| not that it matters, but what is the instrument here? Is this a a mandolin or a harp or what? |

| I like the vocal and the lyric, but this track could benefit from some really open McCoy Tyner type of chords on the piano patch. It doesn't have to be fancy--maybe a two-chord vamp. Think of the chords on the Coltrane rendition of "My Favorite Things." Not those chords specifically, but something like that. |

| Thanks. I struggled with the vocals on an earlier version of this song and so I left it alone for a bit, then sort of spontaneously improvised a completely new melody, which seemed to refresh the whole track. Sometimes a song needs to be broken and put back together. | |

Don't worry, gregbaird, I have plenty of depressing material. ![]() This song is less about how I feel about my brother and more about how I wished he felt about me. |

| It's a hard one for me to sing...especially the verse where it jumps from E up to D. Don't know why, but that one particular interval psyches me out. Glad you liked the song. I had fun doing it. Good thing I don't have to sing it acapella for Simon, Randy and Paula. I'd be straight out the door before I hit the one minute mark. ![]() |

Jay...well, the band was quite relaxed...they were reading out of a Fake Book ...this was basically a head chart thrown together at the last minute that turned out pretty well. We played several more standards that night, but alas, this was the only one that got survived due to some sort of technical problems with the laptop it was being recorded on... |

| feenix--I'm glad you like it. In my mind, this song expresses the longings of a somewhat comic (but nevertheless sympathetic) Italian laborer. He sings it as he works hauling stones from the quarry in his horse-drawn cart. He's dreaming of his wedding day..... It's written from a perspective that differs from my own, yet it's still a serious song. I will gladly admit that I love a lot of comic pieces in films, musicals and operas...it's a bygone era, for the most part. Nowadays the producer just goes out and gets the rights to yet another over-exposed classic rock tune and slaps a montage together...When was the last time that a song actually commissioned for a film became a hit in it's own right? There needs to be a "musical/film" category in iComp.... I've got about 10 or songs written specifically for the stage, yet I don't have a story that ties them all together... |

| The vocals are very good. I think a drier sound would bring them up to the front of the mix and make the song even better. |

| sorry...added a warning about the ending. this is one I'll try to finish. It has a whole middle section that I need to figure out on piano. |

| Modesto66:I am honored by your comments and honest ratings, because I've listened and liked your work. There's so much music on iComp it's overwhelming...but your stuff drew me in. I only get a limited amount of time in my schedule to work on music anymore, so I haven't spent enough time on iComp yet. Barcelona. My wife has some friends there. I've never been to Europe, although I hope to make it before oil prices and the weak dollar make it impossible for all but the rich to travel.... ![]() I have written only two or three Latin-type tunes. Although I'm embarassingly monolingual, I want to record in other languages. The little smatterings of Spanish and Italian in some of my songs could probably use work. I thought about posting different genres under different aliases, but it's just too much to keep track of, so I'll remain Gil_Veces. Once again, thanks for the constructive comments. ¡Buena suerte en Barcelonna! |

| Thanks Modesto66. This one was recorded in the crudest fashion possible....I monitored through the speakers of the computer as I recorded it...I did it in the Mac lab at the school where I work...the Mac was defective and the fans were ramped up to full speed, so that's why you hear that continuous background sound. It reminded me of the sea, so I kept the track. I have another version of this with the actual lyrics plus a piano that's considerably cleaner. I do have a Rode NT1A condenser and a Presonus firebox, and it's very quiet, but I often prefer the built-in Mic for it's cutting quality. I'm not much of a sound engineer when it comes to my own stuff... |
