Biography
I'm David Schulman, a Los Angeles based multi-media artist who originally studied film at Northwestern University. At 42, I'm not the director that I thought I would be but I've concluded that I am the artist that I want to be. My passion besides film is photography. I've shown in a number of gallery shows and competitions--some of which I won. Besides photography I do collage and assemblage constructions. Now, since playing with GarageBand, I am starting to play with music constructions. I never considered myself proficient in music and I guess the jury is still out -- hey I failed junior high piano. That being said I do appreciate an eclectic mix of music and its influence is felt in these compositions. I think the compositions are affected by my professional work as a film and television editor. As an editor you have to be conscious of pacing, emotion, contrast, and rhythm.
My alias name iZENstein pays homage to the famous Russian film maker Sergei Eisenstein who placed montage at the top of his film/art theory.
