You know, I agree with few things as wholeheartedly as with what FC said. I would only add that there are mysteries that unravel and good things that can happen when you get to know what you have and how to use it thoroughly.
Good luck!

I would second this. It will also be easier to find software and other audio equipment that works with it. |

I pulled the trigger and bought a new Mac Mini
2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB memory
160GB hard drive
I am still moving into it and havent yet spent any time with GB, but I plan to spend a few evenings this week exploring.
So far I am kicking myself for not buying one of these years ago. |

I also still have a G4 (tower) and it runs beautifully, if more slowly, than my newer macs. The G4 is a great machine and built to last. |

I still use my Powerbook G4 and have produced great quality music with it. I have since upgraded to an intel iMac so i could use the neewer versions of Logic Pro, GB, and video editing software. A G4 will work fine, but if you want to use the latest Mac versions of GB or you plan to lay down a ton of tracks or do live simultaneous tracks, you should go with a better processor. Using the G4 based Mac, you'll just have to lock (Bounce to disk) your completed tracks so you can keep tracking. Some G4's like mine have Firewire 400 & 800 ports. Just plug in your audio interface and launch GB and you're good to go. |

Buy a refurbished one from the apple store .. cleaned with warranty .. up to 20% discount, its as good as new and takes any worry away from buying second hand.

Don't buy a G4. Old technology. Not upgrade-able. You will regret it. |

Since the original post was 3 years ago, he's probably upgraded to an Intel. |

I posted above that I bought a Mac Mini. It did not last a full year before i had returned it 5 times for service. The new at the time 2010 Mac Mini they replaced it with has run like a champ and met my Garage Band needs quite well since then. |
