Thanks, Dirigent! I used the Mixcraft 5 instruments, with the Magnus Choir at the end.

What program did you use?
EWQLSO Silver. smiley Thanks!
This Land (Lion king cover reprise) by elfdaughter 1 year ago
Yip, all Mixcraft with Magnus. I sometimes substitute DAL flute for AM's flute, but only if it's a solo - DAL just gives a little more control.

That would be me! smiley

Hmm, I've not heard of Edirol before. Have you tried using the ones that came with AM? While the percussion is great in this, I think AM has better strings, wind, brass and piano. The only thing I stretched out for was Magnus Choir (AM's is a bit stilted) and DAL Flute (Although AM's is good, DAL just gives a bit more control.)

Ooooh - powerful! Really beautiful piece - has a bit of a Vangelis quality to it, I think. This calls to mind a beautiful sunrise, full of rich reds and golds. It's a really full, rich and beautiful piece of orchestration. Well done!
Hymn for the Close by byHeart 2 years ago
Really beautiful beginning. Peaceful, quiet, noble. The chords seem to end a little abruptly, though, I'd prefer to hear them fade out. As the song progresses and the chords get more complex, there are some really powerful and beautiful chord choices made. I'd like to hear it all a little louder in the mix, though, I had to turn my speakers right up. Some instruments do end a little abrubtly - maybe up the reverb on those ones so they fade a little more? (Mainly the choir - it seems to fade out at the end of a note, but then cuts off)

Very nice piece, though!

I LOVE this carol - beautiful rendition of it! Really nice contemporary feel - has an almost jazz-like quality to it. It's a real chill-out song. Well done!

Thanks, guys. Soulima- yip. I find that really hard to do with EWQLSO, don't know why. Hopefully I can fix that with my new software. Which should *crosses fingers* be here later today. I hope.

OK, since you commented on my version, I had to come listen to yours - and boy, am I glad I did - I LOVE this version. It's close enough to the original to be able to tell what it is, and yet SO different that it stands on its own as amazingly creative piece!

Nice use of loops. It's not a genre I usually listen to, but it held my interest all the way through, though it did get a little repetitive. The ending seemed rather abrupt, as well. 4/5 stars, mainly because of the repetition and the ending.

A long season indeed, but it can go in a flash when listening to this sort of music. Very nice work - captured the mood of the season perfectly.

Beautiful. That flute (or piccolo?) is lovely. Though the first part does sound a little like 'Minstrel Boy' with just a few tweaks to the melody....

Awesome vocals, and fantastic performance of one of my favourite Jackson songs.
Tears Of Blood (Virgin Mary edition) by Beholder 3 years ago

Beautiful, and melancholy. I love the children's laughter, and the dripping water, which could be so much - Mary's tears, the blood from His wounds, the tears of God as he sees his son on the cross or as the title suggests, the tears of blood.

Such beautiful piano playing, it's hard to think of it as purely loops. I also love the effect on the piano near the end, that sort of echo which almost echoes the drops of water. Stunning, stunning work. Full five stars.
Ride of the Rohirrim by elfdaughter 5 years ago
Thanks everyone! Yeah, you guys are right, it does need a better ending.

Vegastribe - certaintly! I'll note you as well, in case you don't check back here, but for anyone else that's curious, I use Magix's film soundpool loops. They have a fantastic range, and pretty cheap prices - £2.49 (on average) for about 180 loops. God knows how many loops I have now, but I have about 20-30 of these packs.

Ah, now this is better. Loving the loop mix. Piano seems to come in a bit hard, but everything else is blended well. Love those loops. Very creative mix.

Concept: 5 - excellent idea.
Creativity: 5 - brilliant song
Performance: 5 - really well mixed.
Production: 5 - just great!

OK, I can hear it now! No idea what was going on before....

Right. The um...bells (?) at the beginning are a little strange, and detract from the gorgeous midi-string/choir piece you then go into. I like the breath choir under the strings (tell me if I'm wrong with the midis, this is just what it sounds like you've used to me!) It could perhaps do with being worked on a little so the beginning is a little tighter, but then you find your rythm...and then those bells come in again! The bells would have been OK, but not with the bend on them! Also the volume of the whole piece needs upping by a couple of decibels - I found myself leaning in towards the speakers to try to catch the quieter aspects - and the bells, which are louder, came out far too strong. All in all, a good idea.

Ratings:
Concept:5. It's a good piece.
Creativity: 5. For the same reason as above.
Performance: 4. Would have been 5, were it not for the bend on those bells.
Production: 3. FAR too quiet, and the bells far too high in the mix. If you want to keep the bend on the bells, then drop them below the melody line.

"Not waving, but drowning"?

This is the first time I've listened to your work, and as soon as your voice came out of my speakers, it knocked me flat. (Metaphorically speaking....) Love the harmonies in the chorus. And that guitar playing is beautiful. The tempo and pace change is excellent, and well-thought out. And the lyrics are just...well....fantastic. I don't think there's much more to say, except it's a definate favourite, and I'll be watching you from now on! I'd love to see the lyrics up there though....yes, I'm sad, I like to sing along once I've heard a track and decide I like it!

March of the Ents by elfdaughter 6 years ago
Oh, yeah, I'm well aware of the need for a better mic.... and FINALLY got the money together for one! (I hate being a student.... *sighs*)

One thing you have to understand with my work - nearly all of it is improvised, which may account for the lack of ending. But thanks, and I'll work on it!
Song of the Sea by alfalpha 6 years ago
The lyrics are:

Steep is the valley - it falls away,
Suddenly I see the bay,
Where white horses crash and rear,
The baying of the gulls draw near.
And here I stand, the wind in my hair,
looking over this land so fair.
But my heart towards the deep is drawn,
I feel the pull of Ulmo's horn.
My cloak billows, my hair flows free,
I hear the rising of the Sea.

Hope that helps....

Ah, Bregalad's Song!! I like this version, but I would have liked to have heard the instrumentals a little quieter, and your voice more! (Yeah, like I'm one to talk... *rolls eyes*) Hmm, I thnik I'd like to do a version of Bregalad's song, but possibly...a bit slower. As the Ents are slow beings anyway, I think the sort of rocky/bluesy doesn't quite fit... I like the way you skipped the elvish, it wouldn;t have fitted in this version. I do like this, it's deifferent ot the normal folksy/celtic approach...
