As far as being on the front page of the site, if someone wants to achieve that kind of popularity, there are a number of things that you can do that will certainly put you there. I guarantee you if you do the things listed below it will happen. It is an exact science.
Do lots of covers.
Do lots of collaborations.
Post thousands of comments.
Comment on the songs of those who comment on yours (if you scratch mine I'll scratch yours).
Put songs up with vocals.
People get drawn into covers more than anything else on this site and across the internet, they just are, because those songs have all ready became well-known, and people want to see how you are going to spin it. People take covers very personally and critically.
Collaborations have multiple links on multiple pages so its just more likely that people will find the link to your song that way.
The more comments you leave the more links you leave to your music, so those that comment a lot are at an advantage.
When you comment on those that comment on yours, it sort of creates a commenting cycle, which helps get more favorites, higher ratings and more links to your music posted essentially.
When you post songs with vocals in them, lyrics and words tend to give the songs more meaning to people. The beat can be extremely simple or whatever, but words draw people in.
So as you can see it really is a science. The top songs are not always the best songs, but they are the most heard songs by the most heard artists, and that's fine. Artists that are great for example that probably are not on the top but certainly could be would be Joshua_Irwin and Retrolust for example.
When I first joined the site I wanted to have top songs, but I realized that it would never happen over time because I realized why and how the songs rose to the top, and realized I just wasn't willing to do the things that are required to make my songs on that list. Making music was more important to me than making the icompositions popularity list.
For example, I never really do covers. I don't do that many collaborations. I don't post music with lots of lyrics or vocals, I don't generally subscribe the scratch your back philosophy and I don't post thousands of comments.
You just have to put up your music and take what feedback you get and appreciate it, good or bad. Hopefully people will be honest and comment truthfully and listen to the whole song or instrumental you put up. You need to make music though because you feel it and enjoy it on some level and not put too much emphasis into making a list that honestly will not truthfully reflect the real value of the music you produce or how people appreciate it.
Just my opinions. |

I think that is a spot-on analogy of how the iComp Top Songs list works James... Well said! |

I voted for nothing. A list of top songs is meaningless if there is no separation between recently uploaded and older uploads. There is no way to show songs which are popular from songs which are being "previewed".

I spend exactly zero time thinking about any of this type of stuff.
I'm neither for it nor against it.
Thanks iCompositions for a great site and community! |

Top 10 in each genre? It would not be accurate because I don't think I've listened to enough in each genre to fairly judge. I actually do not really care for a top 10 list. I think its inaccurate to some degree because the top artists will get way more exposure than the artists who just upload one item that is just incredible. There are some songs that stand out in my mind from my Favorites list by DJ Marvel (Childhood 2.0) and Acreus, etc.. but I don't think I could come up with a good list that was fair. |

I didn't actually start the post, I was just another poster responding to the original topic, basically making my case that its not an important thing to have a top 10 list. I was saying that based on observations, here is what is in common with many of those people who are consistently in that list on the front page of top songs, for those that do care. To me personally, its not an important thing because I don't view the list as reflecting any personal value on the music that I create, nor do I feel should any of you. |

and btw, this is many times i actually say this, this post has nothing to do with people wanna look for the best way to get listed on top 10, it was an idea of generating new look on icomp, it has nothing to do with finding a way to get listed
why when people suddenly hear the word "top 10" they only came to one conclusion, which is "it is must be a bout a way to get listed" gee
and btw , no ones is telling everyone should listen to all genre, just pick the one you mostly hear on your daily life, it is that's simple
i just can't believe that saying the words "top 10" can bring so much negative vibe and thought , it is not a taboo words.... lol |
