| You should post your lyrics! Love the octave vocals there. Great guitar work at the end too! What really really helped me with recording quality overall was investing in a condenser mic. It usually requires phantom power on your mixer (or you can buy it separately for about $20), but recording my guitar with a condenser mic instead of plugging it into the mixer directly was one of the best things I've done to improve the quality of the recording. |

| Love the melody of the treble synth over the 'chorus' - oooh! Love Sabine's slip into minor there in the "It's time" part. Nice touch! Oh man I can hear one more notch 'up' in my head of that chorus - with the melody of the synth one more octave up, the kick drum x1.5 as loud, and moving the root of the chord to the 7th to the minor 3rd... it just got really loud in my head. Great production quality as always! |

| 8 minutes! This track is epic! LOVE the electronic tweakings of the guitar in the section right after the first vox. And the trumpet sounds perfect!! The guitar at the beginning seems oddly in the foreground - whereas everything else has more reverb on it. Other than that - man that was a fun ride! |

| Whoa! Do you ever listen to either David Bazan or Greg Laswell? Your vocals here remind me of either of them! Your lyrics at times are clever and other times sincere - I like both! Careful of the few times that they seem a bit commonplace (if you're into the constructive criticism thing) Thanks for sharing! |

| How It Ends by Sabine | 1 year ago |
| Sabine don't change the piano one bit! LOVE that 'raw' sound and you play it so beautifully!! That was just beautiful! I have only one thought in the 'constructive criticism' realm - and only offer it because this song has SO much going for it - really well done! Okay what if you sang only every other line? I think I would enjoy this song even more if there was time for me to process what you're singing to me. A little more instrumental space in there would give more power to your words I think. The problem, of course, would be that you'd have to choose which lyrics would stay and which would go and if you're anything like me - that's always tough! GREAT work here! |

| I like the way you did your vocals in stereo - and honestly, as ridiculous as the subject matter is - thanks for writing something other than 'the norm'! Seriously though - you will have a much greater audience once you get that sound out of the background! Find a way to get that production quality up because your talent level isn't being done justice by that sound there! |

| Temptation by theTOMTOMS | 1 year ago |
| Great production quality! Love that! You guys work really great together. Man that intro is just SOLID! Agreed with Lagusaya2 - the common rhymes (and the verse lyrics in general) might benefit from finding ways to say the same thing in a way that's slightly less intuitive. Then again - you often lose communicative ability as you go down that road, it seems. |

| Hmm... let's brainstorm. Yes - lyrics would go a long way in keeping the listener engaged. Also - the drum track is not anything my ear hones in on as deserving my audial attention - I can hear something like a 'stomp & clap' (as in the track "Get over it" by OK GO) Agreed - that ending part might make a good intro! Guitar work is great - keep it up! |

| Sometimes it's hard to find good ambient music on this site... which makes this track (and you as an artist) stand out all the more! Excellent stuff! So something I struggle with in my own writing is: Is it cheating to use loops? What's the line there? Specifically, I am very prone to using loops for drum sequences, as I don't have a set of drums to record with, and can't reproduce the complexity that some of these loops have, you know? What do you think? |

| Man, i can NEVER get my guitar to sound as clean as your does there. And even at 2am, your voice is good as gold! This could be just me - but was there a bit of 'messiness' in the guitar at the very beginning of the song? Excellent tune, Matt! |

| Great question olympus! In taking in Clyfford Still's work, I had to wonder about the title and it's relation to the work he turned out. So I'm thinking that the Korean War wouldn't be an inappropriate topic matter, given the dates he chose. I, as the artist, am making the connection between the colors Still chose, the title he chose, and then my own subjective feelings towards each of those. Who knows what Still had in mind when putting all this together, but to me, it speaks of the darkness inherent in war. | |

| Make this moment last by MattFrance | 1 year ago |
| I think that's just a question of style and what you're hoping to communicate. To my wife's chagrin, I don't often write about romantic love because it gets written about so much - so I've made a promise to myself that when I do write about it, it will be fairly veiled or non-intuitive. But that's just me, and I know I enjoy a large amount of songs that DO write openly about romantic love in ways that communicate the feeling and try to capture a moment as you do here. So really - if YOU feel like the bridge is too cheesy - then maybe it is If your 'artistic convictions' are setting in - pay them heed. But it's all a matter of taste i think. |

| Hey Thanks! I myself was questioning the "far away effect" on the first part. I was hoping to communicate some distance, but wasn't overly happy with the end result! Ironically, the accordion was TOO loud the day I went to finalize the track - so i turned it down... lo and behold, I agree - now it's too quiet! ShadowofNine - Thank you SO much for your ear! |

