Biography
This is a song taken out of an album a put together with Aldo Struyf under he name "TURNTABE BEACH".
Our album "For Track Daughter" is the result of the start and growth of a unique friendship. Before we hooked up, just our faces were familiar to each other like a couple of years, entering the same gigs, hangouts etc. in Antwerp City (at the time I thought my man was anarrogant prick living in a messy flat and what not, which turned out the opposit).
On a given night we end up in a conversation 'bout our visions concerning music and the making of it. Some two weeks later I visited Aldo and brought my guitar along. After showing me around through his very neat and clean appartment, I was kinda recovering from a ligth shock I got while witnessing his very impressive vinyl collection, both on quality and quantity. There was almost no wallpaper to be seen.
Next thing we sat down and while I'd started playing some improvised kinda funky riff, Aldolino fixed a cool beat underneath and had instantly start to record it all, then added more rythm by playing a groovy bassloop with neatly dosed and playfull excess throughout the song and finished off our very first colaboration with recording an additional more "singing" guitar line of mine and hey, it's one (the only instrumental)of the 21 tracks that had been created "in the same way"; I visited him some 18 times within the next two years, always heading to his place early afteroon and mostly 'round midnight we finished off a whole song and found ourself always in a different "funny" estate.
A lot of emotion, humour, weirdness and magic got involved in what ended up as a full length cd, put together by all by ourselfs. DIY from the music to the cover/booklet artwork and lay out through folding booklets and burning copies (and, ok, had a bunch burned by some nice peeps which ended up as presents for our friends and relatives, zines and some radiostations. We didn't SELL a single CD which nicely illustrates the total lack of ambition we "suffer" when it comes to start doin'gigs, rehearse and get serious, hoping to get somewhere with our music...Well, we get exactly where we wanted to be; once in a while being in totally free, freaky musical company. A while a go, a whole while after we'd finished our 1st prject, we started whenever we found some matching free time in our both superbusy schedules, picking up our thing again. Enjoying he same lack of ambition, ony the name changed and that was because of the sound which had changed drastic; from our lo-fi, poppy, bluesy, experimental as well as often funny and mostly easy tunes, at this time we happen to cranck out a wall of sound and grunting, growling vocals. We call it groovy grindcore and we're called POKE A PIMP now. (Formerly known as Turntable Beach").
We got to know eachoter pretty well, inner evil and
goodies, and so became really good friends. That's why we say THANK U TO THE MUSIC!
Enjoy if you like it,
