| Thanks for comments guys...and yes Pharmakeus I was listening to that acoustic track and I think it sounds funny cause I used a cable and lined in the guitar instead of using a microphone. It is a difficult choice sometimes deciding if I want to mic the guitar or run it into the machine. We will probably be doing another version of this tune with my friend on harmonica and I will mic the guitar. I might even redo the track on this song. Thanks for the heads up.... | |

| North little town by zarizarikun | 1 month ago |
| This starts out reminding me of an old tune by John McLaughlin and the Joe Farrel quartet....from the album with "Follow your heart" on it...1970.....then slides into a Pink Floyd feel.....I keep thinking Gilmour's gonna come in there with his Strat!!!!! NICE! | |
| Sunday blues by w1av | 1 month ago |
| Thanks you for nice comments....I wanted to keep this tune rather short because I am still a little shaky with modal jazz and the notes I play solo. I was trying to keep withing the scale (or MODE)which is not dependent on chord changes. As long as you can find your way back home! I was attempting to stay within the Dorian mode without losing the feel and falling off. It's like riding a wave, trying to stay on it. I listen to some Miles Davis from the late 50's and read about the music and tried to interpret what I think I learned. Of course the odd time makes it more complicated! | |

| Black bean boogie by w1av | 3 months ago |
| Yes this song started out in one direction and ended up in another. The chords were just jazz chords. The melody is pretty simple and I had to work out the melody line for each section of the song....same thing on bass...the bass sort of follows the melody. I think because I can't sing, the songs I do are all complex to make up for my vocal inability! | |
| Black bean boogie by w1av | 3 months ago |
| Thank you for the nice comments. I was sitting with acoustic guitar and playing a chord progression trying to make it go somewhere. I ended up with a 3 part progression but then I had to work out what to play along with it next. So I played some pickin' but didnt use a pick on any tracks. Then it started to sound latin and I added the MIDI percussion. I tried a snare track but it sounded terrible. The bass was tricky. But I am glad you like it! | |

| Yeah it has alot in it. There are TONS of synth vts's.....you have to experiment to find one that does what you want. I like ones with strange vocal-like settings. Also I like the bass synth ones. This particular one comes with actually 2 synths!!! This tune is really a soundtrack that I put to a crazy video I made last week. I figured I would post it as a regular song. |

| SG Blues by w1av | 3 months ago |
| Yes Zappa actually had a few SG's. The one you see him playing on some Youtube clips was a HEAVILY modified one. His Son resurrected it and used it in concert. It's that faded brown looking one. I liked them cause all my guitar hero's played 'em. My main inspiration to get was was John Cippolina from Quicksilver Messenger Service....that hippy band from San Francisco. Before that I was a Strat guy. I bought my first Fender Strat, a new 1977 sunburst model in Florida. | |
| SG Blues by w1av | 3 months ago |
| Hey thanks for commenting...Yah Jibes it is VERY frustrating not having a sax player around, let alone a VST that sounds real. I guess I can only make the best of what is available. I had a MINT 1971 SG Supreme, bought it for $350 in 1980. Wish I still had that. I have had SG's for a long time. I like the way they feel and the thick neck. This particular guitar is a nice one. I was going to use the SG Junior with the P90. I hope the tune isn't too boring cause I know alot of people play a simple 12 bar blues. |

| Is There A Chill In Here? (Remixed and Improved) by MikeHuntingford | 4 months ago |
| Ah yes....reminds me of the days driving around the old Quonset Point air base when I worked for the Port Authority back in early 90's....GRP label stuff.....1990-92....I was a patrolman for the State of RI then working at a defunct air base. Just drivin' around listening to the local jazz station WOTB. Sadly, it is no longer on the air. But they played stuff like this....HEY I noticed in another page you said you got into doing these recordings in 2007. I did too! I started to compose and record in early 2007 when I was living in Connecticut. | |

| The Chill Factor by MikeHuntingford | 4 months ago |
| Hi Mike....I would like to learn a little on how you compose and record! Your music is the stuff I like....I could listen to this all day! I wish I could do "serious" jazz!! Most of my own jazz is really a hybridized effort with alot of influences from Zappa and other crazies. But you are true to form...it's like this big gate opened and I am flooded with the best jazz I have heard in years! | |

