I became aware of Fran aka Ziti via Blaine Transue's 'Virtual Garage' radio show back in the day and this lead me to investigate deeper.

Very sad news to hear of Fran's passing, thank-you for the great music, one heck of a guitar player!

We all have some phrases we use ie 'You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make it drink', 'Too many cooks spoil the broth', etc etc. You get the idea.

But do you have any that have not the standard ending/punchline?

Y'know 'A bird in the hand is worth two in the grocery store' that kind of thing...

So after recently discovering the photographs taken while recording 'All About You' thirty years ago (1982) at Beck, Wellingborough, UK I found myself listening to the track.

image

Kev Gilliland wrote the lyrics, sings and plays guitar.
Phil Rowe plays drums.
Kevin Misan (aka zallaz) plays bass guitar.
The music was a band effort, we all had input.

http://www.icompositions.com/music/song.php?sid=186480

Also seen in the pictures are Sharon Jones (my then fiancee, later wife), the late Tony Jones her Dad and the late George Misan my father. So it is a real time capsule and thanks to both of those guys for driving over with our equipment from Northampton to Beck. Only Kev Gilliland had a driving licence back then.

We also recorded 'I Can't Stand It' that day.

It all went fairly smoothly and was a nice sunny day, although Derek the engineer at Beck said my backing vocals where rubbish and so Kev Gilliland overdubbed them.

Kev was playing an Aria guitar and Phil had Premier drums. I was using a Carlsbro Cobra combo and a 'Decca' bass (that did not really exist, long story) it was really a Commodore bass guitar, purchased from Dave Turley bass player in Northampton band GBH.

Kev Gilliland was in Grip before Catch 22 and went onto a London band 'The Broad Church' who rerecorded 'I Can't Stand It'.

Phil Rowe now works for Northants County Cricket Club, but prior to Catch 22 was in 'Neat, Neat, Neat' with Bob Spence former lead singer of The Zeros and The Tones.

Reality and fiction collide on 'Amanda'.

A track about a doomed relationship that should have never happened, and an excuse to start recording electric properly for the first time since 2008, it has been THAT long, wow!

http://www.icompositions.com/music/song.php?sid=185680

Heaps of first influences seem to appear on this, I hear Lou Reed, and a dash of the late Mick Ronson.

Led Zeppelin's 'Celebration Day' Movie 5 years ago
I might sound damning but I remember when Led Zep represented the alternative, kaftans and the welsh hills and songs inspired by Lord Of The Rings, and just good times.

Decades later it's become product, and those gloriously niave days, when I was young, and so was discovering music seem a fond memory and you can never go back, once innocence is lost, it's gone forever.
Led Zeppelin's 'Celebration Day' Movie 5 years ago
Led Zeppelin 'Celebration Day' without a doubt is a triumph of a concert movie . But it illustrates how dead and moribund rock has become since rocks last great moment the days of Nirvana.

And why's it take a bunch of guys in their 60's having to show how it should be done. It was a musical 'Jurrasic Park' rolling out the dinosaurs of rock for a final pun intended Led Zep fans 'Swan Song'.

I can't fault the movie, what I can fault is the state of the music industry and it's obsession  with rehashing old product, squeezing the last cent out of a very jaded format.

A movie that shows with gazillions as a budget you can fix/edit/correct a live show to basically become a two hour commercial, rammed home with zero subtleness at the end as the credits rolled 'OUT ON DVD Nov the something or other'.

Fun as in watching old faves, but the heavy handed sell, sell, sell element distracted from what was meant to be a concert not a commercial. Music 10 outta 10.
Bare faced marketing oppurtunity minus infinity.

I saw the wrestling yesterday, at Excel, and what an amazing experience that was! I don't even like wrestling, but it didn't matter, as the atmosphere was electric, everyone getting into the spirit of things, lots of talented competitors giving it their all, a vocal audience gee'ing everyone along, and such a happy vibe all the way from the journey there, on the Docklands Light Railway, to the walk up to the venue, with the volunteers so cheerful and obliging, it made me so proud to be part of it all! Well done, GB!

That's awesome you got to an Olympic event!! smiley

The sport was almost becoming irrelevant it was just the atmosphere, it's difficult to explain.

Over the last few weeks of course I've rooted for the home team, but shared in countless other countries great high and low sporting moments. smiley

I've met wonderful folk from all over the world (like an 'iComp live' gone into stellar overdrive).

I agree the Gamesmakers/Volunteers what a magnificent job they did.

A great climax to the womens Olympic football London 2012 tournament.

USA beat Japan 2-1 to clinch Gold, Japan played well, but USA hung on. It was nice to see (and deserved in my bias opinion) to see Canada pick up Bronze too.
