Banter (v2) by Mungo 4 months ago
thanks bill...thinking about the experiment...if we could actually pull it off and get some recordings of something in different spaces...i wonder if we could morph the recordings into each other (and consequently the acoustic spaces....)

Banter (v2) by Mungo 4 months ago
different reverbs too?
you and me should...get the same instrument...what could it be for consistency? the same recorder...like a zoom H2 or H4....have the same piece of music....and we should both go to different places and send each other our recordings of playing the same piece recorded on the same instrument on the same recorder...and mix the results of that together...
in the mean time...this piece is really very good
thank you bill...you always get me thinking

Faint by Mungo 1 year ago
wow bill

you are definately on a roll and producing some really evocative music

it has just been raining ice here in phoenix (i know, how amazing is that right here in the middle of dantes inferno)

this would have been a perfect soundtrack for slow motion footage of the icy hail stones hitting the floor

Grave Robbers From Outer Space (v3) by Mungo 1 year ago
some very interesting growling noises emerge in this as the tune progresses

i can hear very clearly (and probably in somewhat of a cliche'd manner, a theremin wailing along in the background of my head)

great stuff
VoiceTronics Medley by Mungo 1 year ago
Thanks (again) Bill

Again very inspiring and its making want to do some similar things with vocals, bass and maybe even a glokenspeil that i have

i wish i had a couple of those singing bowls, tuned to different notes too....i have a hunch that when you play them like a wine glass and get those long sustained notes, it would sound pretty interesting running through an array of echo like this

b
End The Dream by Mungo 1 year ago
thanks Bill

so - let me understand the signal path...

output of ultra dub is effected by delay designer...this output is then effected by another delay designer effect....and then another

so the echoes are being echoed?

in addition to the guitar, can i hear a ride cymbal or something or are the high frequencies an artefact of all the delays?

although there is no infinite loop there is evolution in the sound here...and its great

of all the examples you have put up over the last couple of days, this is my fave i think

i wasnt able to get my midi volume pedal today, and i have been pretty tired this evening so i havent got any new reciprocal experiments to share

but i am finding this exchange very inspiring and its making me want to delve deeper

MungoTronics 1 by Mungo 1 year ago
Hi Bill
what guitar are you using here? i was wondering about the limitations of my guitar in my own experiments (i have a cheapo squier strat copy)
again what grabs me about this (i just listened to mungotronics2) is the looping guitar bed sitting underneath the soloing
is that on a separate track?
i think i may have found a new secret weapon that i am going to try in my experiment number 3 - a delay effect called 'echoboy' - possibly the best software delay effect i have ever heard!
back to the sustain tone - are you using a single fuzz effect? have you tried to get some kind of harmonizer effect by adding chorus pedal/pedals after the fuzz pedal in the effect chain?

MungoTronics 2 by Mungo 1 year ago
Hi Bill
I am listening to these tracks in reverse order (mungotronics2 first)
What I truly love about this is the shimmering bed of clean guitar that is hovering in the back ground. Was that achieved by some form of endless loop?

By the way, I tried to re-create you mixer/buss settings that you described in a previous post and failed miserably...I think I started getting confused at the buss 1+2, buss 3+4 terminology...as far as I could see in my attempt to re-create it or something like it, logic only has buss 1, buss 2, buss 3, buss 4 etc.
DONE SOME THINGS by AudioIrony 1 year ago
Love the sound you have got hear (all software guitar amps I presume?)

Also, is that a sample of a delay trail that you are using as a kind of drum hit from time to time? Sounds good.

Is it you singing too?

Obvious comparison for me is portishead, but there is so much more here
frippertronics: experiment 2 by particledots 1 year ago
@ShadowofNine

cheers dave...experiment #3 will be forthcoming in the next day or two

i am about to purchase a midi expression controller to use as a volume pedal to assist in my quest
What Not To Do (sketch) by Mungo 1 year ago
@Mungo - this is not quite the sound i am trying to achieve tonally with the guitar, however the delay echo part is definately in the right region - how did you set up the delay lines?

(didnt me and cat do something with this track back in the day)?

nice laid back version - lovely singing and great guitar tone

b
Aliendigo by Mungo 1 year ago
Nice atmospheres

I could go both ways with the length thing. I really think it is perfect as is, but I also think it would be a great piece to extend, perhaps with some further movement in the soundscape with one or two more drones that could evolve dynamically.

Ideally I could imagine this being achieved by either lighting or movement sensors that would be attached to a midi controller which would in turn impact and influence how the new sounds evolve.

Dancing Barefoot (patti smith cover) by michael2 2 years ago
Hi Michael
good choice of a cover
my first question would be - do you do subgroup mixes? if not, try it - it sounds to me like all you have to do is turn the track down in volume a few db's in order to make the vocals stand out a bit more
send the guitars, bass and drums all to one aux channel, send all the vocals to another
assuming you have got the mix/blend right on each sub mix, all you relly have to contend with then in 2 faders
give it a whirl and let me know how you get on or if i need to explain further

the APOD way of working on stuff is pretty cool and very productive
this was very interesting to work on and its confession time from me - when kevin sent the first acoustic demo, it was actually the first time i heard the song. i am familiar with a lot of floyd stuff but not this one. i deliberately resisted trying to listen to the original as i was working on it on my end. both kevin and michael contributed some brilliant material for me to work with (ie to throw into the blender)
