| Thanks. It would be nice if George Noori heard my music and used it as bumper music on Coast to Coast am. The same with Adult Swim, or IFC, anywhere anybody uses ten to thirty seconds of incidental music. I think my music would be good for that. It could lend itself to ring tones, cartoons and film, too. I appreciate your comments, especially on the sound. I've been working very hard trying to get a good overall sound. It's definitely a learn as you go kind of process. Thanks again! |

| Thanks! The main part took me a long time, but adding the guitar was well worth the wait. I think bluegrass and flying saucer music are a perfect fit. The title comes from a story I heard on Coast to Coast am. Thanks for listening! mason |

| Thanks. I really appreciate your comments. I went back and forth on the fuzzy guitar. In the the end, I decided to include it, in keeping with the spirit of the impromptu, I chose the moment over the music. Even so, I wound up trying to mix it further back. Remembering what I did and why, has given me all kinds of ideas. Thanks again for the positive feedback. mason |

| Thank you. I like this quirky tune. I thought I did a good job with the breaks and the use of minimal guitar. To me, this kind of music sounds like jazz mixed with trance. Thanks for listening, mason |

| Thanks. These are all loops. I've added all the free downloads from iComp to my library. So, some of the sounds in this piece might very well be from here, and not just GB. I approach this kind of music the same way I approach my fine art. My fine art is the complete opposite of my commercial art. Commercial art is always about "something" and has to be made a certain way, it's all about other people;-- the boss, the client, the client's customers, the printer... details and more details. So, when I get a chance to paint for myself, I head straight back to my first true love, a kind of painting I like to call psychedelic camouflage. I start blank and just go. The minute it starts to look like something I change direction. I add and subtract, turning the canvas 'til, I reach a point where there's nothing more I can add or take away. The finished piece is something that looks like something but is intentionally nothing. Realistic looking but totally unreal. I love it when people look at it and try to find something in it. But, the end result is no happy accident. It starts out DaDa, but it quickly becomes abstract surreal. I sculpt as go. Working and reworking the same way as Pollack or Moore. I create electronica in the same way, I scan for loops, throw them in, chop them up, keep a beat here, delete some there, back and forth, 'til I feel like I can't add or delete anymore. I use to airbrush tee shirts exactly the same way. That's where I came up the term psychedelic camouflage. One of the greatest compliments I ever got, was when a friend told me his shirt had been stolen from the laundromat! |

| I know what you mean. They added some nice preset synths to the Orchestra JamPack, but my ear has already started getting "tired" of them. I did discover something cool about the editor, though;-- You can use any of the software instruments (especially the synths) as a starting place and mold them into something completely different. I'm still learning, but in time, I hope to get something close to those really cool sounds you've been posting using Reason. Thanks for listening and commenting. |

| Thank you! That "wow" is exactly what I was going after. I just played this for a friend and he had the same reaction. His exact quote, "Man, this is some heavy sh*t!" I'd like to try my hand at making background music for movies. Thanks again, mason |

| 05 The Redstone Overture by electrosketch | 6 years ago |
| Thanks. The bass is a midi file I created with a songwriting app called EasyBeat. It was originally voiced as an acoustic guitar for a song I wrote called, Redstone Dream. After I dragged it into GB, I revoiced it with a bass from the software instrument library. I keyboarded the rest using synths and software instruments from Apple's Orchestra JamPack4. I agree, the bass is really thick. I was trying to make it sound as big as possible and still have it support the really deep snyth voice. If I come back to this one, I'll definitely try your suggestion. Thanks again, mason |

| 01 Overture by electrosketch | 6 years ago |
| Thanks! I'd have to say this one is probably my favorite of all these short little pieces. I gave them numbers because I couldn't think of what to call them. With seven being the exception, they're really not tunes. I think of them as etudes. | |
| 07 Incidental Music by electrosketch | 6 years ago |
| I think you're right. The synth doesn't blend very well. The next time I try this, I'm going to start with the guitar as the first track and use the synth for support instead of the other way around. Thanks for the comment! |

| There are very few hard and fast rules when it comes to art. It's all subjective. That being said... Listen back to this, and starting from the beginning, count slowly. Every 4, 8, 12 or even 13 counts (the intervals are what's important, not the distance between them) you should introduce or re-introduce something that will keep the listener's interest. In this crazy five second sound byte world we live in, you only have a few seconds to catch someone attention. Here's a good exercise: watch some TV, a movie or a music video, and count. Notice how the cuts are not very long, shorter than we think if we weren't counting. Try this with music, too. Notice how quickly things change. Even, with this kind of music, say Tangerine Dream, if you listen closely, there's stuff happening at different intervals (even if not regular, the intervals are there.) Phillip Glass sounds repetitive, but he really isn't. Even when he drones, he's changing it up ever so slightly. Just my two cents. I just listened again, and you are using intervals, but they are very, very subtle. I suppose that one very long interval toward the beginning is what stayed with me the most from the first listen. See, I don't really know anymore than the next guy. |

| I'll Be Back Again by WRG | 6 years ago |
![]() Please don't think I'm being mean, but you should go outside (or down in the basement, if you have neighbors) and scream as loud and hard as you can. Not from the throat, but deep down from the gut. Do it 'til you get tired, then sing this song again, and when you get to the chorus, remember that energy you had when you were yelling. I'm not saying scream or yell when you sing (that's just an exercise) but to recall that intensity when you sing. I think if you do this, you will convince people that your really coming back again. I think this is a great song and it deserves the most intense delivery you can muster. |

| May Meets July by MuffledMindset | 6 years ago |
| I saw your request in the chat window. I'm no pro, and with that being said, here's my two cents. To my ear this has a cool African folk sound. For the repetitive piano part that's about a third of the way in, I would use a Kenyan harp sound and have it play throughout. I would also use a fretless bass and ceramic drum, both spliced to fit your composition. And, last but not least, I would introduce the cool electric piano riffing that's toward the end, much sooner and let it be the focus for the whole thing. You don't need that hammer over the head at the beginning. (It had me reaching for the volume.) Instead, intro using one or two of the instruments that make up the composition. For example, a couple of measures of bass and drum to help lay a foundation. Like I said, just my two cents. | |
