Yeah, great layering. I like how fragments rise to the surface and dip back under again. Def too short though! I want to hear more.

I wish I could design SNES games around your compositions. This would be such a good fighting-through-the-underworld-getting-to-the-big-boss track.

And great pic, too! smiley

Great track, I like the Indian direction you're taking.

Sounds like inspirational country, something you'd hear in The Trucker's Chapel out on I80 in Wyoming. If only you'd hit a long sustain at the end! smiley

"And the Lord will lift you up, people. He will guide you on your long hauls from Indianapolis to Abilene. To be assured of God's grace why don't you buy one of our glow-in-the-dark dashboard angels to watch over you?"

Great track, as always.

Animal House is def. a good description of this sound. smiley

Solid mix and performing. Sounds like you guys had a lot of fun with this. Actually sounds pretty lo-fi early indie rock (a la Quasi or Sleater-Kinney).

Love it, great song! I love good country tracks -- well written, fun, singable. Good ****.
Life Minor Leaguer by johnmoore 5 years ago
Great track, John. It reminds me of all the folk I grew up listening to. Your imperfect voice reminds me of early Dylan. You could easily knock off early Dylan if you intentionally went rhaspy and nasal. But then, there's nothing wrong with not doing Dylan, too. smiley

I was shocked at the low marks from the initial reviewers. This song is absolutely amazing. I was very heartened to see the 5-star reviews later on.

Like some of the other people said above, this is what music is all about. Thank you for making this and posting it!

EZECHIEL 25/17 by archie7777 5 years ago
Great track, Jerome. Get Pulp Fiction sample. And, as always, great beats.

My only complaint is that it's Ezekiel 25:17. Unless it's written different in France? In which case, my bad.

Great sounds, BP. Good build and deep arrangements later on. Excellent mixing, just crisp and clear all the way through.

I'm kinda glad I had insomnia so I had a chance to hear this. smiley

I was expecting another jazz fusion number, but this is just as good. A different sort of fusion, as another reviewer posted.

The sax is a little overpowering in the mix. Otherwise me gusta mucho (only in italian, however you say that).

Reversable Centurion (The Song That Won't Die) by jobu 5 years ago
Great song. Solid, nice progression and arrangement, good harmonies. If only there was a good slow and heavy drum sample to back it up!

If anyone out there is thinking of releasing some more promo samples, a solid slow and heavy drum would be ideal!

I see why the song won't die, too. This would be a great track set to loop. smiley

Jam excerpt [live band] by Bob6stringer 5 years ago
Hot track. I love this ****. I miss going to Dead and Phish shows. Sounds like I would have loved your shows as well.

And this is great early-Dead style energy too (or Allmans, as people keep pointing out). Reminds me of a jam from Live Dead or any number of my 70s bootlegs.
Crimson Sunset [band] by Bob6stringer 5 years ago
Great track. Reminds me of the highlights of the 80s Dead -- when they were good and tight and jamming out. Not unlike an acoustic I Know You Rider.

Sweet harmonies on the end, great energy and performance. I assume you guys have a CD? Or three?
More Than A Dream by joolsoakland 5 years ago
I think stuff is always worth re-recording, remixing, etc. It's always interesting to see how you've grown since the last time you approached a song and the new directions that it takes.

Nice track, very rocking.

Nice. Mellow, smooth. Great chorus. Oooh, nice guitar as well. Great summertime, hang-out-by-the-pool kind of track, sipping on a mojito and getting over that floosie you used to call a girlfriend.
El loco en la calesita (Cover) by lilichi 5 years ago
Gorgeous, Lily.
My sweet baby, the hypocrite by nickblake 5 years ago
The tragedy? Just an ex-girlfriend from long ago. Our relationship was the tragedy.

Oh, oh, oh, the studio tragedy. Oh, that's not a tragedy, just a place-in-life thing. I moved down to Georgia for the summer to spend some time with my dad and packed VERY light. Just a guitar, some clothes, and (of course) my Powerbook. I've been transient for almost the past year so I can focus on music and re-center my life, so my studio gear is all packed away and stored at my mom's house in Jersey. It was hard to part with it, but I forced myself to -- I haven't been away from my gear for 3, 4, 5 years and when I do go away I get jittery. I thought a few months away would be good for me, force me to do other things like spend time with my dad and meditate more and generally figure out why I keep having panic attacks and slips into depression.

Don't know how much I've figured out, but I've definately found music much more fun to work on when it's stripped down to just me and a guitar (and Garageband, of course!). And I've had a blast getting into iComp and hearing all this talent everywhere and people pursuing their dreams to create.

