Drowning (The Upbeat Version - MissRedd/zallaz Cover) by Royall 15 days ago
smiley royall dig the subtle 'Trick' additions!

Missy haven't we had the conversation once about Kurt Cobain mentioning 'Cheap Trick' as an influence? smiley

(ps royall if you haven't heard 2009's 'The Latest' by CT well worth investigating there best album in decades and a track called 'California Girl' so they semi-revist their own back catalogue) ...end of PSA smiley

Woohoo way to go R you've added some great classic rock sensibilities to our lil' tune, diggin' the vibe BIG TIME! Can I be in your band? smiley

Seriously I love what you've done here you've got that authentic North American rock sound that's kind of elusive to a humble Brit like me, you hit my 'Cheap Trick' nerve... you also made the track your own with your own interpretation, a scorching lead break (Royall trademark) the whistling was a fun addition too.

Bought a huge smile to my face too, for all the right reasons, as I said on the other version 'I'm (genuinely) flattered' smiley

Look forward to hearing more Royall music asap!

(btw for anyone reading this hop over and compare and contrast mine and MissRedd's original, there's an audio version, a movie, a t-shirt, mugs, posters, stickers etc... okay I got a lil' carried away there is an audio and a YouTube out there... somewhere, shameless plug overkill or what smiley )

Kudos to you Royall I think you've done a great job, very different from our original. smiley

I'm a great fan of your guitar work so always a pleasure to hear, and it's slightly flattering that it took the song that Jana (MissRedd) and me did to get you posting again on iComp, again thanks it's a terrific version.

Good to hear this song again, nice version T smiley

plus gives me a chance to mention my silly Generation X anecdote, back in '78 they played Northampton UK, anyways Billy Idol walks on stage, 'Good evening Northampton' he says, next thing 'Wallop!' a full pint mug of beer (plastic luckily) hits Idol on the forehead thrown from one of the punks in the crowd. Idol's soaked in beer, not happy. 'Anymore of that **** an we aint playing!' he yells at the crowd, a moment I can still see like it was yesterday.

Saw Idol with The Who too he sang 'Bell Boy' when The Who toured 'Quadrophenia', enough of this nonsense eh? ! smiley

Great sentiment/lyrics/vox, digging Matt's guitar, a very solid track, now this is not a negative but it sure would not sound out of place covered by Robbie Williams (did I just say that?) anyhows way better than anything he's churned out in like years.

Sit on my Face (and tell me that you love me) by JamesJoyride 2 months ago
many many years ago when I heard the original I was not really up on the subject matter but just the daft title and imagery made me laugh back in the day, now being slightly older it still makes me laugh when this song crops up from time to time.

what can I say I'm a full on Python nerd, as for Python never being big in Canada, I do recollect they did embark on a Canadian tour, so there must have been a slight audience in the great white north, for comedies equivalent of The Beatles also in recent memory Python's 'Spamalot' has toured Canada too, just my two cents worth.

Thank-you Ravens for stopping by checking out one from way back smiley

Easy with the sheer amount of tracks on iComp to overlook older tracks, I'm sure there's heaps of great stuff by artists from iComp's earlier days I've overlooked too, it's a problem, but a fun problem.

I must admit rehearing this one in 2009 John's vox still sound great, plus it reminded me of a funny lil' moment from way back when a band I used to follow played this over the PA before they took the stage, crazy! smiley

She'll Never Be The Girl That I Want Her To Be (But She'll Always Be The Girl That I Want) by zallaz 3 months ago
Thank-you nlsn smiley

Dave M cheers for the praise, yeah it's not a 'tongue in cheek' effort at all this one, me at my most 'vulnerable' ever that I can recollect.

On a 'back-story' note while constructing the track I found myself with no drum loop access at the time so hence how it turned out, that in a way influenced things musically on this one, it's very easy to think 'I must add this, I must add that' and end up getting too 'busy', I think by it being so 'minimalist' it's conveyed things clearer on this track, hopefully. smiley
She'll Never Be The Girl That I Want Her To Be (But She'll Always Be The Girl That I Want) by zallaz 3 months ago
Glad you enjoyed the track RavingRedHead. smiley

Yes there is an element of humour in the visuals, as for the lyrics I think I best expressed my feelings when I replied to an iComper on the original post...

zallaz wrote:
thinking back I've penned descriptive, abstract, narrative, social commentary and humorous songs but as far as I can recollect never a 'love song' before.

Perhaps I've been afraid to 'let it all hang out' prior to this?

Initially it came together very swiftly, was easy to construct, it's that 'creative bubble' moment, y'know?

Yeah being in love one can be vulnerable for sure, there's like a quadzillion love songs out there I hope this comes partially close to expressing the 'love' thing, other lyrics can be easier to deliver but when your (one's self) dealing with such a deep feeling/emotion how on earth do you capture that in any form/art without lapsing into gushy cliches, I've tried to in a lil' way here, prolly best not to over explain and just let the track deliver the thoughts as intended.

Where d'you hide the spliff ? by Dylan 3 months ago
this is a great slight diversion from you Dyl, James's fluid sax adds a great dimension, I'm with Missy on this pays a slight nod and a wink in feel to the sound of the Westway, and that can only be a BIG plus in my book! smiley

I shouldn't bring up 'Umbrella Song' but the funny thing is not since that nonsense piece of craziness have I on the day of composing a track felt like dash out to the nearest open mike and playing a new song to folk, in a 'hey I just did this' state of mild excitment.

Keith, thx bud! smiley