| Rainy night on Main Street by w1av | 4 months ago |
| Alot of these tunes just popped into my head. I listen to alot of jazz and mostly listen to progressions, but I am not schooled in music so it's hard to figure out what exact chords to use for a progression...then the chorus/bridge sections....I try to pick related chords and play different voicings in the bridge and chorus. I NEVER use major chords tho. I like using alot of Steely Dan and Sting chords. And I like to play different voicings of them on keys.....glad you like this tune...one of my favorite ones | |
| Gold to Grey [remix] by w1av | 4 months ago |
| Yes Mike I like your keyboarding...you do what I wish I could do.....I like putting tunes together and usually make them too complicated and then I forget exactly how I played them. I guess I live for the moment when it comes to composition! Yeah we can work on some tunes together. | |
| Song for a friend by w1av | 4 months ago |
| Mike, go ahead and work on it....alot of these tunes are open to improvement. I wish I had better keyboard skills...thats where I am lacking. That and NO DRUMMER!!!!! So if you find a song you want to work on you are granted freedom to work on them! | |
| Summer Breeze (Seals & Crofts 1972) by w1av | 4 months ago |
| Hi Mike, yeah go for it, see what you can do.....some songs are hard to produce because alot of times I hear a live version of a song thats better than the original so I try to incorporate both versions. This song is not easy because of the nuances......but download it and see what you can come up with. | |

| Summer Breeze (Seals & Crofts 1972) by w1av | 4 months ago |
| I liked this song when I was a kid cause it was on radio in summer and we were going to the beach alot and it seemed to always be playing. We dont play it exactly the way S&C did it....I jazzed up the rhythm on keyboards by playing the main riff a little different than the guitar. It gives it a more jazzy sound. The original version was faster. | |

| Gold to Grey [remix] by w1av | 6 months ago |
| Thanks for the nice comments.....This one took alot of tweaking to get it to sound right. It's hard to have a bunch of instruments and not have a 'cluttered' sound. I had to give the rhodes a little more high end and dynamic tone. Had to EQ the rhythm guitar so it stood out a little better. Well recording is an art, not a science! | |
| Gold to Grey [remix] by w1av | 6 months ago |
| Hahaha....I like using the rhodes because I just got tired of rhythm guitar all the time. I had some production problems with this tune. I originally was waiting for a vocalist but that never happens so I struggled with a few lead guitar tracks. None of them worked so I tried another guitar and this one seems to be OK. I can't accomplish the same feel without that rhodes you know! | |

| Minimogue groove by w1av | 7 months ago |
| Hi Zincshed...I was listening to the song you did with Grathy....very nice. My girlfriend LOVES that style of music and you guys did it so well. I think I am gonna remix the synth part on my song here...I noticed it sounds unbalanced. Too far to the left. Not sure what to do with the drum track cause it was pre recorded. And I usually am pretty basic on the bass. |
|
| Rainy night on Main Street by w1av | 7 months ago |
| MORE COWBELL????? I recorded this with a VERY minimal set up. Drum track was something I had laying around. The guitar is an Xaviere LP clone with hot rails pickups thru a Fender Super champ, then into M-Audio Fast Track then into Computer program. Bass is an old Jay Turser beat up yard sale model thru ART tube pre-amp and a DBX 266XL compressor. Horns are MIDI saxophone. This VST is the BEST FREE sax around that I have heard so far. It's called "DVS Sax" and was a freebie...The Rhodes keyboard is another VST in the program....then everything is balanced and separated...effects added and mastered with another little gadget.....save completed song as a .wav & .mp3 files. | |
| Virgin of Seven Daggers by pharmakeus | 7 months ago |
| It is a beautiful recording. It is hard to get acoustic guitars to sound good on recordings. But I guess thats whats cool about this hobby, cause you can experiment and find the sound you like if you persevere long enough! It is a chore playing with mic near guitar. Sometimes I just grin & bear it....and do a re take! | |

I do have MIDI instruments I could use but I need to learn first about the structure of classical music....... |
