| Whew I was worried the percussion might be TOO much off the beaten path as it were. I'm very happy to know y'all thought they worked. In regards to the lyrics the opening line just wouldn't leave me alone so I just rolled with them, glad y'all thought they worked as well ![]() Peace, Rob |

| If anyone knows my issues with timing it would be you, HahA. I always been a bit "off" I reckon. Eventually one day I am going to take these percussion tracks and hum-n-strum along to them for a live show. Right now I am just testing their mustard as it were ![]() By the way the "no good pony" line comes from Elmore's "no good doney" line and a play on it, if n ya was wonderin *) |

| The first song I ever heard by The Smothers Brothers was "Chocolate" and I always liked that approach to telling a story, HaHA! And getting a comment and play or two is more than I ever could ever hope for or ask for my brotha *) That stated thanks for being being there for me brothaman and letting be croak over a couple of your songs ![]() Peace, Rob |

| Mariah! by rcandrews | 4 months ago |
| I appreciate that. I went in that direction (desperation) because as a younger kid I don't think I actually realized what the guy/s (remembering the two cowboys were extremely lonely) were doing, which was asking Mariah (the wind) to blow someone in on the wind to them / him. So my approach was more of desperation as I felt that is probably closer to the reality that loneliness brings. Very cool you feel I captured that. Peace |

| Yea it was but the first time I ever heard it was by the Smother Brothers (remembering I was like 1 year old when their version came out) along with "Tom Dooley", "The Streets of Laredo" and "Down in the Valley", the latter being another one I will be posting soon, I hope. I always wanted to have a poke at these "oldies". Also remixing a few others, a couple traditional and then a couple like this offering where I just click record HaHa ![]() I never know how these things will be received don'tcha know. Glad you could dig it *) Peace, Rob |

| Layla 2.0 by rcandrews | 5 months ago |
| Hey pharmakeus, I posted version 3.0 with no effects whats so ever on the vocals save some reverb (18%) if n ya want to give that a spin. Also this track is 100% midi / pencil tooling. I think there are like 18 tracks all total not counting the vocal track with 9 of those being all percussion tracks. The effects on the "guitar" tracks I used are amp simulations after bouncing the midi tracks to an AIF and importing them back into Garageband 9.0 I used the English clean combo stack with some delay 1/4 time, 35.0% repeats and a 12.00% mix and sustain -20db and 2db level for the rhythm guitar that was a steel stringed acoustic guitar in its midi state. The lead licks is a Sunburst midi guitar track bounced to AIF and then treated with the Modern Stack with the Sustain -56.6db and a level of -10db and the delay settings the same as the rhythm guitar settings. The second rhythm guitar track is all midi with the Clean Electric setting. Reverb thorughout the tracks is between 12% and 21% I used Ozone 4 to master the project. Thanks for the nod of approval on my take of the old classic and the condolences about my brother Patrick. Peace |

| Layla 3.0 by rcandrews | 5 months ago |
| Hey jibberman, the only non midi track is my vocals. Alimar turned me onto that penciling tool trick / approach and not being that accomplished of an instrumentalist I use it ALL the time especially when my technical / mechanical abilities can't keep up LMAO *) And yea man it svcks beyond words and feeling to loose those so close to us and I feel your pain brothaman but you are right and Truckin' got me to a better place in regards to getting back on track and truckin on, in that sense. Thanks for that by the way ![]() I think after the holidaze I will dive back into what me and Patrick were doing but man he knew so many tunes and could really sing, not the croakin' thing I do. So the playlists will have to be adjusted and then that whole searching for another guitar player / vocalist. Tanks for giving both Layla's a spin and I am happy to know you liked them Peace |

| Layla 3.0 by rcandrews | 5 months ago |
| Hey Anne, I did try doing this at the original tempo but not being able to "feel it" just kept me steppin' it down until it "felt right". So I am very delighted the folks who have commented are diggin' the vocal, it seemed like forever just trying to find that tempo. And y'all know me I ain't never been into any rating system but very much do appreciate feedback .. the good, the bad and the ugly *) Peace |
|
| Layla 3.0 by rcandrews | 5 months ago |
| I appreciate that LaFayette. I was worried a little bit having slowed the tempo down as much as I did from the original version by Derek and The Dominos and using midi instruments that folks might think I had *******ized it, which has been known to happen HaHa! Peace |

| Layla 2.0 by rcandrews | 5 months ago |
| Hey Kw8zzy8s, much appreciated. I call it croakin' when I get in front of a mic though LMAO *) Those guitar tracks are also produced with midi / pencil tool and amp simulation. I am actually listening to the project I titled Layla 1.5 which doesn't have the chorus effect applied or the doubling vocal track. I'll try to post a version without them. Hey Vixen, I'll take that vote for the effects HahA! What's that old adage ... two out of three ain't bad. Thanks again for the feed back folks. |
|
| Layla 2.0 by rcandrews | 5 months ago |
| Hey becwill, this was completely built using midi and the pencil tool and my midi controller as I did "play" as much as I could on it but the pencil tool is what really tightened it up and those who know me know I have no real sense of timing s=ve it being uncanny, so it was really fun to actually create something in real time HahA *) I learned this midi pencil tool approach from a cat named Alimar. Until I "met"him and started listening to his material I was all about purity of song and all that jazz. And while I do love hummin', strummin' and croakin' I have come to embrace this thing called midi for better or worse ![]() Thanks for givin' the track a spin and I know the tempo is REALLY slow compared to the original but it just felt right to me. Peace |