No tragedies, just the usual potholes and speedbumps of life. smiley

And to top it off, I've found the girl I want to marry. Much to my surprise it's the same girl I've been dating for the past 4 years. Which is not to say it's been a bad relationship. I just didn't know we could go as deep as we have since I took some serious time apart (though we talk on the cell once or twice a day smiley).

As for eliminating small-room ambience ... it depends on your setup. I'll email you.
Sweet Dream Abilene by nickblake 5 years ago
Thanks guys. The vocal harmonies on the bridge aren't quite right, and I can't wait to play this with an actual band who can rock it, non-midi style. Le sigh. But it's a fine demo.
Steve Vai by gunk 5 years ago
Nice, I like the groove. And the dead animal smells. I'm sure Steve Vai's hair approves. smiley

You know, this would sound pretty kicking with slamming drums and bass behind it (with staggered entrances, of course, to maximize the animal smelliness). And some chanting, monotonous vocals on top ... hmmm ...

Damn, it makes my head dizzy to try and follow your lines. Great shredding, Shred. I can't believe people can play that fast, it just blows my mind.

Thanks. On second listen, I'm annoyed by the timing on my guitar. I've never been able to get the funk feel down.

All In The Club [With Yoh's Secretary] by archie7777 5 years ago
hahahahahahaha ... I was about to type something when the "aaahhhh" came on. Jesus. She sure does moan.

Unfortunately (moaning aside) Yoh's secretary has turned out to be a crappy dancer. She kept stepping on my toes so I had to leave the dancefloor. Too bad, I liked the tune very much. Maybe there'll be someone else to dance with ... ?

And what a gorgeous voice, Sarah! It could be panned to make it sit better and be more present, but damn your voice sounds good.
Force Ten by Wampwamp 5 years ago
huh ... somehow from the title I was expected a woochy-woochy funk number.

Kick *** track. I agree about the bass, this track needs it badly. Also, crank those m-f'in drums. And keep shredding!

Heck yes. Great track.

Sounds like an out-take from Fear of Music.
Late Night Snack by gunk 5 years ago
Great track, I love the ending. Dark disco. Great stuff.
Spiders in Your Mind by gunk 5 years ago
5

Ah Syd Barrett, how I miss you.

Great stuff, very moody. The bass is too thick, I think -- sounds too distorted. If it were cleaner it would make the song jump more. Or EQed a little brighter.

Otherwise, great work, I like very much.
numbers by offbalance 5 years ago
Interesting (thinking about the numbers and their meaning). Dark, contemplative, just my kind of stuff. Will def. go on my iPod.

Woah, that plane sound effect took me by surprise. I could def. hear more war sound effects mixed in throughout (a la Atom Heart Mother).

Nice chatting with you today.

wood rocks into the night.. song no. 307 by woodguy32 5 years ago
interesting that everyone is describing this as beach music! It sounds like Transylvanian beach music to me (or an upper level from Castlevania smiley. It reminds me of some of the awesome video game music one of my dorm kids used to make. He would stay up all night making these intensely intricate 1:30 min songs that were designed to loop.

He went on to program cell phone ringtones for a living, go figure.

Anyway, this is great. Love the ending, too!
Let's spend the night together (Stones cover) by ponkey 5 years ago
Sounds like a 23rd century remix ... if I was any good at cartooning I'd make a little video of the (very old) Stones hurtling through space bopping in their spaceship. I can see them wizzing past meteors, drag racing aliens, and going to the Discotheque au Pluto to dance the night away afterwards.

Great job, love the falsetto!

Thanks, DD. Just wait until I can play my electric again!

I'm having this problem where I can hear what I want to play (or, in this case, what Floyd played) in my head but when I sit down with guitar in hand it just goes away. I think I'll need to really take my time with this one and re-do it right.

Wow, great guitar work, you have great chops. I like the writing and arrangement a lot.

Same comment about the panning. My guess is you're recording the guitars as stereo tracks and they're only coming in 1 channel (ie the left one).

Holy crap you wail!
morning stand by tetsuya 5 years ago
Nice song, man. Was that stereo separation intentional or were the guitars recorded as stereo tracks (when in fact they only came in through the left channel)? Same with the vox & bass. Whether or not it's intentional it's an interesting effect.

I want to hear a heavy, slightly swung drum on this, esp in the chorus where the bass & kick drum don't sync up.

In general I really like the feel and ideal behind this song, bluesy and mellow as hell.
Breathe, hipsters by nickblake 5 years ago
Thanks, man. I think the intro is a little long, too. I think that's how the original went and I wanted to keep it as close to the original as possible. Though in retrospect I probably should have cut to the chase.
