In The Cave by dirigent 2 years ago
This really is beautiful. Are you using sounds from Logic? The woodwind sounds very similar to one of the World Woodwinds. (There really are some gems that come bundled with all the crap).

I thought the drips were too dry sounding - they sort of took me out of the large cave atmosphere. But other than that I really loved the piece. Great work.

This is an awesome rhythmic ride. I will say that I'm listening through my KRK monitors and the bass is drowning out all the wonderful lines you have going on over top.

I haven't talked to you in a while. What have you been up to these days? Still using Notion (I noticed that the application is "unknown" smiley?

Take care,

Sounds familiar?!?!?

Great addition to what was started. I'm very glad we did a collaboration on this one. We will have to do some more soon.

i really liked where this piece went. my only suggestion is to maybe add a tad bit more reverb for the orchestra in beginning, and i almost never say that. its very noticeable at the end of string lines, because they just seem to cut off and it sounds a tad unnatural. nevertheless, very cool idea and well executed. i am assuming that the second half was symphobia? i'd like to buy it myself, but i can't afford it right now.

nicely done.

I really appreciate your kind words. I started this piece just as an ambient soundscape, but then I felt that it really needed more. I just decided to leave it alone for a few days and think of a theme, then it just sort of came to me so I started writing again. I tried really hard to give it a big sound without getting too big with the instruments and I'm really happy with the way it turned out.

John Williams STEALING!!! BLASPHEMY!!!

I'm kidding. He is by far my favorite composer, but yes he "borrows" quite a bit. Thats what you need to do under deadlines i guess. But this is still an incredibly original piece i would say.

You made a cool rendition. Did you download the midi file then render it or enter everything? Either way, great job.

This is great, especially for Garage Band. The theme is excellent - almost a mix of Medieval folk, Harry Potter, and modern orchestral pop music.

Your orchestration was fantastic and I am very impressed with the sounds you were able to achieve with a program like Garage Band. Keep up the great writing.

This sounds really awesome. It reminds me of the theme to Pan's Labyrinth. Great job on the vocals and the recording.

Thanks everyone for listening and leaving comments. I will be sure to post the final product (I've had so much fun writing it that I think I'll finish it)

pharmakeus - I'm am soooo excited to hear you say that. I read lots of Cormac McCarthy and I truly was picturing the old Wild West that he envisions. By the way, can't wait for The Road to come out next month.

dirigent - I'm trying really hard to make this sound real. I know that it will never be played with real live instruments, so I have to bring it to life myself. I know that I still have tons of work to do, but I'm trying!!!

feenix - I think that minimal is key to this mood. The Wild West was a lonely place. Not many people, not much out there but open space, so I think its important to incorporate that into the music.

rochestas - I think I will.

i use GPO, and i'm curious what patch you're using for tremolo? I just posted a cello concerto using all gpo and the garritan solo cello if you're curious about the sound i get from the library. i didn't put any tremolo in there yet, although i imagine i will at some point.

anyway, just give me a bit more information as to what you're looking for and i'll see if i can help.

cool piece by the way.
Something Different by keithjfuller 4 years ago
thanks for listening, but unfortunately i think this is done for me. if anyone ever wanted to use it i could expand, but until then it will remain an idea. its just that it has a "loopy" feel - so it mine be fun to put a guitar solo over, but i don't see much room for expansion. thanks for your comments though.

this was a very fun piece. i don't really now what else to say about it. it reminded me a little of some of the Thomas Newman rhythmic pieces either way i really enjoyed it and you probably enjoyed making it.

this is a beautiful piece. i was going to ask you what sound library you used because it sounded 100% real, then i realized it was!!! anyway, this was very well written and a fun listen. great job on this.
Symphony No. 2 in A Major 'Loss': I. Andante, con passione by Alegoo92 4 years ago
i really liked the way the instruments interacted. the piano then clarinet and flute. they were handing off the melody. this is a great way to repeat what you want but still allowing it to sound fresh. there was a very lush string section also - thats what gave the piece its sense of movement in my opinion. hopefully you will get more of it up soon.
Music for Film (Opening Credits) by soulima 4 years ago
i thought this was a very well done piece. my favorite parts had to be the trill swells ending with the percussive hit. i also really liked the flute and brass interaction. the piece kept its feel throughout but also developed nicely.

i read that you notate everything and don't use a keyboard. that really helps in writing and keeps you from getting musically distracted and just playing in garbage, but i also think it would benefit you in terms of making things sound more real.

the other recommendation is cutting back on the dry in your reverb. all the instruments (other than the brass swells) sounded like they were right up front on the stage.

but other than the mixing i thought the piece was written extremely well, and its obvious that you know what you're doing. great job.
Winter (solo piano) by mbehar 4 years ago
i think this was a really beautiful piece. it was soothing, but contained a good amount of energy all at once. did you notate it or play it in? i only ask because i felt that there were times when the velocities were a bit constant and it was more noticeable on repeated notes. also, i'm not sure what you did in terms of reverb? i see that you used logic pro. did you just use the channel strip reverb or insert one, because this makes a big difference. i would recommend trying space designer and dropping the dry all the way down to zero and slowly move it up until it sounds how you'd like it. this way it will give a more natural sound to the piano.

anyway, with all that being said i really did think it was a wonderful little piece - thats why i'm just offering a few suggestions in terms of the mixing and only the mixing. i thought that writing quality was excellent. i'll be sure to listen to some more of your pieces when i get a chance. great job.
Donna Lee (for Ian) by Munkio 4 years ago
this is a really cool version. as i bass player i've played it a few times, and remember that it was pretty difficult, but you tackled it head on and it sounded great. have you ever heard the wooten/steve bailey rendition? that one blows my mind more than the jaco version.

anyway, it was really cool and i greatly enjoyed it.

The Windmill by georgeptingley 4 years ago
that was a really fun piece there. at first i was thinking, "this isn't my type of music," but after about 15 seconds into it i couldn't stop listening. it had a great ragtime-ish feel to it. this was a great rendition, especially for garage band. did you write the notes in then edit in the piano roll or did you play them? either way, i really liked it.
