We already have a thread called "what are you listening to today?". How about one relating to what tune is playing in your head?
I read a superb article on the BBC relating to "Earworms".
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-17105759
My brain is a constant jukebox and when I don't have me i-pod I usually select a tune or two in me "mind music box" to compensate.
Most of the time I am happy with the tunes my brain has randomly selected, however I did have the legendary Syd Barrett's "Golden Hair" buzzing around for a whole week!!!!
This morning the song I woke up to was The Kinks - "Most Exclusive Residence For Sale" from their Face to Face LP.
Cosmic!
So whats in yer ead? |

Ehrwurm is the term in Germany, where some claim the idea originated. Meh on the origination, but maybe they described it effectively...as it translates directly to "ear worm."
The fun behind the concept is that it seems to happen, but I wonder if "upbeat music" and "catchiness" aren't more subjective than the researchers were looking. Arguably, very dark songs get played with visuals in my head many hours after listening to them. Viral, but not necessarily hop, skip, and jump music.
Lately, I think my ehrwurm has been Transistor Radio by Cloud Cult...nothing like a non-profit band to make you think, neh?
Peace all, and nice thread zag!

Sometimes, I weak up with a composition I don't recognize in my head, and hope my subconsciousness has composed it and made that ear worm.
Sometimes, it goes away as a get more awake. Sometimes it really does not sound all that good once I play it. I've not found it to be plagiarism, but I expect earworm compositions to be. |
