Biography
I recall banging on the family piano before I could walk. My brother used to sit me in front of his guitar amp when his band practiced in the basement, and I would groove away to The Cream, Deep Purple and Hendrix. My sister used to sing Carly Simon songs with me, and another brother introduced me to The Beatles. I used to listen to my parents' classical records upstairs. My musical background was, in a word, eclectic.
Perhaps this blend of classical and rock, pop and alternative, led me to learn piano, violin and drums. While I did study music theory and composition while concertmaster of my middle school, and later, high school, piano and drums were more passionate and less academic pursuits. My parents insisted I take piano lessons, and when I discovered a teacher who just happened to have a recording studio in his house... well, let's just say my parents remained blissfully ignorant that they inadvertently paid for my introduction to audio engineering and MIDI recording.
I began writing songs in high school. Thankfully I had patient and supportive friends to encourage me. I continued to hone my skills, both technical and creative.
I opened The Odyssey Studio in 1998 with one keyboard, one condenser mic and preamp, a pair of bookshelf stereo speakers, and an Apple G3. My first victims, uh, I mean, "clients," were friends and former band mates. I tended toward projects that allowed me to help write and arrange the songs, play drums and keyboard, and sing. I almost couldn't believe anyone would pay me to have this much fun! But enough of them did for me to continue to expand until in 2004 I moved the studio to a larger space where it currently resides.
I continue to write, record and produce music with a wide variety of artists and bands from all over the US and beyond.
