Fan noise from my macbookpro... cringing under the table by Blacklilyorchard 5 years ago
I think this recording will have a historic importance to it someday. You know, our kids will be older and have kids of their own and your grandkids will be surfing this site and they'll listen to it and say "What do you mean your fan in your computer? You had FANS in your computers?" Just seems funny to me that in such a technological wonder we need motors with rotating blades in there.

So what else have you been up to? Man it's been awhile!

Hey BlackLily is here! Woohoo! I've missed ya, Lily!

About the mix, last night I took this song, totally stripped it of any effects then opened it in Logic Express (the trial version) and am working with it in there. Doesn't fix the problem of hearing it from more of a standard, but it should clean things up a bunch. I will try a few different mixes, burn them and see which sounds best on other systems. Anyways, just nice to hear from you BL! I will pass the "ROCK" comment on to Lisa.

Also, thank you Sarah and ScottyDude! Your comments are very much appreciated.

Man, I really need to get myself some studio reference speakers (or just get in the habit of burning a cd and testing it out on different systems). My teeny-tweeters/sub combination doesn't really emulate what a full-frequency system will do. And my mastering is the biggest thing I want to improve now, so I am very thankful for your comments.

Beatles-esque, huh? I'll take that. And you got the tune in your car? Thats cool too. Thanks for the support, paulhenrys!

Hey Royal,

When I first saw your posting I got a little nervous (as I have a song in the iC theme contest). Your work is always super high-quality. You get 5 stars and you actually deserve 5-stars. These spots are cool. The 2nd one is my fave; love the flute. Is that real flute? Don't tell me its sampled--sounds awesome.

As always, some of the highest quality stuff on the site.

BEAUTIFUL. A glimpse into the mind of Stun Nutz. And is it ever wondrous. This reminds me a lil bit of Alimar's percussion contribution to Emily Rohm's beautiful Debussy recording "Beau Soir". Whoops, it ain't on this site. Must be that other site.

Anyways, I love this piece. Its just so spastic. Reminds me of my soon-to-be 8-year old on any given morning (particularly Saturday and Sunday). Awesome. Awesome. I could just imagine the look on Lionel Richie's face when someone plays this for him. "You have GOT to hear this, man." And then some crazy gun fight could take place. Just a pretend gun fight of course. Maybe a pillow fight.

Thanks all! Stun, Lisa got a big head from your "hubba hubba" comment. Yeah, kept it short and to the point for the theme contest. Funny that the final mix was exactly 1:00. Like I was trying for it.

You will hear more from me AND the wife, Sista Mac. Thanks for the comment!

You are by far the coolest artist on this site. Your wife is Chinese! Now I know where you're getting all this great source material from. How do you do it? Absolutely interesting, yet never too busy or unnecessary. Everything you add is perfect (I dare say). Enjoying this immensely. Good on ya.

Now, everyone else is posting covers and remixes. Maybe its time for the world to know Itchie...

Well done. Some lo-fi sounds, but then with some other layers thrown in. Nice open tuning there. Your voice is reminding me of someone, but can't place it. Very good singing, playing, and the lyrics have punch.

Time to get a good mic and a USB interface, not to get rid of the lo-fi thing, but to have more control over the final sound. You've got talent. Good song.

Damn I can imagine how effin fun this was: rockin' out hair band style with a pal. Wish I was there. Find another friend that can sing falsetto and you've got something for sure.

Nice solid guitar playin' dude.

Good work. Nice build, some nice variation. Does some genre-bending, no doubt. Is that some redline distortion I'm hearing? If so, watch the levels smiley

I was just waiting for some kind of vocals! Good song. Some nice sounds that work well together (if slightly over-used--no fault of your own). Keep 'em coming in '06.

No sooner had I suggested you inject yourself into the song, and voila!

Way more interesting. Good reading too. Where are the lyrics from I wonder...

Some good beginning stuff Wout.
Tek World by pic0 6 years ago
Not gonna vote, if its one of your first pieces. The thing I'm impressed most about the tune's the name: it really fits the sound.

Okay, tough to form a very individual song using just loops. At this point I would suggest that you somehow inject a little bit of you into the piece (or your next piece). Even if its just you saying "butter" once in awhile. For the listener it means gobs to hear something thats never existed before. Having said that, you did pick some cool loops that sound good together. Keep on creating!

You sing with a lot of heart, and in some cases that makes up for an absence of tonal center in the melody. Sometimes you hit notes which I am not sure you mean to but sound very cool with the harmonic structure (chords) of the song, especially the chorus.

In other words, if I held your song in the light of what some very serious musicians are doing on this site then this would be easily criticizable (word?), but on its own there is a lot of merit to what you are doing here. Good on ya!

