![]() Tight as hell, yet with the just the right amount of relaxed, in-the-zone feeling. My kind of stuff... yes, the 60s and early 70s did in fact call, but only to give a huge salute to you guys for carrying the banner of real rock into this century. Guitar and piano are stellar, and while the vocal mix could have been a smidge cleaner or a nudge forward, the vocal harmonies were just about perfect, so nice to listen to. Wish I had been there for the show, but Oregon is a long ways away. This is a real treat and will get constant rotation in my playlist. |

![]() Everything is put together so well, and it's so heartfelt. Thanks for another addition to my amazing Scott Carmichael collection, music I always turn to for contemplation and inspiration. Yes, the drums are just right, lots of feeling, perfectly balancing the song from soft to powerful. The bass work is also stellar. I always love your acoustic playing, this doesn't need anything else, but I have no doubt that if you added some electric guitar it would be tasteful and I'd love to hear that, too. 5 stars don't do this justice. -Phil |

| I am deeply saddened by this... I didn't know Marc had passed. He was one of my inspirations here on iComp, and I'm grateful to have collaborated with him on a song. Marc is the person I sent the iComp flag to in Luxembourg, and I am grateful to have known him in some small way in my life. I will always remember you, Marc. -your friend, Phil |

![]() Five stars all around... a gorgeous layering of sounds. The background electric guitar/instrument that comes in around the halfway mark is subtle, but powerful. | Thanks a lot mate... I have been good, although busy in my photography more of late than the music... I want to put the two things (music and photography) together. Some of your songs are perfect for soundtracks for vids or combo stills and video (slideshow/movie...) Maybe one day I'll ask if I can borrow some... Hope things are going good in Sydney, and the hifi store is a huge success. I'd love to see it... stay safe on your bike, mate, and we'll connect soon. all the best -phil |

The whole production is Top Notch!! Thanks for sharing. -phil |

| eastern fairy dance by telecaster29 | 2 years ago |
![]() Thanks for the heads-up on this... it's really very interesting. I really like the interaction between the forward moving beat and the eastern tabla beat. This song blends two personalities in a very creative merge. During the intro part, I was setting myself up for a certain kind of experience, then the beat and bass kicked in - and I knew it was going to get really interesting. I was captured, and it didn't disappoint - there were more surprises along the way. This is a dense, complex, beautiful piece of music. My only suggestion... ahem... .. shorten the fadeout. Even if you let it go a bit for the effect, 45 seconds or so, just not several minutes - it messes with the playlists, etc... |

![]() I really like this... it grows on me the more I listen. The interplay between the mellow guitar tones and the 'nervous' energy of the drums as the song progresses becomes more and more hypnotic. It's a really unique and fine piece of music. Definitely a fave for me. I'm glad I got a chance to hear this...and to add it to my collection of ambient, late-night vibes. -phil |
|
| Night Flight - (Surrender Remix) by pdxflint | 2 years ago |
| Thanks Kevin... what's interesting is that when I did this way back when I just built the background, and then ad-libbed the piano part... it always sounded rough and amateurish to me - but then I'm not a real "player" so there's that basic fact. It was always more about the feeling, kind of an emotional rising, until a sort of peak or apex was reached, then the glide down... much like the flight I described in the intro. I don't think there's really enough structure to it to actually 'fix' it, if you know what I mean (referring to the latest version...) Anyway, I appreciate your take on this. cheers -phil |

| Hey Beatle128... thanks for the feedback. I realize there's a huge difference in how something sounds on headphones vs studio monitors, and especially smaller speakers in radios or laptop built-ins. I need to study more about how to utilize the right compression and levels for a good overall mix - it's definitely an art and I've got a ways to go. Anyway, I appreciate the feedback from a very useful perspective..! Cheers -p |

| TCB: on the way to Shibuya by ponkey | 3 years ago |
![]() I'm only halfway through listening to this track, and I'm just smiling - it's that good. I love the rhythm, background riffs, rough guitar leads and the processed vocals, all of it. It's the perfect length, and in this case, the ending fade is just the right touch. I think this would have done well commercially - as long as it had pub. Anyway, I'm definitely interested in hearing what else you got up your sleeve from this 'album.' Cheers -phil |

| Down At Jimmy Mak's by pdxflint | 3 years ago |
Thanks a lot, ponkey. Yeah, it's very helpful. I was thinking the same thing about that 70's-ish synth, that it really needed to jump out more in front. You made some great suggestions, and I think I'll keep playing with the mix a bit/panning and try out what you said. Anyway, it'll be fun to mess with the recipe... ![]() |
