There are 3 things that I love in life and they are music, snowboarding and cups of tea. However, as with anything, these things mean nothing without people to share it with.
Michael Ricketts is now 26 years old, living in Bournemouth and chasing the dream of making a living out of what I love. When I’m not writing and playing in the UK, I’m teaching snowboarding in California, where I still play and write when I can.
Music is something that my life has been consumed by from a very early age. I feel lucky to have been influenced by my parents love for various musical genres from rock and roll, to rock, to motown.
Throughout my life I have listened to, and been influenced by so many bands and artists and I try to absorb all of what I hear. With a few exceptions to certain urban styles of music I won't name! Today, at the age of 26, I am really keen on bands such as The Maccabees, The Klaxons, Kasabian among many others. Acoustic artists that I love are Thomas Dybdahl, Kings Of Convenience, Scott Matthews and again many more! Hopefully one day, the name Michael Ricketts will be up there amongst the best!
Describing my own style is something that I find difficult to pin point and even stick to, which I like to think is a quality of my writing. My music is so far all acoustic and can range from something thoughtful and slow paced to something with more aggression.
Whatever mood I'm in when I write, I try to keep my lyrics honest, and my sound raw, which as I am not signed and don't have the luxury of production makes this an easy job!!