I just got the new Neil Young for Christmas (the actual CD--it's weird: comes with a little booklet. Don't get that with iTunes. Anyways...) So I am super appreciating the vibe of this one.

I just question slightly the use of the synth trumpet. Of course a real trumpet would be better (Check out the trumpet playing on any Great Aunt Ida track. Just heard of them, and this trumpet player has such an ease of playing, would fit perfectly here). Or do a call out for a trumpet player on iC. Because I think the flavour it adds is good. Almost a Tex-Mex thing.

Very cool track guys. Keep it up.

Ha, I was gonna say that this is a bit busy...and then remembered this is about NYC. Okay, then it perfect. But not a real dissonant busy like most would attempt when thinking about New York. This one is pleasant and really makes you think about the "rube" standing awestruck at the buildings. VG.

Thanks anDroid! Nice to hear someone as enthusiastic about this one as we are. I will for sure share your comparison with her. I think she has so much potential and so will be encouraging her to do more and more.

As far as the multiple d/l's with no comment, as long as its getting out there, I can't complain!

Thanks again for the comments.

Wow, two of my fave females on the site! Snap.

S'been awhile BL, but I'm back from the dead and am gonna work my way through all your new tunes. This is a cool tune. It's reminding me of something...nvmd.

This is great. The opening minute totally set up the mood. And then you laid it back in the middle--'cause you could--you had me hooked. This piece is real cool. I think I'm gonna play around with the Reason demo some more...

I play this one lots at home (thanks for the advance screening!). I really like that you pulled some of the effects off the vocal tracks. It allows me to turn it up even louder! Yeah this latest version rawks even harder. Hey, why not use that opening drum loop for the entire song? It would seem to fit the lo-fi sound real nice. Anyways, you are the master, and I am but the student...

Chant for the Sick by pooey 7 years ago
I am fully recovered, thank you! But now I have something fun to do when I do get sick again. My wife likened the tone of my voice (on the melody) to Aragorn singing at the coronation scene in RotK. Maybe I should be doing soundtracks...

Very cool...you give such life to the loops. Well structured--love how you come out later on in the song. High quality production as usual. Will soon be adding a "Royal72" playlist to my iTunes...

Man this one is screamin for a distorted vocal track a la Pavement. No Suhviiiiiiiivuhs. No survivors...I just may add some for my own personal enjoyment.

This track has a lot of energy and, as long as it is, I listened to the whole song! Woohoo! Its the kind of piece that invites one to join in, that's why I wanted to sing along. Matter of fact, my wife's Grade 4 Vocab list is sitting in front of the monitor and I was screaming the words in my mind (wife is on the phone ya know) and it sounded awesome.

Keep it coming!!!

Would have liked to hear a break in the main rhythmic bed here or there, but that's being picky. I feel like a Canadian Idol judge in the last few shows. You have to say something constructive, although its so damn good. (Theresa was sooo much better than Kalan Baggins). I know how much you loooove the Idol franchise, BL! Keep on rockin' in the free world.

p.s. Was there a song by Neil Young called "Piece of Crap" or is it a figment of my imagination?
Agent Orange by pooey 7 years ago
Thanks Royal. It had me thinking of Rage as well. I have more of a choirboy voice, so it would sound a little bit off if I were to sing along. Who do I know who could...

I am envious of your abilities to a) take an idea and stretch it out, and b) POLISH. (My songs are short and, err, diamonds in the rough).

Number 3 is quite different from 1 and 2. I like the start-n-stop feel of this piece. I also like all the subtleties that make this piece so interesting aurally. As far as the electronic stuff goes on this site, your work deserves attention. Good effort!

Same smart use of a few key elements with some nice arranging. Somehow you made a long piece with only a few changes interesting. However, to me, not as effective as part 1 (where I loved the gradual build, the slow fade and then WHAM, in your face thing). This one sounded a little less captivating. Still a standout amongst a slew of thoughtless loop-based pieces.

Geez, reminds of my days as a youth failing dismally at bars; not being shut-sown per se, but rather finding myself absolutely incapable to actually approach someone of the opposite sex. What does this have to do with the song? Grade A, professional sounding track, guys. Like something I might hear at a dance club (ergo the flashback). I put my subwoofer to work on this track, and it worked hard. Thanks!

Hey thanks...me too! Yeah, the bass line gets a bit off in places (I think it was my second take), but I just wanted to give 'er s*#t. I think it would have been a travesty to try and get it perfect, only to lose that edge.
Agent Orange by pooey 7 years ago
Thanks for the remarks. Yeah, a bit silly that MJ censors the links to this site. And the 4-day (and counting) delay is junk. Give one to iComp!

I know what you are talking about. And it happened by chance. I put the sample down, was listening, then all of a sudden it synched and I was like "Hey, that's nice." You gotta take advantage of those moments. Thanks for writing.
