Piece of Peace II by Humaniversally 6 months ago
Hi, Bernard. I was over on MacJams and looked you up, wondering if there was anything new from you. I loved Here To Hear, and wondered what you were up to. I was surprised to see that your last post was in 2009 (not that I have any business talking, my last one was in '09, too). So I decided to pop over here to see what I could find..and I found this. What a gorgeous, introspective piece--quiet, yet powerful. Love it. Thanks. smiley Maybe you should post it over on MJ so people there can appreciate it, too. smiley

Thanks, Kenn. Yeah, I took it pretty hard back then. Drove me away from iComp and from music creation for like a year. But I came back. smiley

Thanks, Kenn! I don't know about hard at work--my output has been pretty sad--but I'm getting a little more confident, so I might do some more. smiley

Really nice--love the horn work. Made me feel like I was taking a walk through those New Orleans streets depicted in the artwork. smiley

Jay--

I first heard your work on Bernard's Here To Hear track and I was immediately a fan. I just love your work. I find your splendid horn work here equally amazing. I'm very happy that I found your music.

Thanks for your thoughts on this one, too. You're right, I did approach it from more of a soundtrack angle, but I wasn't sure if that was the most accurate classification of it from a listeners standpoint. I figure this one rides a line between Jazz and New Age. I did consider adding more solos to it, but the more I listened to it the more I got used to it being the way it is, so I may have lost some perspective on it. Thanks again for your thoughts, I'll take them into consideration. smiley

Thanks so much for the kind words, jdwyer. I was beginning to feel invisible, so I'm incredibly relieved to find out someone listened and liked it. smiley

I wouldn't give up on yourself quite so easily--I don't know how to "write" music either--can't read or write it, in fact I can barely play. All I really have is a fairly decent ear for what sounds good (thanks, in part, to a Mom who sang Opera, and a lifelong love for music, film music in particular). Amazing what some rudimentary playing ability and midi editing can do, isn't it? smiley

Listen to the first couple of all loop pieces I did and you'll see that it's possible for you to make the step up, too.

Thanks again.

I just tore someone else up for their (mis)use of the track, so to be fair I thought I should compliment someone who did it right. smiley Nice job on this one. smiley

Somehow I don't think this is what TR intended when he released the track.

So sorry to hear about Pudd, bro. I have 4 cats and if I lost any of them it would devastate me. They're like my kids.

I'm glad you had the chance to dedicate this piece to Pudd--I hope acknowledging his passing in this concrete way helps alleviate some of the pain.

As for the music, it's a beautiful, haunting piece--all the more moving due to its inspiration.

Hang in there bro--and best of luck with the housing transition.

Thanks, Sverker. I appreciate your critique and am not offended at all by your rating. Thanks for listening. As I get more experience with the software and feel more comfortable taking chances, I'm sure I'll be able to do more interesting stuff.

Thanks again.

Very nice--you're lucky to have found so many people who appreciate what you're doing. I, like you, have no musical training (except for Trombone in 7th grade smiley) and have also, thusfar, only used loops.

Unfortunately, the one person who chose to listen to my first two contributions and grade them seemed to have some disdain for people who only use loops, so he only gave me 3 stars for both. I think maybe that scared off some potential listeners. His comments even discouraged me from doing anything else for a while--kind of bummed me out and made me feel unworthy.

You're fortunate to have met up with some more open-minded listeners.

Nice job--keep up the good work. Maybe I should take your lead and keep plugging (looping?) away. smiley
