Biography
Hi there! My name is Mark Abdon, and I'm a native Hoosier, hailing from Fort Wayne, IN. I now live in Indianapolis, with my wife Laura.
I work with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at Indiana University in Bloomington.
I love Cinnamon Toast Crunch, abstract ideas, the spanish language, and of course great music!
I'm primarily influenced by about 9 different artists that I can currently pick out. Included below are then the artists I admire most and what elements of music I hope to make my own. When these characteristics are honed and distilled and mixed well - I'm hoping to develop my own style as I keep making music.
Sufjan Stevens: Odd time signatures, concept albums, non-traditional topics and lyrics, faith based substance, variety of sounds/instruments used
Coldplay: Wide appeal while maintaining artistry
Enya: Subjective beauty, vocal layering
George Winston: Free-form piano
Iron and Wine: Down to earth, folksy backbone
Hammock: Ambient guitar
Weepies: Honesty, relatability
Sarah McLachlan: Poetic Lyrics
The National: Thick wall of sound, heavy on drums
My hope is to hone my artwork through this site so PLEASE feel free to leave constructive criticism - that's the only way I'll get better!
