| It goes without saying that working on a song like this made me feel all warm and tingly inside. I've still got each different version as this song naturally evolved in my iTunes and when you get to where this song is now it's truly a testament to everyone's hard work how gre into what it is. I still can't listen to it without getting goosebumps at 'the moment'. Jay and I went through so many different versions of guitar parts and I'm so glad at the fact he took the rhythms on all by himself. We didn't seem to be able to get a gel between us on this one. I love how his opening guitars juxtapose with the clean part I'm doing. Then the way the orchestra grew around and inside it, and then the way the lyrics floated over it.......... Ahh, god damn I love this song. Thanks to everyone and I'd be homoured to work with any of you again in a heartbeat. Sam. |

| Liking the vibe very much. It has a dirty yet controlled feel to it. Nice to hear you shooting ideas up in the air again and catching them on the strings. I'm in agreement with Dan over the snare noise, but I think the opening is what I'd call your 'signature' sound. Totally stripped with a touch of grit. As always, a great song by a great guitar player. It really makes me want to get back to posting regularly |

![]() Chuffing Marvellous. Atmospheric, haunting and seriously Dark. Just my king of thing. I love the progression and the way the guitars kick in is very energetic. I've loved Ignoramous' music for a long time and I love this song for the way it blends so many individuals styles together. All of my hats off at the same time, and then all set on fire!!! Damn, I've got to find some damn time to get back to writing again. |

![]() As an idea piece in it's inception it has huge potential. Very satch like. I think developing the modal structure of the solo line would really give it some boost. You could dive into some lydian, dorian, phygrian and still be in touch with the original feel of the gently picked notes going on. I think it needs an off the beat drum to it that floats between them areas. I can hum it in my head but writing it down is something I can't do. If you ever want to turn it into a collab I'd love to do this with you as we share exactly the same interests in terms of guitar heroes. I've been away for a while but am well and truly back and will be posting a lot fairly soon. I know you loved Opethy (now 'Silent Struggle'). Let me know if you are interested, but I know how personal songs can be once you give birth to them. All the best, Samboway. (all my contact details are on the site). |

![]() Well you know I'd love it but then I'm bias! Out of interest how did you do the drums? It's still the one section of my writing that always holds me back. Looking forward to the pleasure of seeing the DVD release of the gig I went to last year when they finally release it. Only thing is, where are the vocals? I still keep thinking we should do something together as we obvioulsy have very similar styles but with a lot of variation that something grand could come out of it. Once again, great cover |

| Thanks Guys. I had a real blast on this. I'd love to do something again but I have an obligation to give JK and Ignoramous some long overdue guitars first. Then we'll get going with something. Congrats to the winners, but congrats to everyone who took part. 10 years ago this just would NOT be possible, and now almost anyone can reach out and find inspiration with a different artist. Briliant! Sam. |

![]() Supreme, stunning, sheer, musical brilliance. The sound of everyone involved all jumping off the edge of their own unique musical cliffs at EXACTLY the same time. Stuff like this does not happen every day, let alone every once in a while. I have to say that Jay's solo stands out as one of his best ever. I'ver heard him shred many a time and I'm pretty sure he considers this one of his best. I'll completely agree that he's totally trademarked his own acoustic sound. But the way it blends with the vocals in this song really helps it to another level entirely. Nothing but musical jumpy up and downy type wow behaviour from the guy over in surburban London!!! A special moment for you all I'm sure. |

| No I haven't. I'll check them out immediately. Gotta say that as much as I sonically enjoyed Opeth Recently at the Roundhouse in London, they so just did the gig for the DVD. It's as if the crows didn;t exist. Damn shame as they played a blinder, it just felt like they were playing o a blank wall. Anyhow, onto Riverside. Here I go....Wish me luck |

![]() Seriously Brutal. Well done on a truly essential piece of guitar recording equipment. I can send you a whole bunch of really decent sounds if you want. I tend to trawl to web for them and also make a few a home as well. I've got some decent metal ones a la Zakk Wylde and Dream Theater styles. Regards, |

