Biography
It's been about, oh, 16 years or so since I last recorded anything (then it was a surf-punk song called "I Wanna Be A Lifeguard") - Since then I have branched out a little in terms of musical tastes, and now listen to just about anything.
It was a couple of years ago that I first took an interest in what was called "alt country" - whatever that means. All I know is that my father-in-law, Ernie forced me to listen, and some of it I really liked, mostly for the attitude. To me, it was the "punk" of the country world - a world that once meant only crap like Shania Twain and Garth Brooks... Fred Eaglesmith, Ray Wylie Hubbard, and James McMurtry proved to be great models for just what can be done with a country chord progression and a huge chip on the shoulder. I guess not all country artists forgot about Johnny Cash!
In any event, I bumped into my friend Armin (aheurich on iCompositions) and we began playing together. He in turn introduced me to Garage Band. Now, about 6 months later, we are still at it, about to start gigging and recording some stuff, and having a great time doing it. Technology is truly a wonderful thing, and to have that outlet is a blessing. I look forward to many recording sessions - be they alt country, roots rock, punk, or whatever. I just know that I'm having fun. iCompositions seems to be full of people like me, doing it all for the love of the music. Does it get any better?
