I need to check another browser, but I have noticed that, at the beginning of some of my uploaded songs, some small clicks and pops. It seems to have started a few weeks ago. Not overally problematic....just a comment.

Apparently it's a bug in the latest version of Quicktime. Apple is aware of the problem and hopefully working to fix it. |

It only seems to happen with MP3, also. AACs, that I've tried anyway, appear to work fine. Hopefully Apple will fix it soon. |

The easy way to fix this involves giving your mix one measure of silence, then hacking off the beginning of the song using an external sound editor such as FeltTip's Sound Studio. Earlier versions of this software is available for free at
http://www.felttip.com/. |

I have those clicks and pops now too.
Probably a dumb question - if the bug in Quicktime is fixed, will that remove the noises from the existing uploaded songs on the iComp site? If not, would I have to re-upload and will I lose the history for the songs?

I assume that since it's a Quicktime bug, it only affects playing the music. Therefore, once it's fixed, songs should sound fine. |

The songs on iComp cant be fixed if GarageBand exports the song with a pop. I had a problem with this before. On tracks with reverb, the pop even echoed. I solved the problem by saving first, setting the play indicator all the way to the beginning of the song, then exporting. If there was still a pop, editing it externally fixed the problem. |

But are we sure GarageBand is exporting it with a pop? My understanding of the bug was that it affected playback. |

I have had the same problem with Quicktime 7.0.4 - but the pops and clicks are NOT on the track itself. The pops are heard upon playback of any Quicktime file as the file is downloading. Once the download is complete, the pops and clicks go away. The problem can be fixed, sort of, by downloading a "retrograde" from Apple to Quicktime 7.0.1. However, if you have GarageBand 3, it will not open without Quicktime 7.0.4, which has the pops and clicks. When I talked to Apple a few weeks ago, they had no idea what this was about. Hopefully, someone will figure out how to repair 7.0.4.
But again, the songs on iComp that are encoded using LAME or iTunes, are fine. It's the playback that is vexing. |

The problem hennessey is talking about is something different. I've had that too. Something about the way GB processes the beginning of a track sometimes gives a pop. |
