Biography
Known for his work and composition in 'Redstains', guitarist Alex S started 'Scar for Life' in 2008. Having gone through an early successful project back in the late 90ies (Vyruz, who opted not to sign with BMG not wanting to compromise their vocal/ lyrical style), Alex S is best known for his work with the late Redstains. Co-composer & guitarist, the band left an EP and a few memorable gigs to their name before solving into thin air.
Known for his work and composition in 'Redstains', guitarist Alex S started 'Scar for Life' in 2008. Having gone through an early successful project back in the late 90ies called Vyruz, Alex S is best known for his work with the late Redstains. Co-composer & guitarist, the band left an EP and a few memorable gigs to their name before solving into thin air.
Now a new venture sees the light of day: melodic rock/ metal act Scar For Life. Creating songs from the most vitriolic, groovy assaults to soft acoustic pieces, this project seems to embrace all the influences that make it emotional and powerful. Always with a penchant for memorable hooks and vocal melodies. Alex S (compositions, guitar, bass) picked Rez (NSPerfect) for singing duties, a soulful rock singer with a unique delivery. On session drumming will be omnipresent Daniel Cardoso (Head Control System, etc), who nowadays needs no further presentation. Additionally, Dinho (New Mechanica; former Redstains singer) was invited for some of the more aggressive vocal parts.
The debut “Scar For Life” full-length release was scheduled for a June / July 2008 recording at UltraSoundSystem studio facilities, with Daniel Cardoso as mixer, while main guitars, bass and vocals will be captured at Alex’s own studio. As for the sound, you’re advised to check the samples for an idea. Making great use of the acoustic guitar, the tracks don’t shy away form lengthiness, taking their time to progress and explore, like small. untimely voyages. According to the founder, each track is like a recollection of something that was already lived, a sound memory. Ethereal, melancholy, deep and touching, vehicled in a varied and layered taste, yet always intertwined with a strong heavy–riff drive, hard indeed it will be not to be scarred by this adventurous new project.
The reception for the debut album was very positive, leading to the search of a live line-up. Some gigs were played as headliners and also an opening slot for RAMP, as well as several acoustic showcases in stores around the country. An acoustic performance from one of these showcases is also available for sale at iTunes Store and Amazon, called “Live & Acoustic”.
“It All Fades Away” was chosen as the name for the 2nd release, to be recorded in May. Drums & vocals will be recorded at UltraSoundStudios, Moita, while the guitars, bass and mix will be layed in Pressplay Studios, by the band’s own Alex S. The line-up for this album features again Rez (vocals), Alex S (guitars), Daniel Cardoso (session drums) and new bass-player Sales (ICON & THE BLACK ROSES). Additionally, several guests will appear, namely Tó Pica (R:A:M:P), Bruno A. (VERTIGO STEPS) and once again Sophie (UNDERSTREAM). A mini-tour is being programmed for the promotion of the album, at the end of 2010.