| Layla 2.0 by rcandrews | 5 months ago |
| Hey Richard, I tried it like you mentioned as well as a million different applications or approaches if you will and it / they really didn't "set" well with the rest of the mix for me. I am also finishing up a version of Wonderful Tonight another song me and my brother were working on. I miss a lot of things in my life including collaborating and what have you but that whole copyright thing at MJ is not one of them *) I just realized I forgot to disable that freakin' ratings thing ... ugh and a big DOH! Appreciate y'all givin' the track a spin and the feed back. Peace when you can get it and Merry Christmas! |

| Thanks folks it was a fun lil diddy to croak to *) The lyric was inspired by a relative of mine that decided to truck out across America a year ago or so and is now headed back home ![]() The album art is actually a photo of him in the Arizona Desert I think. Jibes weren't y'all gonna send me that other one? Peace, Rob |

| Hey Stan I am glad you came and most happy Jibberman liked it enough to point ya this way. In regards to vocals I think the biggest hurdle we all face is the dread of people not liking them. It is why many years ago I decided not to let that get to me. Keeping in mind "singing" ( and I use this term lightly as I am more of a croak-er) out of key or tune isn't akin to people just not liking someones vocals. Besides for me its all about the story tellin' more so than anything else. Well save the percussion and bass lines HaHA! I will try and get over to your page as soon as I can.) And again thanks for the kind words. I am hoping to get a newer mix up and make it downloadable sometime in the distant near future *) Peace, Rob |

| Hey Jibberman, 'preciate that. After Clary died I ended up just putting it away on the "unfinished songs" shelf. And then I decided to try and finish it but like I was telling Richard the old hard drive had crashed so I did what I could with what I had. I un-did the download for now until I can have another go at it and hopefully upload the REAL final version in his memory. I miss the old goat. He once said to me when I asked him what the hell was going on with him, "Rob I am dying proof that a half a gallon of whiskey a day will eventually catch up to ya." And that is really how this song came into being he just "kicked it" before we could really get things going. |

| Hey Bachthoven, that's about all a hack like me can hope for thanks. Hey Richard I made it download-able. Add all the earthy tones and organics ya need to my brotha *) It is from a session in 2007. That hard drive is no longer accessible or is the guy that mixed it. I reckon I could do an acoustic solo thang but then I'd have to re-work the drums back in and well Kelley isn't around no mo' so there won't be any of that goin' on ![]() Peace, Rob |

| HEY TIM! Lots of stuff going on. For one my logic board and hard drive **** the bed on me about a month ago. Fighting with Apple Inc on recovering the data or letting me keep the old hard drive and still get the iMac replaced and or fixed. Making progress but it's slow going. Secondly my right knee has decided to either start rejecting the polymer strap that was implanted back in 03 or some freakiness is going on as its not working too good which has put me in a rather bad mood to say the least. Also my drummer buddy Clary is on his death bed (proof the hard life has its down side) So this too has got me down. So I figured I best just keep to myself until I can shake da voodo dats funking up my world at da mo. I am glad ya dug the tune. I will go have a listen to the collab but I have noway of recording anything unless i use the wife's gear and machine and that would mean me setting up my stuff to it and there is really no room in her room for more gear. what did you have in mind me doin? will you be home later t'day? i'll call ya. just let me know when a good time is *) peace brothaman, Rob |

| Hey Bob, It's all good man. I think we were trying to give it a live feel. And as much as I am NOT a reverb-hound when playing live ya gotta have some eh *) Funny thing reverb. I was once told by a sound guy that "reverb when applied to vocals should stay out of the way until the vocalist gets loud." So yeah brotherman there's probably a tad too much on the lower end vocals (on my voice) I felt Richard's was spot on though ![]() Peace, Rob |

| Hey Folks, It is so cool to see this version gettin some love here. The original was a strummed, out of time piece that was ... not so good. When The Tiler took an interest in this I knew I would have to step up my game. Then as I was singing it and trying to do the lower harmony it just didn't sound right (harmonizing with ones doesn't always work) enter Richard. I asked if he might want to give it a go as well as doing the mix. I was grateful he agreed. He has a great ear and voice ![]() Appreciate the warm kind words. Sincerely, Rob P.S. Coop! Glad you made the drive brothaman, thanks for givin it a spin ![]() |

| yea i searched and a for a real piano player playin like a baby grand instead of midi keys but to no avail however as i type this i just had an idea the two ladies that sing on this will hopefully be re singin the new mix. i am sooo bad sometimes at finishin up somethin. plus way back when i started this venture collabs weren't really big yet and this piece has like 8 or nine different artists. quite the undertakin for someone of my abilities to say the least. thanks for the listen |

| hey folks, I'm very happy y'all are likin this. TheTiler and Richard truly made this a much better piece than the original. I am a sloppy guitar player (using the word player lightly here) and my vocals aren't always pleasing to the ear. So its not surprising that it was me tryin to "up" my game to meet theirs. Im glad a lil love is bein given to this tune, TheTiler and Richard deserve it. They really worked hard with me on it. Thanks, Rob P.S. The image will be uploaded soon Just trying to get the size right ![]() |
