Hi Igno

I dont have a signal chain per se...this is my PRS custom 22 (Ruby) into a Line 6 POD.

For live shows, I plug the POD into a 1963 Ampeg Reverbrocket. The Ampeg has a really really clean sound, so the settings on the POD come thru pretty accurately. I use a wah wah pedal, and occasionally a chorus pedal. I use a bit of delay just to fatten up the sound a bit. The delay is always programmed into the POD.

for recording, i plug the pod into my Alessis interface and record in stereo. But I dont have a bunch of pedals. The ONE pedal I really NEED, I do not have, which would be the floor controller for the POD, so I can switch on the fly....so live, i pretty much have one setting, and control all the sounds from the guitar. The PRS is amazing, you can produce so many tones with just a slight adjustment.

On this recording, I used the POD emulation of the Fender Blackface amp with a 4x10 speaker configuration for the soloing and the background crunch was one of the PODs boutique hi-gain configurations....

The POD is the greatest gift technology has given the guitar playing world. It is the only device you really ever need. Oh, and a cry baby wah pedal!

thanks for the kind words everyone. just to clarify, this is not a band recording, this is a solo effort....i hope to have my great drummer, Fran Bishop lay a drum track on it...maybe someday!

best to all the iCompers....it's good to see this site so vital and active....keep on making music!

Thanks Dave M!

The acoustic guitar is an Ibanez EW (exotic wood)...an off the rack cheap guitar, but very nice to play. The live electric rhythm guitar is My PRS CE 22 named Ruby, thru a 1962 Ampeg ReverbRocket using a LINE6 POD as a tone shaper. For the solo electric guitar, again that's Ruby, thru the POD direct to the MAC. The POD is set to emulate a Fender Super Reverb.

I appreciate the kindess!!

thanks so much for the time you spent with this music, bulerias.

you are, of course correct....there are the evil ones who bring it all on...there is no sympathy from me for those who cause such devastation and horror...this piece was more about the ones directly involved, either as helpless victim, or duty bound fighter...just a reflection of how horrible it all is. How terrifying it must be on both sides.

i am honored by your comments...i will find some time to drop by your page and have a listen to your music, my friend!

Yonder Comes The Blues LIVE VIDEO by ziti 2 years ago
to Bob6stringer:

DO NOT COVET MY TALENT!!!!....it took me years to learn to express myself and play what i hear in my head, because I stubbornly refused lessons or training of any kind...I had to learn for myself (my rationale at age 11 was, if the Beatles could teach themselves, I could)...and I still struggle with the simplest things. I wish to God I could read music, because now that my guitar chops are getting ripe, I could play anything I wanted to if i could read.

I am sure there are books of alternate blues progressions...I've never seen one or used one...but I started to figure out these alternate progressions by listening to some of the older jazz albums I have by guitar players like Grant Green, Kenny Burrell, and Wes Montgomery...those guys all played blues...but it was heady blues, with all sorts of twists and turns. I personally prefer the more traditional blues of BB or Albert King...but if you start to incorprate these more sophisticated variations on the chords, but keep the soloing in the more "urban"(for lack of a better term) or in the King/Guy/Magic Sam vein, the results are very sweet to my ears. (I think the best blues guitar player in the whole world is Duke Robillard, and I think he is a MASTER at incorporating the older styles with the newer...check out his work for ideas.)

this particular progression is really just 2 parts....if we play it in E (I am playing in F# on this cuz it's comfy to sing)...the changes would be:

E7--C#9--F#13-B7/9

E7-Ab7-A7-F#7-E7-C#9-F#13-B9 and resolving back to E or the one of the progression.

the 9th chord voicing and the 13th chord voicing I use ALOT in substitutions for straight 7th chords or major triads.

I think the thing that makes the chords I'm playing sound like something complicated, is that i use open strings in conjunction with the chords fingered on only 2 or three strings. These open strings form a bridge from one change to the next, and depending on the key you are playing in, the open strings really can add a lot of color and tension.

And this is the most I have ever talked about how I play. I hope it makes sense to you, and can help a bit. I am reletively new to acoustic guitar playing...and singing and playing at the same time is really really hard for me, so the only real answer...PRACTICE, LISTEN, PRACTICE, LISTEN. If you can read music...then seek out some good blues books, and you will learn more than I could ever show you.

I appreciate your kind words about my little video!!!!

THE OUTSIDER (Purgatory Blues) by Barretok 2 years ago
Sorry it's taken me so long to comment, my friend....i cant believe what a idiot i am some times...anyway, I got the idea of asking Barretoc to do a collab after hearing the way he approached things and after seeing a clip on YouTube of Jack Keroac appearing on the old Steve Allen show. Steve Allen was my boyhood idol, his sense of humor KILLED me and his great musicianship is renown. On this clip, steve improvises a beautiful blues on the piano while jack read from "on the road"...seek out the clip...it is really cool.....anyway, i thought Barre's style of blues poetry might fit with a modern style electric blues. Does the experiment work? I kinda think it does...way to go Barretoc, my man!

Helping us on here is the great harmonica player Scott Bronnes. He plays a really good solo here...true blues from a master player. Nice guy too, plays with my band very often.

anyhow, hat's off to the mad mad Barretoc!

much love

hehehehe...thanks lenny!....I postd this late last night, but pulled it and re-submitted...made a tiny tweak...

this is one of my favorite collaborations...in it's original, the guitars were more aggressive, and the addition of slide has given it an eastern feel I think...but a very deep song, with a million layers revealing themselves.

mysti's contribution...of course is the main element that makes this whole thing work. she is a force of nature.

slide guitar is brand new to me, so thanks for the kind words....i think the key is setting up a guitar JUST for slide...raised action...fatt strings...and the jim dunlop fat glass slide makes a nice warm sound...I have never invested a lot of time playing these old blues...never thought i wanted too really...but i am having a blast making these recordings and i am really pleased with the result. I am working with the great harmonica player, scott bronnes...look for another post or two...and hopefully a cd for sale on THELOSTRECORDS and iTune by spring!

god bless the blues...such a great style of music...but that's just me....