| That Which I Should Have Done I Did Not Do (The Door) by mabdon | 1 year ago |
| Dyl - you're right on the mark, there. I can think of few songs i've written where I couldn't pick out the major influence - and in this case - you're spot on. If the National didn't exist - i doubt this track would sound the same. I certainly hope to get to a point where I'm drawing on the influences mentioned on my artist page - without specifically sounding like any one in particular! I fear I'm just too early in the journey to have achieved that! |

|
| Say 'I do' by MattFrance | 1 year ago |
| Agreed - GREAT guitar work. I like the phrasing - it's not intuitive from the get-go, which is a quality i really value in music. The lyrics are simple and yet communicate exactly what you would want them to. I like the second set of vocals there. Gives the ear something new to attach to after we've already heard the chorus. I also like the higher pitch that makes it just a bit more urgent. 2 thoughts - and the stronger of the two criticisms is this: Why isn't this available for me to download Then i can pass it on to others when they ask me for new singer/songwriters!Thing #2. The end of the song repeats 4 times "You know I love you so won't you say I do", and diminishes in energy each time, more or less. However, the change in energy between iteration #1 and #2 is a large change, whereas the change from #2 to #3, and then #3 to #4 is much less. I think by having one of the voices sing a melody that's higher in pitch that the two of the second iteration (but not as high as that of the 1st) might smooth the transition from one phrase to the next? |

| Sunrise over Sea (dead animal trilogy) by MattFrance | 1 year ago |
| This is the first time i've listened to your work - loved your original lyrical content, and your voice is a great instrument to tell the story with. Well done. I like the tuning you used! I might be too picky, but it also sounds like one of your strings is just slightly out of tune here - only apparent when you've got octaves on different strings. How do you go about recording your acoustic by the way? I've not been happy with how mine comes out sounding. |

| Dark and haunting! Certainly fits the theme you described in the notes! Great production quality! | |
| Post war confusion by AndyDee | 1 year ago |
| Ooh, about halfway through it starts to remind me of the Lord of the Rings Soundtrack (possibly my favorite of all time) - so LOVING that theme in this work. Just got to the part with the haunting bells - which reminds me of the music used in the Fable video game series - but I very much like the haunting nature of it! Can't wait to hear the finished product! My other favorite moment is when you melt from a minor chord to a major one, just before you oscillate between a major and minor chord a few times, roughly 1/3 of the way though. I'm wondering if there might be something to add at this moment that would command a bit more attention. Your first theme catches attention by very nature of being first. The third section features the high vocals, the fourth has the bells. Might there be something distinctive to add to the portion about 1/3 of the way through? Maybe not! Just a thought. |

| A Still Life by schubertiad | 1 year ago |
| Mmmmmm yes! Your choral work and your alternative bend come together beautifully here! I love your penchant for off-kilter chord progressions! I greatly value unpredictability in music and this is great! Have you ever considered adding any other instruments toward the end to increase the urgency at all? Maybe you wouldn't WANT to create that feel though, since it might serve to be simply beautiful - but I could image some drums or bass starting about 3/5 of the way through and then cutting off again "Take us to a new life" (or at least i think that's what your lyrics are) |

| Thanks for your comments - you know, I thought about reintroducing that guitar at the end to give it 'bookends' so to speak - so with your encouragement, I think I'll look into doing that. I've got a short laundry list of things to alter in each of these tracks. | |
| On the Banks of the Seine by mabdon | 1 year ago |
| Thanks, guys - good thoughts. No, i usually don't ever use that much reverb... ever! But to capture the impressionism, especially one set next to flowing water, my hope was to make something a little less tangible and a little more ethereal. I could think about adding some acoustic guitar... Here are the lyrics: Since I was a little girl/ I envisioned a body placed next to mine/ To share in temporal blisses such as this:/ to watch the waters pass us by/ But now that I've rowed here, alone/ I see as clear the reflection of the stucco home/ I quite prefer to be solit'ry and so I ask/ "If not where, then, would I place my hat?" |

| Well done - a solid tune. Not in my usual 'wheelhouse' of genres, but this makes me like country a bit more. Great background harmonies on the chorus! Voice has a lot of character too. I really like it - just watch pitch here and there, as in the end of the bridge with the words "For Me". Unless intentional! Keep doing what you do! GREAT instrumentation! |

![]() Great work! Production sounds pretty near professional! I'm really impressed! Lyrics are great too! I love the way it's got just a bit more intensity in the chorus that matches well with the lyrics! The reason I joined this site was probably different than most, and that was for constructive criticism - and so the reason I would give 4 on creativity is that it does seem to lean heavily on Imogen Heap's work. But that's natural for any artist (I can't write a single song where i can't pick out my principal influence) so my encouragement is to find what elements of this are unique to you and keep developing and heading in that direction! Great work! Keep it up! |