![]() I'm liking this a lot. There's a real song here. I love the lyrics and don't criticse your voice, it sounds great. I love how tight the rhythm guitars are. They really swing in a syncopated way against the drums. Mix is a bit flat but other than that very impressive. ROCK!!! Sam |
|
| Dream by emperialdark | 1 year ago |
![]() Great fretwork. I love the punctuation and the way the riff is subdivided several different ways. Only criticism, but only minor, is that it sounds very flat. Everything seems to be coming out straight rather than a full sounding mix. It's also crying out for a big fat bass to help the guitars get more weight behind it. The guitars though are very good as they have very little low end frequency in them so a bass will defnintely help toughen things up a bit. The bass drum is also very flat but the drums themselves are very impressive and expressive. Very professional sounding. Great song, just needs more teeth!!! |

![]() Great J!. Really cool vibe going on here. Love the beat. It's definitely a good one for the winter days. I love the tapped guitar going on. I'm definitely with Dstadther about the beat sticking your head. Have a feeling I'm going to be humming this one for a goodly while! Sam |

| Wind Chill (ft ghost) by FractalGarden | 1 year ago |
![]() Like a favourite winter coat with a really fuffy collar!! Love it. Beautifully crafted. Actually reminds me of the kind of stuff orbital did on their insides album (the box etc). Jay, your guitar it absolutely perfect. Sits perfectly in the mix. There's a definite lead line that is structured so lyricly. Found the bass slightly lacking through my creatures but I'll try it out on the old bose Quietcomforts on the way into work tomorrow (they really pick out low freq's well). Sombre, but weirdly uplifting. Weird how minor keys can into a positive vibe. Great track. P.S: I've actually picked my guitar up Jay!!!!! I may yet send you something by 2007!!!!!!! |

| The Silent Struggle (Final Version) by samboway | 2 years ago |
| You definitely hear a Gilmour influence in this. My musical taste comes from so many different avenues. Check out Opeth's Damnation album and you'll discover an album that has no heavy guitars in it all but has an amazingly strong presence. And lastly, I just got a bass and will be adding it to all future songs. And knowing me, I'll probably go back to all my old ones and try and add bass to those as well. Thanks for you comments Elder. The lyrics will definitely be a response to JKane's. They should come from the point of view of the mad side of the coin. I'll pass on the recommendation to birdmix77 and we'll see what happens. Cheers |

![]() Great work guys. Such an accomplished song. Really good feel to it. I like the vocals but then it should be obvious that that I'm a fa nof the singer! I'd hav to echo what Jolofsson says about the bass factor though. The mix is a bit tinny. It sounds like there is something in there that could be eq'd to give the whole thing more depth without having to add another part or re-record something. Loving it though! |

| DRIVE! by FractalGarden | 2 years ago |
![]() I will certainly be driving to this. Love the gritty sound of the guitar that comes in. It's haunting but in a good way. Kind of sounds like your driving to rid yourself of some bad feeling and then you lose that bad feeling and move into the realms of being simply happy!!!! Also it's beautifully simple which is just what this kind of track needs to help it emote perfectly. It's a real builder too. Will be listening lots and lots to this. |

| Progressão (Chillin remix) by gsr69 | 2 years ago |
![]() Very nice. Like the feel to it a lot, especially the way it builds so smotthly but surely. I would have liked to hear the bass and main sample shift up down by a minor 3rd as that would have given the song some really powerful dynamics. It would just add that beautiful key change that you get from minor thirds that create that lovely but slightly haunting feel. The orchestral harmony would sound lovely playing over the change serenly. I don't know if you'd mind but I'd love to put a gentle guitar solo over this (very mellow sounds with a touch of reverb. Your license stuff doesn't say if you don't want people to do anything with your stuff so I didn't want to jump in and do something without your permission. Email me to let me know if it's ok as I think it's a beautiful track. Samboway |

![]() sheer beauty. And each five stars is very well deserved. Beautifully produced and SO, SO rich in texture. Simply gorgeous guitar playing. What guitar? How do you record it. I'm scared to ask if it's synthesized as it simply sounds like it was recorded in the kind of studio I have at work. Was this really all in Garageband? Am I allowed to say twice that this is shear beauty??? YES, I am. Absolutely wonderful. |

![]() Absolutely wonderful. Truly a professional work. I'm genuinely moved. It's a true testament to all of us here on iComp that we are able to write music of such a higher calibre than most of the crap that's pumped into radios and music stores. I love the bridge section. The song is a genuine journey. It's also unique in it's sound. Definitely one of the best songs on the whole site. Time to listen again, and again. |

