Hi Dave, great song as usual, I really like the acoustic vibe going on with these songs. A rather obvious suggestion from me but I can't help suggesting that some drums in the latter stages of the song would really lift it, something sparse but powerful. Otherwise blinding' choon!. J

The Gift by james.moore 2 years ago
Dave, thanks for your comments, if I was feeling smart I would say that the silence is part of the composition a la John Cage's infamous 4'33" or Frank Zappa's Dead Air. Unfortunately I am not feeling smart, just knackered so the silence was quite obviously a mistake. Oh well.

Dave
A cracking number, commercial and yet original too. Great job of the lyrics too and I love the understated verse compared to the richer, ballsier chorus. The drum loops you have chosen are great but, as you would expect me to say, I think a real drummer could inject a real performance into this piece that was more sensitive to the rest of the instruments. Loved it.

Jay, this is excellent, a nice dirty tone on the guitar but not muddy at all it still cuts through. This piece motors along really well and you have selected drum loops that leave room for the rest of the song to breathe. I love the restrained feel of the clean solo and then the slow build to the end, you are a master of building intensity in your songs. Thanks for sharing. Cheers. James

Dave, this really suits your voice, kind of Thunderesque, great song that could only be enhanced by a really good live drum performance, although the loops really do suit this kind of tune. This is a corker well done.

Others have put it much better than I could but this piece is immense, fabulous production, hugely theatrical but not in a cheesy way, you really have put such style into this piece. I can't describe it but there really is a medieval feel to this song. I love the reverb on the drums, wonderful, thank you so much for sharing. Cheers. James

Hey there sorry to hear you can't play for the time being, judging by this that's a real waste of your obvious talent. I really enjoyed this piece, very restrained use of the different guitar parts. Could easily be used for a film/TV score. I know some people frown on this type of music but there is come fantastic stuff composed for films and TV. Anyway thanks for sharing. Cheers. James

Guys, an utterly stunning piece of work, full of fantastic undertones , wonderfully performed and incredibly mixed. How you kept all that together and kept the parts audible without compromising the power of the piece I will never know. The styles sit really well together, you definitely have a powerhouse trio here. Thank you for posting this. Cheers. James.

Hey there guys, great song, excellent production and superb sounding drums. I really like the slow build through the song, very well crafted. As a drummer myself I just wanted to say Lenny you provided a fantastic drum part. The addition of a live performance really lifts a song I think. Well done to you both. Cheers and thanks for sharing. James.

Number 1 by DaveM 4 years ago
Dave, great song but needs real drums, the loops are dull with no variation. Also the bassline could be improved to give the song more punch in the rhythym section, the bass notes could be more discrete rather than running into each other as much as they do. There are curently two variations to the guitar riff in the chorus section, maybe chucking in another variation or two here and there would add some interest to the track and make it sound more like a live performance. But a great job all round, well done.

I love the original song and I love that the emotion really comes thru in the vocal performance in this interpretation. It's such a beautiful piece but the effects on the original Roger Waters vocal make me wince. The way you sang this sans effects is just excellent and really lets the mood of the song come through. Well done, really enjoyed this.

Hey guys, thanks so much for the comments and observations so far, it's great that you take the time to listen to this stuff. I must admit I can see where AnangaRanga1 is coming from in terms of this not taking off, although this version was never meant to replace the original which is a more complete "song" whereas this is just some noodling about for my own enjoyment. Like jdwyer05 I also enjoy hearing where artists take their songs after the first version, the English band XTC are well known for this and who doesn't love acoustic versions of songs? Perhaps the next version of this tune could be skiffle influenced ; ) Cheers.

Wow, so dark and brooding, really like this a lot. Guys I have to say that this is just stunning, such a sad and moving story, Dave's vocals really lift the emotion of the piece to incredibly high levels. To criticise this would be churlish and the only thing I could even comment on is that a real drum performance would be more sympathetic to the highs and lows of the song. Top notch musicianship in every way but by Dave's vocals are the absolute standout for me.
