Biography
Mark Herrick - AKA; The Major or Major Harmony® was born in Michigan.
He has a strong family heritage in the fine arts and music. Mark's grandfather was an architect.
He designed several churches and public schools in the Lansing, Michigan area. His grandfather also designed the original state parks in Michigan. His father played trumpet in the Sexton High School Band and later became a vice president of a bank in downtown Lansing.
His mother plays the piano and is a well know portrait artist. Both parents are still living at eighty-one years old. Mark excelled at music and art in high school.
During his high school years in 1968 he joined a rock and roll band called; The Grains of Sand.
Mark has played guitar and keyboard ever since.
After high school, he was hired by Michigan State University to be the technical illustrator for the chemistry department. During this time Mark made friends with music professors Bea Mangino and Owen Jorgensen. While working at Michigan State, Mark developed an interest in creating an applied music chart. He wondered why there wasn't a music chart similar to the Period Table Of Elements used in chemistry? He thought there should be a standard Applied Music reference.
Mark spent over thirty five years researching and developing a new visual approach for learning music. Herrick invented the Harmony Matrix® which is a matrix illustration that consolidates all scales, chords and keys into one unified Grand Structure Of Harmony.
Color matrix patterns are used to analysis the hard to learn music formulas with pictures. This creates a true "overview" of the functional harmony system and acts as a speed music reference for any music classroom or home study area.
Over the last few weeks Mark has created a new website with two an a half hours of FREE animated cartoon music lessons called;
Major Harmony's - Supersonic Music Course 1.
Major Harmony and his band of cartoon music friends
help teach you the Secret Order of Harmony with
the new Visual Harmony™ music theory and the ... Harmony Matrix®.
Cartoons, colors and box patterns simplify essential music formulas and show how all harmony connects together as one. This material shows the complete integrated system of functional harmony; The Grand Structure of Applied Harmony.
Michigan State Music Professor -
Bea Mangino edited this work.