![]() Thrashtastic! Tight guitars, tight drums. Live a glam singers leather trousers. I always like to hear cymbals like that along with double bass drums. It works well to add some high end to the drums to make it less boomy. A little more solo work could give it a boost but that's just my 'widdly widdly' opinion. Look forward to more mate |

| Just to let everyone know, I'm working on a version with some lyrics by Jkane, which sound great. I'm working stupid 13 hour days at the moment so I'm not getting much time to do anything on it apart from weekends. Once it's done though, I need to get someone who can really growl to fill the heavy verse sections in. Also, it'd be interresting to see how some female vocals would work in the middle quiet section. I'll try to get it done quickly, but I want to make sure the drums are louder and better mixed. Also there are some sections that need tweaking (hey, you all know I'm a perfectionist)! |
|

![]() Very nice indeed. Nice drums. Good feel to the rhythm guitars as well. It's got a real song structure. Solo sounds could do with being a bit beefier though. I really like the slower acoustic sections though. A great example of 'less is more'. I'm liking it a lot, real menace to it. Hope to hear more from you. |

![]() Hey, what have we hear. Nothing wrong with entering into a DTB faze. In order to do that you've got to tune your guitar to C G C G C G (with a low G if you've got the seventh)! I like it a lot. It's incredibly introspective. It's the aural equivalent (god I can't spell tonight) of what it is to think. Every note sounds like your were feeling something different. The keyboards kinda prove that as you must have been looking for something different to bring dynamics into it in a different way. I'm gonna redo the chords to '1994' soon and when they're done I'll let you know so you can get them from my .mac account. I haven't forgotten mate. Just got tied up in what I thought was going to be a simple song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

| Thanks loads guys. It's certainly been a labour of love to say the least. As Igno said to me, I'm going to let it breathe for a bit and then have a crack at some solo sections but I agree that having lyrics added first would help create the places where it breathes. Also, like the pathetic perfectionist I am I am going to redo the clean solos to remove the bum notes that exist within it. I agree the drums are too quiet and I'll redo these when I re-attempt the solos. I didn't realise my two index fingers could drum bass drums that fast!!!! Cheers to one and all. |

![]() That's dark. Kinda has a fear factory / NIN feel to it at the intro but then it throws you in a different direction. Guitars could be a bit louder but again your playing is very tight. Nice to hear some lead in there, it fits perfectly over what is underneath it. Definitely needs more though. It ends just when you feel it's begun. Looking forward to hearing more |

| Grinding the Core by hacked_to_pieces | 2 years ago |
![]() Now that's heavy! Definitely hearin g a barney et al influence here along with bands like 'Thus Defiled' etc. I really like the section where the picking goes into 16th notes and then the drums kick back in. Again, only thing I'd say is that a smattering of lead would give the whole song that bit more clarity. Seriously great riffing though |
|
| The Circle by hacked_to_pieces | 2 years ago |
![]() Very nice. Loving the time changes in the riffs. And I like the fact that it has an overall concept to it (and the fact that someone else is donid pinched harmonics as well!) I'd mirror what Igno said about the drums. The rhythm of them is great but they need some minute reverb and a dose of grit to give them more realism. The actual patterns though are great. Any chance of hearing it with a searing lead as well?????? |

| Thanks guys. You haven't even heard the best of it yet! Imagine it then buiding up to massive heavy chords that change key all over the place. That's why I've got to do it in Pro Tools 7 as Garageband just doesn't let you do keychanges. I'm going to do the basic song structure in Soundtrack Pro and then export it into Pro Tools to mix and finish it. Keep watching!! |

![]() Love the feel to this. Kinda reminds me of a group called boymerang who wrote a beautiful song called 'The don'. It made you feel like you were flying, and this does too. You've given this a real song structure which is hard to do when the creative juices flow too fast. My own personal feel would be to put a really light floating solo on the middle but that's just me as a guitarist. You're now in my favourites Monocream. Did you play the acoustic or is it made from loops? |

![]() I like i but it's probably because it's not my taste in music that I don't like the keyboards or bongo drums. The rest of it is really dark and I love it ( I don't know whether it'd upset you to know that it'd work great with some big fat low strung guitars) but theose two elements make it sound like the intro screen to a playstation game. You've definitely got a feeling for the nastier side of audio though. Whether it'll make you go "F**k no, that music's s**t@ or " I hate that ind of genre" have a listen to stuff by bands like Fear Factory or Strapping Young Lad (dodgy band name I know, but great f*****g band). Promise definitely here. |

