Wow great topic. I grew up listening to so many different styles. I got into Opera during Bohemian Rhapsody, actually sitting through La Boheme and others, but influences in no particular order:

Bob Marley/IRoy/URoy/BigYouth/ThePolice/GeneralPublic/AugPablo.
James Brown/Prince/MichaelJackson/Earthwindfire/ParliamentFunkadelic/
Queen/PinkFloyd/LedZeppelin/Fishbone/LivingColor/Santana/ThinLizzy/VanHalen(Dave Lee)/TheCure
Fela/Lata Mangeshkar/
Leontyn Price/Kathleen Battle/Bach/Brahms/Vivaldi/Beethoven/Joaquin Rodrigo/Andres Segovia
MilesDavis/JohnColtrane/OmarHakim/

My, the list could go on, but the more I think about it, this list is probably more indicative to what I have reached for time and again when I turn my iPod on. Certainly not authoratative, but my likes.

My inspiration is Josh Ritter, singer/songwriter from Moscow, Idaho. He's the most humble, down to earth (and one of the most talented) of any artist I've seen. I saw him play at a show in Eugene, Oregon and he seemed almost embarrassed by the applause. After he performed, and during the intermission, he came out to crowd and chatted with anyone who wanted to chat.

To me, he just seems like a regular guy, who loves music and enjoys sharing his music with people. To me, that's inspiring.

Me too.. I did a youtube cover of Girl In The War and I absolutely love his songwriting!

Unbelievably, considering that I have every song and video she has ever made and consider her one of the greatest living musicians on earth, I left off Bjork. Also, though he's not a musician, exactly, I get great inspiration from Joe Frank.

Alice in Chains, Jerry Cantrell(You Rock! Buddy!), Willie Nelson, Terrence Trent D'Arby, who now goes by a new moniker, Megadeth (luv ya, Dave!) Faith No More, Yo! MTV Raps back in the 8o's, pop, rock, Judas Priest (Halford!) Iron Maiden, GNR, red Hor Chilli Pepers, etc. (Ich Liebe the 90's) Ahh, I see my influences, all of music in general, as one big rib.... I eat and digest what I can (the things I like) and spit out or pass the things I don't.... I must say, the non musical influences range from my childhood friends, local musicians I know, personal experiences, books, shows and movies I've seen... and yes, even some dreams I've had... political issues, the news, life in general, and all the fine wine, women and songs I take pleasure in along the way.
