrieks and cracks my floor" haunting and powerful. It is wonderful the way the song begins and ends with the wind blowing through your lips. You have miraculously succeeded in capturing the elusive beauty and untamed power of the wind...I am blown away.

This is so beautiful and deep...it sounds like it is coming right from your inner self...with no filter to distort your radiance...just like the undulating jellyfish cloud in your picture (and video).

What a beautiful other worldly and yet also very down to earth song and tribute -- I love the ukulele (is that right?) and the sampled sounds and music box too.

Djev,
I am glad I found your iComp home. Your voice is very interesting and nice to listen to. (Carla recently got me into iComp, and of course, I have heard many good things about you from her, so I am glad to make this direct contact).

Soundhound: I appreciate your comments and comparisons to Dr. John -- that's cool -- thank you.

Carla: I do tend to go into a somewhat of a meditative state when I am singing sometimes, and the length of the songs kind of goes with that. But I think there is also a danger of going on longer than needed in order to get to the point. Like Lincoln's Gettysburg address which was so short that it was largely ignored as insignificant for several decades before the depth of it finally sank in.

Another fantastic tune -- I love your taste and beautiful delivery.

B: After reading Carla's comment, I thought that I should have been more clear about the fact that my last comment to you was not meant to be sarcastic -- I really do love your raspy tone and appreciate your comments.

KC: Thanks for tuning in and the kind comments -- much appreciated.

Morgan102: Thank for the comment, although I am not sure what I think about being "the guy that sounds like Randy Newman" -- but maybe that is just the way it is.

Carla: thanks for your comment, it made me aware that my previous comment to B should have been clearer -- and THANK YOU again for getting started with iComp -- this is such a nice musical community to be part of.

Beautiful classic -- sounds like it was written for the two of you -- the first time Dani comes in it really goes to another level.

I keep coming back to that second song -- R&B is a great genre for your voice -- I especially like the rhythmic cadence of the lyrics in the three short verses that follow "Everlasting butterflies".

Is it just me or has the iComp software changed so that you can't replay parts of a song without listening to the whole thing?

You should re-post the second song as a stand alone!

B: my raspy tone doesn't hold a candle to yours -- thanks for the warm welcome -- Randy Newman...hum...I can see that.

R: Yes, I play and sing at the same time (that's the only way I know how to do it actually) -- I really appreciate your comments, and thanks for tuning in.

As I am new to iComp and I don't know most of you yet, I want to thank all of you together for your kind comments and encouragement. I will keep putting up more songs from the album that this one came from every week or so (in addition to the title track "Away" that I have already posted). I would be happy to hear constructive criticism and suggestions for improvement, and of course it is also always very nice to know you have enjoyed listening. THANK YOU!

This is very cool. The sample at the end is great to hear after the ear has been "trained" by leading track.

Hauntingly beautiful track -- I particularly like the plucked melody and the dynamic range of textures -- could go all sorts of places with this.

Soundbound, Jamsborochda, and Carla,

Thanks for the encouragement! I look forward to doing more listening and uploading, but other duties call (I can't let myself get too into this right now, as much as I would love to).

What I meant was that your second song has a fantastic synergy -- the parts are great and their sum takes it to a whole new level. It reminds me a bit of an accidental musical experience I had years ago while listening to a car radio in the middle east, when I came to a station that was playing something that combined a classical western orchestral piece with a rhythmic middle eastern song -- the two came together to create a really cool integrated whole, as the two parts wove around each other beautifully. The crazy thing is that, just as I was wondering how I could find out who came up with this fantastic concept, I fine tuned the radio and realized that I had happened to land on a spot that superposed two different stations.

Beautiful...the juxtaposition in the second song is transcendent...above and beyond.

This sounds so good that it is scary. The bass line sounds like a skipping heartbeat. The silence of the victim is hard to listen to.