![]() Loving it! A full structure to it. I think I've worked out what you and I have in common. We like to use chords as a pedal to swing off of (if you know what I mean). You know just when to bring this up, and down. I could see it played live in a big venue with everyone totally tripping out. |

![]() Another New fan like me! Totally different to mine and that's the best bit. You've captured something else about the city. You've used the loops really well. I think an underlying bass note would add another important texture to the song but I don't think it really suffers without it too much. Very, very good |
|
| The Answer by jkane | 3 years ago |
![]() Love it. Really good lyrics and simple, well played moving guitar playing. Love the whistle at the end. Professional in pretty much every much every sense of the word. Only thing I'd say is that all the guitars sound like their fighting for their own space a bit that is a petty little remark compared to a beautiful song like this. Will be listening to more of you stuff for sure. |

| I'd love to do a collab with you BTK. I reckon we could come up with something pretty astounding! Plus the concpt of writing a song with someone in America (and me in London) would just be really cool. What do you think? |
|
| Inspired By BTK by samboway | 3 years ago |
| Cheers all. I'm probably going to spend some time next weekend remixing it and removing the lead line (well, keeping it as a guide) and trying to spread things out a bit. There's so many guitar tracks doing different things (1 is the opening sound doing the main riff, 2 is with a revolving speaker sound playng it an ocatve lower with minor third chords, 3 is the dirty great big low c to to D powerchord double and 4 is a satch like octave up powerchord which also doubles the the c to d but as an octave slide) that i really want to try to spread them out whilst still being able to hear all 4 tracks of drums. I think what I've probably done is put TOO much into it and I should strip some out of it. You can hardly hear the bass! Plus, thanks for liking the ending Ignoramus! If you listen carefully you can hear my top E snap!!! That's why I end up sliding back up. With a locking bridge on a 7 string as soon as you snap the top e the guitar almost perfectly retunes itself from low B upwards to Low C upwards. So what you can hear is me quickly trying to find them same note to bend whilst trying to hide the fact that my high slinky went "Doinggggg"!!! I finally found it on the 24th fret of the 'B' string! the things we go through in the middle of rocking out and being in the zone eh?!? |

| Thanks OH2. There are a few piano licks on there but there very quiet. I kinda dropped them on at the last minute. And surprise surprise I can't find which ones I used now. Just means I'll have to write them myself. I'm also putting a keychange into the new version to throw a bit of variety in there. It just livens things up than if it just stays in one key all the time. |

![]() Loving the vibe to this one. I like songs with varied dynamics and the switch in this worked well. You guitar sound is nice and dirty and it's nice to hear someone making the effort to mike their amp up rather than lazy so and so's like me going through a POD (My Marshall gets sorely underused these days which is a crime). I'm in agreement with the bass issue in that it just leaves everything a little tinny but that's not saying that the overall sound would end up tinny. You are a really good solid guitarist (which as I grow older I prefer more and more). Look forward to hearing more from you. |

| Wormholes by samboway | 3 years ago |
| Funnily enough, Engines is my least favourite Satch album! I prefer 'Joe Satriani' and 'The Extremist'. Thanks loads for your comments. The only thing I'm still trying to perfect is decent drums. I bought DFH2 but when running in it in Pro Tools it's quite difficult to get a decently mixed 'bleeding' kit sound. Plus I find that I have to run the plugin about 3 times in order to seperate things out enough to edit without going crazy! You bought this of DFHS didn't you? How do you use it? | |
| Mellow Anger by samboway | 3 years ago |
| Thanks Ultra2118. I recorded the original guitar parts on the playstation using a midi to audio minijack cable. It was a nightmare as the record tool meant you had to count yourself in dependent on the beat you needed to come. Basically during the solo I was counting semi beats in order to come in on the right record time, and then it would only record 20 seconds at a time. Talk about a headache when your trying to be inspired. What I did was take it into garageband and soundtrack and see if I could add anything to the mix whilst boosting the overall levels (trying to transfer from a playstation memory card was nigh on impossible. I had to play out of the digital out on the PS2 into a Minidisc recorder acting as passthrough mode then capture into Pro Tools Le. Then bounce to disk and work in Garageband!!!!!!!! Talk about a lot of effort for transferring a file! |

