![]() Ah, prog, sweet prog. I'm also hearing a strong Rush/Yes/Genesis vibe. Thank you for the pleasant surprise. Please check out my music. It's also very prog-inspired, and I am seeking collaborators. ![]() |

![]() Ah, sweet, delicious Prog. Gotta love it. It just needs to be 10 minutes longer and change meters every 5 seconds. |

| New Vocals (cover song) by ant1v1ru5 | 1 year ago |
![]() Sounds like you just recorded your own vocals over someone else's live performance. Correct me if I'm wrong. If so, that's not a "cover." It's technically called a "ripoff." As for your vocals, they can't be easily discerned, so I'm abstaining from commenting. Please don't take this personally. I really don't like leaving bad feedback. |

| I'll leave the instrumental version up for you guys, but the song was written with room for vocals, so I've gotta at lease try to fulfill my "grand vision." (right) Anywy, thanks for the input. | |

![]() Octaves and parallel harmony. Nice. And minimalism is by no means an easy thing to pull off. On a seperate note, I'd be willing to collaborate. First, I think I cold pollish this song up a bit if you let me try mixing it. Also, if you need a guitar track, let me know. |

Hey, man... Thanks for the advice. I actually just tried speeding it up to hear what you're thinking. I really do appreciate your opinion, but I'm gonna have to disagree. Personally I'm going for something that, for lack of a better term, "breaths." Speeding it up takes that away. If anything, I think I'm going too fast for the mood I'm going for. So I think that boils down to personal preference. I kind of agree about the repetitiveness. My hope is that when it has real drums and some lyrics, it will take care of that. Keep in mind, it's unfinished. |

| Untitled Ballad (work in progress) by guitarlesson | 2 years ago |
| Gideon, I totaly, TOTALLY agree about the real drums. Alas... sadly drum recording is out of my means. When the song is finished, I hope to find a drum willing to redo them entirely. If you know anyone willing, shoot him/her my way. | |

![]() I think this has a real Alice in Chains vibe... except with whammy dives and tapping. The intro reminds me of "Rain When I Die." And yeah... heard Steve in there too. Nice. |

| Thanks for updating the lable to explicit. And don't take it personally. Negative feedback can be positive if you take it constructively. I didn't rate this song because I recognize that my musical bias doesn't qualify me as a judge... As for the beat and the rhyme, it sounds to me up to par with other rap I've heard, but I don't care about beats or rhymes... I care about harmony and melody. As such, the harmonic contents (i.e. the synth and piano) seem to clash in a way that is unintentional. So that no one acuses me of "not getting it," I'll explain in objective musical terms. The song begins with a synth playing a C major arpegio twice, and the C minor arpegio twice. The piano comes in playing a C major chord while the the synth is still playing C minor. This means that the E in major is clashing with the Eb in minor. Now, it is possible that this clash is intentional, as is often the case with minor/major 3rds in blues and jazz, but if so, it is not executed in a way that sounds convincingly intended. I don't want to merely hand out idle criticism though, so if you want, send the file to me, or any trained musician, and I'll adjust the Eb to match the E, or vice versa. That should tighten it up. Or, if you'd like to learn more about music theory, I can point you in some good directions. |

| Shouldn't this have an explicit lyrics warning? As a musician, I should tell you the key of the synth and piano don't match... but since my musical tastes do not particularly include rap, I abstain from rating this song. | |

![]() Suggestions: The guitars sound out of toon to me. Vocals and percusion are too loud. |

![]() No, my friend... Alex, Niel and Geddy this is not. And since the guitars sound sythesized (a carnal sin in my book) I detract from "Performance." |

![]() You really made a convincing backing track. Every note of the bass, percussion, etc. is really really close to the Satch version. And you've got a good start on the performance... Like any Satriani song, it'll probably take about 1000 times to really nail it. I know this song took me forever. On a side note, I was once a guitar teacher, and a lot of my students found a program called "The Amazing Slowdowner" really helpful for learning tough songs where precision is key. It works on Mac (Intel or PPC) or a Windows PC You can find it at http://www.ronimusic.com |

| Naz,Duly noted. I actualy wish people would be more critical. Back when this website was started, I was scrutinized a lot more, and I apreciate that because it gets me playing and writing at a higher level.I suppose I have a hard time with the ratings on this site nowadays. It seems like everyone gets all 5's. Then I listen to it and think "this is mediocre at best." It's like the Un-Game, where everone wins. Lame.Anyway, I appreciate the fact that you judge my music based on it's merits and not what you think of me as a person. That takes maturity.Travis | |

| I was gonna give this all 3 stars because the bass line clashes at times with the melody... but it took me about 3 or 4 listens understand what you were going for. You're repeating a simple sequence in every instrument, but at different rates. Right? (Root-5th-2nd-4th-6th-3rd- | |

| Thanks for the input! The Reverb is actually part of the loop, though I added a ton of reverb to the last note in a vain attempt to sustain the note out without the proper time stretching and pitch shifting plugs. Is it that reverb, or the reverb in the loop thart you are refering to? | |
| Somewhere East by guitarlesson | 4 years ago |
| Thanks Slim. I'm playing all the guitar parts. The bass, synth and strings are MIDI and the rest are chopped up loops. I'm still brushing up a few things, but I'm glad you liked it. Oh, and Skinny_p, Yanni sounds like this? (I've actually never listeneed to Yanni.) I hope not because everybody's always ragging on how he sucks. I would cite Steve Vai's "Bangkok" on the album Fire Garden as an influence for this piece. My solo style is heavily influenced by Joe Satriani, who's boot's I'd gladly kiss. Oh, and I can't forget Dream Theater! ![]() |
