I was very drawn to the far-away, otherworldly feel of the introductory keyboard line. Then the violin entered without apology, and BAM! I was instantly transported to a new place. Beautiful performance, both of you!

Keith: Have you seen the film All That Jazz? I'm reminded of the part where the film producer is on the director for continually fiddling with the editing, yelling at him that they're running over time and over budget. And the director just keeps nodding and smiling and saying it will be okay and changing the subject. Finally, the director walks off, and the producer starts watching a portion of the re-edited film. His only comment: "Oh my God -- it IS better."

You just keep tweaking, dear Keith. Because, yes -- OMG, it is better. smiley

My father and my family did a LOT of traveling in Central and South America while I was growing up; as a result, I listened to a LOT of this style of Latin music, and I've always loved it so. This is SUCH a joy to listen to; not only is it nostalgic for me, but it makes me want to get up and shake some booty, Latin-style. Plus, the flute solo totally ROCKED!

Ricky's heirs may not be getting any royalties from this piece, but the laws have changed over the course of 70 years, should one wish to take the steps to protect the rights to their work for posterity (check out everything the Disney people do to make sure that their early films don't fall into the public domain).

But, legal issues aside -- THIS ROCKS! Yeah, thanks to the "mainstreaming" of this piece resulting from the 2001 soundtrack, the composition itself has become unfortunately cliché. However, that doesn't make it any less awesome, or make truly innovate arrangements of it unwelcome. And this arrangement is quite welcome. Jazz? Oh, yeah... I think Mr. Strauss would definitely have approved. smiley

I enjoy mixes like this, which push beyond the boundaries of our expectations, and include a bit of humor to boot. Experimental pieces walk a fine line; they can be tedious, or they can be mind-expanding. This work fits, IMO, in the latter category. Nice job.

This is utterly charming -- so glad that your trash was full, so that you didn't kill this, LOL! Truly a lot of fun, with some lovely interplay between different melodic motifs. A little bit innocent, a little bit regal, a little bit "space-y"... so your tribute title seems very appropriate.

This is a really stellar song. I can hear the influences you've cited in your introduction -- but at the same time, I think this ends up being something that's all your own. Enjoyed very much -- thanks for sharing this.
