| i have to confess... these are the reference vocals and when i went to re-track them i had gotten a bad cold so i ended up using autotune to fix them and never got around to re-tracking them properly with the background harmonies... so instead i added some distortion via compression to get them to sound "more rock"... i promise i'll redo them soon since i think the harmony parts will take it up a notch... | |

yes, the organ parts are somewhat discordant but the whole piece is actually composed to present a set of differences - organ vs drums vs melody vs vibraphones (which provide the counter to the discord of the organ). it really started life as a blues song but after putting in the electronics and the repetitions, it became very much more a new age song - something akin to "storms in africa" but not...  the bass drum became the heartbeat and since this is a song about the directionless search for a path away from the domestic violence, the organ provides the discord and anxiety, the vibraphone becomes the "pied piper" and the guitar, just adds some funk because i am incapable of not adding something funky  |

| having served myself, i can say that people who complain about the low pay or lack of benefits forget we're not a mercenary force, we're a volunteer force. we do it just for our love of country and will exchange our lives simply to be buried with our comrades in arlington, or even home. and we forget how just being a good parent or example in our community is worthy of the sacrifice needed to help our children grow. there are many things people must remember but the most important is that to be free, you must act free. expecting the government to give you freedon is crazy talk. if you act free, you are free. but that does not give you the right to take that away from someone else through violence or hate speech. even without laws and enforcement, wrong is wrong. what you do when no one is watching is what truly defines who you are. peace. |

| thanks for the feedback, its all good! yes the vox sound different than when i sing it with just my guitar and they had this dreamy somber weirdness to then in the recording so i didn't re-track them... in fact, playing it by itself its somewhat upbeat, but when i put in the drum track (MIDI) and played the rest of it (guitars, bass, keys, vox) it was more, slow or something... but I left it... I should probably re-mix it a bit to brighten it somewhat... glad you liked the solo, yes i played it. |

| thnx! actually I deliberately buried the lyrics because while the feel of the words work, the actual words themselves only make sense as a country song... don't ask... it is a happy dub song though... | |
