| Thanks! Yes, there will be more vocals. They will be recorded later this year. The project tells a consistent story across all songs, and character roles are assigned to specific singers (there's Elena, the warrior; Kyle, the test pilot; Nopileos, the saurian; and Cho, the villain). Those four main voices will be sung by two girls (one of them a classical singer), and two guys (one a rock vocalist, one a shouter/grunter). Additionally, there'll be a few supporting vocals. But first, better guitars will be added, and additional solos recorded.... |

@albumflaps: There will be no real bass. This would throw the project back another couple of months: finding someone who can do this with sufficient precision, and learning how to mix real bass. On the next voXager album perhaps, along with real drums  @Eido: Yeah, but I will be very persistent with Sven, the guitar man, about timing. The new guitar tracks he's already recorded are very very good, but I will go through every bar of it in detail |

| Hey Eido, I'm using Shreddage, with some custom scripting and tweaking. Could be made even more realistic sounding, but I didn't want to spend too much time fiddling with something that's going to be replaced with the real thing anyway Just needed a solid basis while putting everything together...Helge |

| Thanks, Eido. I hope it'll be earlier than that Pre-production for most of the songs is done (only 3 of 18 to go), re-recording of guitars has already started, while I'm re-doing keys, drums and bass once more. Vocal recordings could start as early as january 2011. Fast forward one year, and there might be a release in january 2012 |

| Thanks, Eido. I'm still trying to figure out how to make the bass be heard through the thick of the guitars. Worked here, but at the expense of the "bigness". I'm getting there though. Sven uses not so many synths in the songs he writes as I do, so we have only those in the intro. The remaining pads are from an orchestral library. I'm considering to replace some of them with a vintage pad from my Roland JX-8P to get more of that "voxager feel". Oh, and I've got a version with guide vocals sung by Sven. They're quite nonsensical so I'd rather not include them here But for now, on to song 12. Five more to go... |

| Great song, very well done. On the first listening, it sounds almost like a professional production to me. I'd only like the drums a little more in the foreground, and perhaps a little less reverb in some parts (it does lend the song epicness, though, but also blurs it a bit). Writing and arrangment is superb! |

| @Eido: So you did recognize the EZD/DfH combo! You're right about the guitars, I noticed that as soon as I started mixing. They're weaker than the guitars in the other songs somehow, although they were recorded and re-amped exactly the same way the others were. I hope this can be fixed later; if not, I know someone who'll enjoy having the opportunity to record this once again. Especially the shredding part Helge |

| @Eido: Yep, I'm going to post the next draft, but it'll be some time, since there are four vocalists involved. Mixing of the drums is not optimal, but I'll leave the final mix to a pro mixing engineer when all songs have been fully recorded some time next year. Helge |

| @tokai2: The effect applied is a Logic-internal plugin called "Bitcrusher". It basically downsamples any audio thrown at it. I believe there are freeware VST/AU plugins for Windows and Mac that can do the same thing, but I couldn't name one from the top of my head. @All: Thanks for the positive feedback so far! | @Edolonia: Thanks for your comment. In the meantime, I've experimented a little with the mix using your hints as a guide. I'm not going to post the result here, but it's in the D/L section of the voXager site (version 31). Not perferct yet (some distortion, can't really make it go away), but glued together much better now. Sibilance problem should be solved now, too. @Herrsolera: Thanks. I've listened to Ayreon a lot over the last few years, and I love "Dragon on the Sea". Lana Lane's voice is so beautiful. Pity that she and Arjen Lucassen don't like each other anymore There's a track listing -- 16 Songs, plus intro and extro -- and there's a story to be told over these 16 songs. | Not bad! The female singer has a nice voice, but has certainly more potential. Give her something to sing! The keyboard play is a little annoying (too simple). The grunting vocals are great. A little more change would be nice. Overall sound similar to Graveworm, but actually more interesting. I like it! |
