Keith: Have you seen the film All That Jazz? Ricky's heirs may not be getting any royalties from this piece, but the laws have changed over the course of 70 years, should one wish to take the steps to protect the rights to their work for posterity (check out everything the Disney people do to make sure that their early films don't fall into the public domain). But, legal issues aside -- THIS ROCKS! Yeah, thanks to the "mainstreaming" of this piece resulting from the 2001 soundtrack, the composition itself has become unfortunately cliché. However, that doesn't make it any less awesome, or make truly innovate arrangements of it unwelcome. And this arrangement is quite welcome. Jazz? Oh, yeah... I think Mr. Strauss would definitely have approved.  |