I have LOVED blues music since I was just a boy....it is still my very favorite to play, and I am always amazed at how hard it can be to keep it sounding like blues...there is a feel, a mode of thinking you have to slip into. Sometimes to me..playing blues for 5 minutes and have it sound like the blues, seems impossible...I listen to the TRUE masters of the idiom and just marvel.

thank you for the kindness!

thank you thank you to all...Illuminator, those are words of high praise and i truly appreciate them. to me, the electric guitar has the ability to convey sadness and isolation and loss in a very profound way. The sound of the instrument cuts right to the heart(at least my heart anyway). I often wonder what would happen to me if i did not have this outlet....prolly i would just one day pop.

Sunday is a Good Day (for the Blues) by ziti 3 years ago
thank you everyone! these kind of slow blues tunes aren't very popular it seems...i could never understand why really. the possibilities are endless lyrically and musically within the structure, and it's so fun to play. But that's just me i guess. I really wanted to close the ROAD AHEAD cd with a slow blues that sounded and felt like the ones i learned from when i was a kid. and i would have failed if it were not for the contribution of my bass player Brayan Bishop. He just fell into the pocket and did the slow simmer the song needed. I could've played the bass for 6 months and not got it that good. I am so happy to get the kind responses from the nice people around here!

Look for some more posts from me in the near future...i enjoy sharing my work here. Thank you all!

jeez...is there anything this girl won't try...I don't care for this style of pop music much...but this is excellent. I agree that the vocall sounds "outside" the music...i am aware it's an overdub. This can be easily overcome by mixing it in the native garage band instead of on top of an mp3. It would be definately worth the time to do that cuz this is a very good piece of work!

Nice guitar ponkey, perfect for the song. All in all very enjoyable.

Gotta give you all the props for trying something like this. It is a testiment to you skills that you pull it off so well.

deep bows, fine collab

McBoy can pretty much play anything, and you mystified can sing just about anything...the production is really sparse and perfect...this has a very intimate feel, and a relaxed delivery. The little off time bits throw me a bit, but not enough to distract....beautiful stuff as always

Teddy C---My standard stage and studio setup is one of 2 PRS custom 22 guitars thru LINE6 gear...for the studio I have a POD and for live gigs I have a FlexTone II...dont really use effects as such all that much...occasionaly a phase or chorus...some delay...and I love wah wah....but pretty much guitar into amp.

Thank you so much for the kind words everyone !!
Cat's Walk by ziti 4 years ago
thank you for the very kind comments bob6...the chord structure here is deceptively simple...and the solo is pretty much a straight improvisation in the key of e major over the changes...not unlike E Reed...only the major key makes it sound more restful than the high energy of he minor improvisations of the allman classic. Any rock hack could play over Cat's Walk too, if they can improvise in the major key. I find the straight major scale really challenging to play in because wrong notes sound REALLY wrong!

Your kind comments on my palying are highly appreciated!

peace to ya!

while i am a long time fan of mysti, fortunato is new to me, and seems to be a perfect match for the glorious mystified. This is an ancient piece that ws actually performed live many centuries ago...fortunato had his recording gear turned up all the way, and caught the drifts as they floated by....

a GREAT track!!!

Wayfaring Stranger by ziti 4 years ago
I must respond to all with a huge thank you. This was a special time for me...not only getting to collaborate with someone with such amazing gifts, but using the spirit of this music to heal myself during some hard times.

As for David Gilmour, I swear I NEVER listen to Pink Floyd...only what i have heard on the radio...I do enjoy his playing very much when I hear it, and I can understand people saying thereis a similarity...but I have never tried to emulate his style. My early influences were eric clapton, albert king, bb king and Peter Green. In my early days of playing, i had a fondness for alvin lee and johnny winter, but that influence diminished sharply as i matured as a player. Now, I love so many players that trying to list them would be pointless. Alvin Lee is NOT on the list!

I have come to believe that while great technique is a marvelous thing to have, and worth striving for, it is only a tool and not the end product. The job of the guitar player is find his own voice inside the instrument, and then learn to speak in that voice.

Thank you so much to Mysti for arranging this and presenting it to me to play over. The end vocal section still makes me tremble! I LOVE MYSTIFIED'D MUSIC. Her spirit and creativity are no less than phenomenal and I am proud to call her friend.

your recording needs to have some sort of bottom end. it sounds very flat. clever guitar solo well played. The drums don't fit the tune...need to delineate the time more clearly...
I wish I knew how it would feel to be free (cover) by Sverker 4 years ago

well i don't mean to discourage you but...the scales you play for the guitar solos sound very off...try more straight major scales, rather than pentatonic. the vocals sound very thin and reedy, plus you're out of tune. background vocals break up. drums come and go for no apparent reason...it seems to me you got a ways to go on this....

Again, great playing Anders. There's a whole lot of Stevie Ray wannabes....but only one ANDERS. You definatly got the chops...reach in and find your own. Beautiful tone and control. Fine work from the bass and drum guy too! My only complaint is your reliance on SRV for now. But keep going, bro, you got the stuff. and the soul!!
