06-11-10 - Jesus Etc. [Semi-Acoustic](Wilco Cover) by JulietsFuneral 1 year ago
one of my fave songs by wilco...there is also a live version, with electric guitars doin the string parts, that i dig. their yankee hotel foxtrot and summerteeth cds are a both truly excellent from beginning to end.
this is a pretty good version of it you do here. it's stripped down, but retains the flavor of the original.
i like.

wow! where was i? how did i miss this one? this is interesting stuff. very very interesting. it's like roger waters turning into david gilmour as the full moon rises, only to change back at the break of day, as cynical as ever.

i REALLY like the music track a lot...I think it could use a really smokin lead guitar overdub, but it's still pretty tight.Your vocals are good, but i wonder how it would sound with something a little more rough and raw...i might be willing to give it a try if you'd be into that... i love the Band, and this version that you've done of cripple creek is pretty impressive. nice work.

bloody murder (acoustic live 8/3/07) by sonsofhypnos 2 years ago
our first take of this got interrupted by a passing train, which i altered the lyrics to point out in that take. it is now known(to the 4 people who have heard it)as the "hobo knife fight" version. we were havin a really great time that night....nighthawks and murkwood, two other acoustic live tracks, were recorded on the same night.

bloody murder is one of our oldest, and definitely our most performed song. we also have an elderly electric version that we recorded to 4 track tape.maybe a new more fleshed out version will appear someday.who knows?

beneath the shivering trees (original 2008 mix) by sonsofhypnos 2 years ago
the drums are age playing an electric/electronic kit and were recorded live in the "studio" at the same time as the acoustic guitar. i hear a few rough spots in my vocal that i still give me a mini cringe, but all in all not bad i don't think. it was fun to showcase my upper register for a change.

the lyrics are about a man or woman who is experiencing a strange but beautiful twilight world that he/she suspects is some sort of afterlife.the chorus of the song addresses the realization of the crimes/sins the narrator committed in life and the remorse for those actions.as the song ends, the narrator approaches the "secret keepers" to be judged and pass on through this borderland into the next life.

thanks

Apocalypse Eyes by sonsofhypnos 2 years ago
thanks guys!

for the last couple years, writing about apocalyptic end of days scenarios has become quite the recurring theme for me lyrically.

this lyric, though written especially for age's awe inspiringly funky instrumental track,is part of a larger concept i was working on about a man who sees psychic visions of the impending fall of human society and the reemergence of a much more primal civilization living in the ruins of the world's cities.

i get the morrison thing a lot, and yes, i understand, but i don't try to sound like him at all. it's just certain songs and certain keys tend to bring out that bluesy baritone sound. i am a fan of the doors, but i think i also rip off mark lanegan, nick cave, ian curtis and many many other singers. i listen to way too much stuff to not have something rub off on me.

thanks for listenin'

Liar's Oath by sonsofhypnos 2 years ago
it's great to see you back, joe. i'm looking forward to future work with you and age in 2010.

this is another lyric with a watery theme, which seems to happen a lot with us. i think age outdid himself with the production here.

and yes, i know cars don't make the sound of the sea. i was trying to describe the sound of a busy interstate or section of highway from far away, when all that carries is the soft roar and purr of passing vehicles.somewhere dark and secluded where our unbalanced narrator feels more comfortable.

solera, i'm not sure where you hear me singing with myself.it's me and age alternating throughout the song.but hey, at least you enjoyed what you heard, whoever it was. smiley

thanks folks

Save Me by sonsofhypnos 2 years ago
yeah, hasacat, there's definitely a lil bit of self loathing there in the lyrics, but it's really about how that self loathing and despair create emotional barriers in our lives.these self destructive feelings can hobble people and keep them from reaching their full potential. i know a couple of people who think this is about them.nope.sorry.

thanks for listening

Buyer's Remorse by sonsofhypnos 2 years ago
wow. so glad you guys like this one. we hadn't heard it in a few years and both of us were surprised at how good it sounded compared to our recollection of it. this was supposed to be the scratch version of the live vocal/acoustic because it is much slower in tempo in this recording than it was when i normally played it. for some reason i cant remember, we must have just decided to run with it.i love recording semi acoustic, semi live performances of songs to capture the real emotion of the moment, but i always second guess posting them due to imperfections in my performances.

thanks for reading the novel i just posted. see ya soon.
