ALIBI (sample beat) by shonuff 5 years ago
Sup Alexandre! How are things? Thanks for the feedback, this is exactly the kind of constructive cretique i was looking for.

I heard a hiphop piece by Ludacris today that works similar to the chopped up melody I uning and it gave me a lot of good ideas to add some more variety. the track definately needs a bass guitar riff. i'm also going to add another mid instrument to give it a full range in sound.

Good catch with the mid levels. i had to cut the 808 bass down so the track wouldn't readline. I need to go back in and re-mix it.

Curtis is a freaking genius!!! I've been traking down a lot of his music to sutdy how he put together compositions. "Darker Than Blue" is a wonderful composition. Also, the pieces he did for "Let's Do It Again" and "A Piece of th Action" soundtracks are great.

I also been studying the JBs ... but can't bring myself to sample the music, stuff is too good. (smile)

Thanks for the feedback.

Come on folks keep the C

It's alright. Not feeling the music composion for the subject matter. Needs a harder music concept. Kinda soft feel for the lyrics.

ALIBI (sample beat) by shonuff 5 years ago
Hey, thanks for the C & C. i was thinking of adding some type of slap bass or electric bass riff to the main melody. I'll work on it some more thanks.

Any more C & C folks?

Not sure about this one ... only because of the pitch of the synth melody you used. Coulda ben lower IMO. it's a hip hop beat tho. Can be considered a crossover beat too.

Nice job my man. But I have to say that this is late 90s NY. They kinda got away from the sound trying to keep up with the South. Great job as always.

Man ... Cowboy, if this sounds like anything. it sounds like Little Brother, and they don't get too much airplay because they're actually a quality rap group. Keep it up Q, great job.

Interesting concept. Sounds like something Pastor Troy could rap over. Good job. Needs abother element ... not sure what tho. maybe an accompany melody.
JOHNNYS GROOVE ... by shonuff 5 years ago
I'm sorry for the confusion ... i played the guitar solo with the internal keyboard. The rest was just me editing loops to get the desired arrangement

i don't mind it sounding repetitve, I would have even liked it simpler. The mixing could be better.

Not bad. i lke the concept ... needs to be mixed a lil better but outside of that, I like it.

This is REAL nice. I love the melody of it. it depends on what type of hiphop arrangement your looking at. If it's somwhat more based on rap ... then you don't need the solo, just a harder drum riff. if it's moreso on the lines of a composition that combines singing/prose/rap then I would say add it.
DOWNSOUTH funk loop ... by shonuff 5 years ago
Thanks man ... I thought this composition was going to get a lil more feedback from folks though. i really like the energy of it. I've been using Limwire, but haven' found some accapellas, to hook up with it yet.

REDEMPTION SONG---Sample track by shonuff 5 years ago
Thanks for the comments. I really have to devote some time to layign verses down to some of these tracks. But my fam, reg job, and track production are taking precedence right now.
SLOW BANGER by shonuff 5 years ago
Thanks for the feedback. What about the guitar riff i have faded out between the left and the right channels during the verse section? Is it too much?
SLOW BANGER by shonuff 5 years ago
Thanks. A lot of compositions from the south use guitars and organ riffs. I try to switch it up and use either strings or horns in my comps. I love the fullness of the sounds.

Aww man, great concept for a composition. Sounds sorta like Crucial Conflict out of Chi Town. You said the program is called the Amazing Slow Downer, right?
REMEMBER THE NAME remix by shonuff 5 years ago
Thanks for the comments, @ dappadon, I'll try the sites you suggested. I have so many tracks right now that i want to match up with lyrics to home my production skills. I do a lil mcing myself, but I really don't have enough time to lay down verses to go with the tracks I've created.

With this track ... the bPM is 85, which matches the lyric speed, but the lyric speed was recorded at double-time, so it sounds a lil off. it sorta sounds like somebody's freestyling to the beat. lol

I'm digging this. The cleaning of the recording doesn't bother me as much ... I think it gives the arrangment a nice raw sound wich a good compliment to the track. Good job

RISE ON UP by shonuff 6 years ago
Thanks for your comments man, I appreciate it. I really would have to send you a screen capture of how I edited the loops to make the melody and arrangment i was looking for. I'll just put it like this, I edited the heck out of a Slap Bass loop to make the string section. So you can see how much editing when into making this composition.

I wanted to keep this simple and straight forward, is there anything else, you might would have added? Something it's missing? Your C&C is appreciated.

Nice concept ... really ain't feeling the drum riff though. I would also suggest fading the track out instead of the ending you have now.

Bring the guitar and the rest of the instruments up to matche the volume of the drums. Other than that, it's a tight composition.

Ha, ha ... this is TOO hot!!! Great job!!! I'm feeling this one. What loops did you use for the guitars? I mean, you caould ran it without the breakdow, the loops is definately nice ... even though I'm not hatin on the breakdown either. I would drop out the scratch riff though. I see the sound you're going for, but i think the sounds is soild without it. Good job.
