Biography
I was born in Oakland in 1950 and had quite an active musical childhood starting with the violin at age four. By age fourteen, I was playing bass guitar, rhythm guitar, piano and organ. When I was sixteen, I joined the Musicians' Union Local #6 and was doing local gigs (many junior proms and senior balls). I went on to complete three music degrees including a master's in Music Theory at the University of Southern California. In 1976-77, I studied privately with the legendary Nadia Boulanger in Paris. Today, I am probably best known for my many educational piano solos and arrangements marketed by the Alfred Publishing Co. Occassionally my music is used on television, radio, and in movies. (Oh yes, I was "famous" for about 15 minutes in the mid-1990s when Olympic gold-medal figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi was performing to my music live and in widely viewed telecasts on ABC and CBS).
