Biography
Michael Parente - bass
Joe Spencer – drums

History:
History is cool. It has stories about things that happened before today. Some of those stories have sword-fighting.
Influences:
The Maladies have been influenced most by older diseases like Smallpox and the Black Plague. Typhoid, Dyptheria, Tuberculosis. The more modern ailments and scurges just seem somehow less authentic, certainly less effective, and more like the pathetic fabrications of large corporate power structures. We say, “if its not going to lay waste to a contintent or two, its not worth bothering with.”
The Music:
The music tends to make people feel like they can fly. Or at least hop around a bit. We play our guitars like we were strangling cats; you have to be fully commited, press down hard in the appropriate places, and you can't let a little screeching and howling stop you from enjoying yourself.
The Members:
It goes without saying that the members are all larger than average. Erik is almost 6 foot four. He cares deeply and writes passionately about social injustice, mental illness, sexual weirdness, human frailty, and that most devastating of all maladies, love. He would like it if people would call him Lord Erik. But they don't.
Joe hits the skins like they were naughty. Which they might be. But the drums do seem to beg for it. Smack us, Joe! Harder! Faster! So he does. With gusto to be sure, but also with a sensitivity about what is appropriate, of course.
Mike Parente's bass playing is like the glue that holds The Maladies together. Not the kind of glue that people from Wisconsin like to huff. But rather the kind that holds stuff together so well that you might try and use it to build a house with instead of using nails. But don't do that. Nails are good. And so is Mike.
Patrick is an angel from the sky. He came here to make girls feel funny. It is possible that he will bring us all to heaven for a party sometime. But there is some kind of temporary problem with the spam filter in heaven, and that has to be sorted out first.
Recordings:
Since 2005, The Maladies have been nestled safely away in Hailey, Idaho, the soft underbelly of neighboring Sun Valley, where they've been in the studio recording dozens of tracks. Now, they've emerged with their self-titled debut LP: 12 songs about sickness, death and the end of the world (in other words, social injustice, mental illness, sexual weirdness, human frailty and, the most devastating of all maladies: love). But the hands of these four tender lads remain not idle. In addition to distributing the Maladies music on their own label, Darkjoy Records, they're also encouraging, inspiring and nurturing other local artists at their newly built Morningstar Studios. And as they put the finishing touches on their second record, they're plotting a tour of the Northwestern and Mountain States for this coming Fall.

The only bad part really is that our untimely demise in a fiery plane crash probably would have helped album sales. Otherwise, Everyting is Purrrrrfect.
