I love the dissonance. Very minimalist - The chord progressions are very lovely in places.
Larghetto from String Quartet by stviemr 2 years ago
Dear Tobz,

Thank you much! The quartet is the focus of my very sparse free time at the moment and it will be the next thing I post. I should have at least one more movement by the end of June.

Thanks again,
Steve

Dear Unreasoning,

I greatly appreciate your honest review and generous rating. You are correct that there is not a great deal of variation within the piece - it develops but it doesn't feature a strong contrast between the sections. Still, I feel it has potential as a movement between other contrasting movements that are yet to come.

I try not to associate a topic or feeling with any of my pieces - and if I do so it is usually in jest such as "Cabin Fever" which I named after it was written. I feel that is best left to the listener to decide.

FYI this is a repost. I decided to change the title (also file)and unfortunately the only way to do that is delete and resubmit the piece. smiley Thanks for bearing with me if you've heard it before!
Debussy: "The Sunken Cathedral" SYMPHONIC SYNTHESIS by stviemr 2 years ago
Oops! Sorry about that - I think the upload page uses "GarageBand" and "Only loops" as default choices and somehow I missed it when I uploaded the file. Now it's fixed, and yes, only loops would be highly difficult! smiley
Mozart Symphony No. 40 - I. Allegro Molto SYMPHONIC SYNTHESIS by stviemr 2 years ago
I use notation software to create a midi file first. For that I use "Noteworthy Composer"

http://www.noteworthysoftware.com/

The rest is done by playing the file using soundfonts and a little reverb (EAX). The soundfont I am using is a conglomerate of several freely available soundfonts you can find at:

http://www.sf2midi.com

I am also beginning to use software like Cantabile and Synthfont which use the VSTi system and VST effects but this recording was not made using those.

Hope you find this helpful. Thank you for your comments!

Quite pretty, good work.
Cabin Fever by stviemr 3 years ago
soulima-

agreed on balance issues, though with the software I'm using it's like fine tuning with a ball-pin hammer. It's quite mahleresque, probably on account I've listened to far too much mahler for too long, but it'll do for now.
