About Gunk
Gunk is Randy Wentzel. I started playing and simultaneously recording on my computer using N-Track around 1999. My really early stuff consisted of very simple keyboard melodies accompanied with little guitar bits. I was hooked on recording (in some ways more than playing), and immediately started adding rough vocal tracks using a little stick-on computer mic that wasn’t worth the plastic it was made from. You can hear my earliest song here; just click on the song named G.U.N.K.
Sometime around 2002, my brother and fellow iComp nut (theGranz) gave me a long horned bass guitar and I’ve been using it ever since. I might have stopped playing if it weren’t for that beat up old bass, as I really felt much more comfortable with the bass than I did with the guitar at the time.
With the bass my music switched directions and I started making many more synth, bass and vocal centric songs. I also replaced my old synth with a late 70’s ARP Quartet analog synth (that Matt also gave me). I was starting to get frustrated with N-Track around this time, and I almost stopped making music again, and I was in desperate need of better recording software.
I’m always looking to collaborate, so just message me if you’re interested! I can also be found on MySpace at http://profile.myspace.com/gunkmusic
