| Thanks for the compliments jdwyer. I really appreciate your take on this cut. I have my reservations about much of it but it was so much fun to push my limited skills in GB as far as I could. | |

![]() I love Copland! what would it be like if you did it all with violin??? I never thought of it before now. it would be crazy! Years of App. Spring Suite and i never knew that part was called simple gifts. and I'm with Geechi3: more! more! |

| A Ballad For Some Cowboy by KaiMatsuda | 5 years ago |
| I like this too.Bob6, I came this is one I came to on my own. Glad to see you here. man, there are so many ways this could go. I LIKE the whistle. I love the impulse. I can see that working at the end of a chorus. The upbeat pace and grand, triumphant tone of this arrangement (w/the whistle) is the basis for a tongue in cheek protest song. slow it down by half and you have, truly, a pastural ode to the cowboy. |

![]() Yeah! what a tight song. nice changes. your guitar sounds terrific. What are you playing?love the vocal styling here. i'll check out your other tunes as you suggested. I can imagine maybe a mandolin, and a cello showing up here and there in the background...not too much, just a touch here and there. That's it...if even that. |

| Thanks OBD. I take it as a compliment!I always like his lyrics, --as much for how he would loop together short, well-honed rhyming phrases than as for the actual content ...JT is also one of the most underated guitar player's (in my humble opin) Actually, the Cm7 and Amaj9 (in the key of E)and the walk up the scale in the chorus are JT staples. If you ever listened to John Mayer you'll find those influences there too... |

| That's great OBD and pete. I do like the sketch better for all those reasons too. It's a good feeling when others confirm your own suspicions about the merits of your work. I'm a graphic designer by trade so I can't leave anything alone, which is how the "produced" version came to be. Gave me a nice introduction to Garage Band possibilities. My wife and I were listening to it last night and she kept cracking up at all the schmaltzie parts! | |

| Thank you KaiMatsuda. It's a blast man...can't wait to check out your work And Brother Bob my mentor, that's right as you say...very rough mic-ing... the distortion is a' purpose. Thanks for checking it out. I thought over all that this was a better cut but somehow messed up on the original upload. I know you recognize the basic licks on that solo...you taught them to me in Chicago in '94. However, I tried to keep from copping any homage on the acoustic solo! |

| Hey All. Thanks for the encouragement. I will post a clean guitar and vocal (with a real mic) soon. Another take on it would be great to hear. Get me out of my vacuum. I'll also try to dissect Train in F# and strip it down to some basic tracks (since that one was recorded with a metronome!) |
