achingly beautiful. with the right voice, this is going to be absolutely stunning with vocals. I too really love the sound effects you added, and the pause in the middle to let it all sink in. there is a deceiving simplicity to the song. you left it pretty minimal, which i think only adds to the power. i remember hearing your songs 3 years ago when I first joined iComp, and like all great musicians, you have continually evolved over time. there is a sophistication and restraint evident in this piece that is a definite sign of your maturation as a composer. very beautifully done Tim.

Well, nobody can showcase an artist's voice better than the artist herself. Beautiful song writing, obviously in a register you are comfortable in, giving you the freedom to really use your voice to full advantage.

You did some interesting things with timing and layering in the "chorus" part of Saturated that definitely gave that feeling you were going for, of drowning - it felt like spinning, swirling, not being able to get a solid footing in the sand that is slipping out from under your feet.

Nice choices of synth/organ sounds to compliment your voice. Really great transition into the second piece. It felt totally natural. The choice of the japanese instrument is interesting but I really like it - a cool counterpoint to the easy R&B feel of the song. Very cool.

And lastly, production is first rate. You are a pro, my friend. Thanks for sharing your incredible talents with us.

I've been away too long and have missed too many of your songs. Over the past few months, your voice would suddenly appear in my headphones from my iPod and every time I have to stop and catch my breath. While I absolutely love your grittier (is that a word?) stuff, sigh, I just adore this stripped down showcase of your voice. PinkFreud's guitar work is excellent - a really great acoustic version of a really great song. Dani, you've outdone yourself here. Exceptional background vocals, harmonies and layering - but goodness, girl, those main vocals are just full of raw soul and heart. I am SO glad you decided not to re-record. This is incredible. a beautiful, slow buildup of sound and emotion, layer being added upon layer. as opposed to the other track of yours that I just listened to, this has a feeling of warmth, and wraps itself around me slowly and tightly. excellent use of fades and panning to create a swirling misty listening experience. very nice. thank you!

Very interesting combination of instruments. I would have never thought of it, but it works very well here. This is a very nice piece - moody for sure. The percussion added an interesting counterpoint of texture and rhythm to the smooth sax, harp and piano sounds. I like this a lot. Great work.

Very cool energy and build in the beginning. I really like the contrast between the urban-feeling beats and synths and the strings and piano. I thought this was going to be eerie and suspenseful, but it turned into more of a longing feeling. Very nice - although I would have like it to be longer and with a more deliberate ending! smiley

I agree - nice title! I find naming songs one of the hardest parts of composing. Another beautiful offering. You use choral voices to such great effect in your pieces. Is that a real piano recorded live? At first the reverb on it felt too much, but as the piece grew and as I reflected on the title, it began to feel just perfect, as if the pianist were sitting in a very large hall, lit only by the fluttering flames of a thousand candles. Your music creates beautiful images and evokes strong emotion. Thank you again for sharing it with us.

There is some great dissonance and resolution in this piece - giving it a dark feel, but definitely a movement toward light. Beautiful use of the viola and cello. What I found most compelling about this piece are the small swells in each instrument, the crescendos and decrescendos, really giving the piece some movement and life and emotion. This is gorgeous. This is exceptional work. A very tight, well composed piece full of energy and movement. The percussion work is amazing - what software samples are you using? Excellent use of the staccato strings to help keep the piece moving and create some tension. The choral voices are beautiful and very well placed. Production is top-notch. Very very well done!

Beautiful composition. This has a softness and gentle tenderness to the texture that is very soothing. Perfect for a lullaby. A nice beat that keeps things moving, but isn't overpowering in any way. I saw the word "Lush" and ran to get my headphones for this listen. I'm working on a piece for woodwind quintet and piano right now, so am extremely interested in what you've done here.

Well, first of all let me say I am VERY impressed with the sounds you managed to get with Garageband - and the symphony jampack woodwinds? I think you did an exceptional job with the tools you had.

The composition itself is playful and fun, lovely harmonies and great use of each instrument. You did a very good job of varying who was playing the lead, and making sure that was heard and understood. A couple of the transitions into different moods seemed slightly abrupt to me - not quite as smooth as they could be.

As for "lush" I think overall you did an excellent job. One thing you did VERY well is use the full ranges of the instruments - giving the piece a good variety of highs and lows. I'm a French Horn player, and as you probably know, fhorns are considered a substitute woodwind almost as much as they are considered brass. one idea to add a little more fullness to the piece would be to put horn in, but that might go against the challenge you gave yourself.

i'm all for challenges! i give myself new ones constantly and am surprised and delighted with what I come up with - as you should be here. This is a great piece, very fun and obviously a lot of work. Small ensemble pieces like this, to me, are wonderful puzzles of fitting each piece very carefully in with all the others. There is no hiding here! Great work. I very much look forward to more from you.

Justin! hey I've missed you. this is incredible. I love the percussion, the timpani is awesome. really cool interplay between the piano and the synths in this. great choice of sounds. there are shadows here that are sometimes uncomfortable to be in, but totally worth it. Sorry I'm so late to this one. I LOVE it! Cool industrial sort of feel. You've put together a lot of really great sounds and textures. There's a lot going on in this piece, but it never feels crowded to me. Everything had it's place and was given room to breathe and do it's thing. LIke gossamertread said - mad and disciplined at the same time. There is an organized chaos that is very compelling. Kept my attention and swept me right along with it.

so first of all, the lyrics are just so awesomely clever and fun - and i say that being a total lyric ignorer in most songs. The funk bass is great. love the pop feel to this with the horns and percussion. i love this - especially your choice of emphasis on certain notes. It added an almost percussive quality to the music that really helped move it along. incredible improv. Great job!
