UK iCompers Will You Be Watching 'The Voice'?
Yep another (thud, yawn!) talent show, this time the judges Jessie J, Will I Am, Tom Jones have their backs to the singers so they cannot be influenced by looks etc, a gimick or not?
We will see as 'Britains Got Talent' returns soon oh the battle of the TV networks, pass me the remote... click! |

The Voice is an invention of the Dutch mediatycoon, John de Mol., he sold the concept all over the world. He was already Holland's richest man, but his wealth will double I guess. We already have a kids version too hehehe |

I swallow all this kind of shows raw.
X-factor, Talent, The Voice. Why not. I know it is a lot of tearporn but you get to see a lot of new talent at the later shows in a season and a few get a carreer afterwards.
Alternatives on TV on a Friday night can be a lot worse. |

The US version has a lot of singers who have actually been signed and or toured or was an opening act, or background singers for top acts etc. as well as management and CD's in stores. Last years winner Javier and this year Jessie I know for sure. I think the US version is a second chance or more exposure type of deal instead of the typical never had a shot before like some of the other shows. |

@hiphopmoses I'm not going to pass that info on until she hears back. If she didn't make the cut, then I'll let my daughter know. |

@LunaBleu Hopefully they allow some room for talented people regardless of their prior experiences. It would be a shame and yet another mockery of a titled show i.e the "voice" "American Idol" "America's got Talent" to actually deny talent from entering. American idol has become so politically correct and such a farce I can't stand to watch it. Even America's got talent seems to be missing the mark. One can only hope the exposure of the pure talented ones pays off some how, as I hope your daughter makes it through. |

I don't watch these shows they turn me off, Covers on top of covers drives me crazy, plus when I find someone who is interesting they get voted off by the public or the judges, Maddening... |

@ShadowofNine hehe that sounds familiar my wife and daughter watch all those show and everytime I have a favorite they're out the next round, lol..
@Xolv we already have a show like that in Holland :-)It's a mix of what Moses described mixed with new talent. The wellknown singers are mystery guests... |

Shadow - that's my issue also. We watched The Voice the first few weeks to hear the auditions but, after it gets going, the most interesting people are usually voted off. When they're battling to stay on, they are sometimes allowed to pick what they sing and those performances are sometimes very good. The ones they're asked to do are usually a mistake and the orchestra is almost always too loud.
Duets is more interesting to me at this point... there are inequities and things which annoy me but there are a few people whose performances are truly entertaining to me. (That's what you mentioned Xolv - megastars singing with 'unknown' artists. Here in the States, anyway, it's Kelly Clarkson, Robin Thicke, John Legend, and Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland.)
The only one of these shows that I really loved and watch copies of later on is The Sing Off. It made it for 4 seasons - all a cappella from beginning to end - and so voices really are the central and only thing going on. It's amazing what some of these groups do and the people who create the opening numbers (which include all of the contestants singing together) have been wonderful to stellar - the kind of thing that can actually thrill you and make you stand up and cheer at its best. Of course, they've been cancelled and there won't be a fifth season. Typical.
I wouldn't watch American Idol if I were paid to do it.
America's Got Talent can be truly awful but sometimes it's amazing. A guilty pleasure which I watch on demand, not when it's airing, while I do other things. |
