Thanks everyone..... for the comments. The drums were manually played from the keyboard..no looping or sequencer but some quantizing. All instruments played from the keyboard)I use a M-Audio Keystation Pro 88 (weighted action)and a Motif ES 6 for it's synth action(pressure senitive keyboard)
Skulgaria by kpenson 1 year ago
The reverb was added during the initial recording (from the Motif) not afterwards. The bulk of the file size can be attributed to the 320kb bit rate at which it was recorded.
Skulgaria by kpenson 1 year ago
The drums were played and quantized from the keyboard using a patch from the Motif.

TG, do you think the reverb is excessive? The file, which was recorded at a 320kb bit rate was originally 92mb in size. The iComposition server compressed it down to 20mb.
Mo Better by kpenson 1 year ago
With the sax I had to bend with the wheel and ribbon controllers and add a volume envelope at the beginning and end of some of the notes. The trumpet was much easier to control which was set to monophonic while the sax was polyphonic.
Mo Better by kpenson 1 year ago
Using the sounds available on the Motif is best I do for now. With all of the slides and bends I suspect the sax is quite a challenge to duplicate with any synthesizer/sampler. Thanks for the tip.
Superstitious by kpenson 1 year ago
Thanks for listening Rob. Most of the time I get caught-up in duplicating too much of the original song rather than adding my own flavor.
River People by kpenson 1 year ago
To Absynth: The original song started in E then ended in F.
All listeners: I was so excited about making this version of River People I forgot about the melody in the begining. Stay tuned for another version. I also have two other original songs that will be released soon. Thank you so much for listening. King

My first instrument was a drum set, which I studied and played for 5 years. I hope to purchase a used set one day soon.

The bass voice is called MidRngFngr. The Motif ES is my favorite keyboard. Roland has better synth sounds though.

This is not the complete song. I'm working on adding the chorus and a new melody. It's wasn't that difficult for me, especially when you can edit the notes with the software.
Silly Putty by kpenson 5 years ago
Thanks to all for your comments. My recording gear is really quite simple. I'm using a PCI sound card from M-Audio, Yamaha 8 channel mixer, and Wavelab software. Back in the 1970's this song was a favorite among all the local funk bands including a band in which I played drums.

Not bad at all. If you are an amatuer, you should submit this song to a satellite radio station that caters to amatuer music. Every time I hear Mr B talk, it reminds me of election day 2004 when I voted against him.

Thanks Bowman, didn't know his dad was a musician. Rhapsody has at least 4 of his albums online for download. Hope you didn't notice the compression induced frequency response degradation. It sounds much better in the WAV file format. Thanks for the comment.

This song is too technical to be classed as funk. It should be in the jazz catagory. Great work, I really like the way you intro and end your songs. King

Mr. Zzyzxx, thanks for the comments on my music. Yes RTF along with several other artists from the 70's - Jeff Lorber Fusion, Lenny White, Corea, DiMeola, Clarke, Cobham, David Sancious, Steve Gadd, J McLaughlin to name a few - provided inspiration for many of my songs.

Thanks, I simply wanted the sound of 2 snares. The quantization was too tight for the bass drum though. Some of the pros use dual snare drums. I think Chambers is a 1 snare guy, but then there's Dave Weckl who plays 2 snares, double bass and dual hi hats.
