Biography
jimi has been playing music since he started on cello at the age of 7 in 1969. When his brother brought home the first Black Sabbath album in that same year, jimi's fascination with the electric guitar began. He played his first professional shows in 1976 as an upright bassist, and has played literally thousands of shows in genres from classical to jazz to blues to rock and more. He has fronted many bands, and done sideman work for well over 30 years and plays lead, rhythm and slide guitars as his primary instrument, and began using guitar synthesis a decade ago when fronting the Smokin' Herb band.
He doubles on fretless electric bass, mandolin, and synthesizers, and tho claims he can't sing has a wide variety of material his audiences always seem to enjoy.
He has worked for and supported acts like James Montgomery, Wally "Sweet Daddy" Greaney, the legendary Blues Brother Matt "Guitar" Murphy, and worked with former James Cotton band leader Kennard Johnson. he had the # 2 anti war song on Neil Young's living with war today website with the song "Black Heart/Cold Steel, a collaboration with John Mayall/Shawn Harvey/Brian May sideman and german recording artist Erwin "Whiteaxxxe" Vom Berg...and was the only person to have 4 songs listed there at the time. Currently he records with Mark and Barry Easton and Gary Smith in the Easton Brothers Band (including former members of acclaimed hard rock band from the 70's Avalanche), the studio 307 house band , classic rock cover band "the Boneyard Buddies" or is home with his family.
He retired from live performance in 2005 after being diagnosed with Meniere's Disease and focused on recording at that time, and has a few hundred original songs in various genres "in the can", many of which can be downloaded free on the net. He looks forward to playing live again with his brothers, delighting all the crowds they play for with his intense yet flexible guitar and vocal styles and amusingly irreverant stage antics..