![]() Love it. You are a great guitarist ( I just cannot play like you can). I love to hear other people playing in a style that's different to mine as it reminds me just how versitile the guitar is. There isn't a single note out or bummed here at all. Very professionally mixed as well. You've used the reverb perfectly I can't fault it at all. Look forward to more from you. Be interesting to see if we could come up with a bizarre hybrid song between the two of us. |

| Thanks Guys. I didn't have an acoustic when I wrote this so I used the acoustic setting in my PodXT. However, I've now got a beautiful acousitc so it may be time to revisit this one and redo it. Vocals is not really my strong point. I'm great at harmony vocals but don't really have a decent enough voice for a lead vocal line. Plus, I'm CRAP at writing lyrics. They always sound like they've been written by a tormented 15 year old yearning for a girlfriend!!!! |

You've got a good feel for a song's vibe and when to fall and rise with the music Very nice indeed |

| If_Not_But_ when_version_1 by enelze | 3 years ago |
| I agree with Michael Bradley. The flange is a smidge to smothering on your guitar and some of the guitar's are begging for a compressor's loving touch. Drums are good but that snare is painful on headphones! The overall mix is a little backing track heavy and your guitars are left behind the bass (which is very good may I add!) There are some timing issues about half way through but with use of something like Pro Tools or Ableton Live you could sort those out in a jiffy without having to re-record your 'rockin perfect take'!. The timing issues are only on your rhythm though, not your lead which NEEDS MORE VOLUME!!!!! Let that guitar SCREAM!!!!!!!!!! have a fiddle in remixing this and you'll find that anything Michael or I have said can be perfected in a snap of an e string! But it does f*****g rock, oh yes. It does rock! |

With a bit more layering and backing off of the guitars (it's hard, I know!) you could have a big hit on your hands Ironically this is what songs like this avoid, but , maybe I'm just too old to realise it now! None the less, YOU ROCK!!! |

| Am I aloud to post twice and say how good this is? I can hear some serios Pro Tools tweaks, which if anyone thinks is wrong I shake my head at, On second listen the quality of this has NOTHING TO DO WITH PRODUCTION! Sometimes people are naturally gifted as songwriters and evently Inferi is. I just hope to God you have a band. As a late 20's something I urge you to do what you love/ For god's dake don't let that kind of talent go to waste!!!!!!!!!!!! |

![]() Jesus! Do you work? You've got time changes and drums feels the likes of which make me think I've got to give up my job. OR, find a drummer!! Your guitar sounds are brilliant, surely this isn't a garageband song alone. What I'd be interested is how long this took you. I write this kinda stuff but it takes me about 6 months because work / life etc gets in the way. As a guitarist, what's your setup? And what's the drum programme you use? If it's under £300 I'm buying it. Though in all fairness your sorely wasted playing in your bedroom. If your in the UK I'd love to hook up and jam!! Your respectively Sam |

![]() I can't rate i a 5 but it really deserves a 5 because it really remids me of being 15 in my Dad's garage. If only I'd had this kind of stuff 15 years ago! Your rhythm guitarist has a real feel of a song and your bass work is solid. Only thing I'd say is if you know you can't do a solo how you'd like it to sound then leave the space open. Then people can hear what you're actually doing Great though. Don't give up!!! |

![]() LOVE IT! What keyboard did you use? You've got 'it'. Whatever 'it' is, you've got it in spades! I'm looking at the London skyline now and this makes me want to rush out to the nearest pub and soak up the atmosphere! Keep it up |

| Thanks Lagomort. I love constructtive criticism as it really helps players grow I feel. I'm at a weird moment in my playing at the moment where I'm trying to improve some aspects of my technique and I guess it can reflect when you try to start using them in a song for the first time. I've been playing for about 15 years and ironically when I listen to old C90's I recorded the playing (lead wise) is always more inspiring to me. It's because there's a freedom to it that wasn't bogged down by technique. I'm making a big effort at the moment to 'unlearn' everything I've learnt. Thanks for taking the time to listen. Hopefully you'll like some of my other stuff. I certainly try to be as diverse as I can. |

| I use an Ibanez UV777 for rhythm work as the 7th string really gives that super chunk. Then an Ibanez S540R custom for lead as the neck is super slinky. The effects are made via both a POD XT and a few tweaks in garageband. I believe I also used a Boss MT2 and a Morley Bad Horsie for other sections as well. Thanks for your comments, they really mean a lot. |
