Jazz piece, done in Logic with fake trumpet, bass, drums, piano. I've lowered the trumpet level more, and fixed the problem with the last upload which was a really long silence at the end.

I'm open to some serious constructive criticism here. The only thing is anybody who says "it would be better with real instruments" - I don't have any and can't play them very well if I had them, but if u want to do a version of this with real instruments, I'd be very open to that.

I like it the only thing I might would fool with is panning the piano a little more to one side and the horn a little to the other side to give it a sonic quartet feel of how they may be positioned live. Eq wise it sounds cool to me... if you are going for an older jazz feel I would darken (muffle) the sound a little, but not a must at all. Cool post thanks for sharing.

I would have to agree with hiphop... In my opinion, the piano should sit about 35 or 50 to the left. Bass and drums sit in the center and are fighting the piano. Horns seemed doubled and pan out well but setting them on the right would work too. Composition is nice and EQ is good.. just a panning issue here perhaps? Well played nevertheless.

Man I love this. I can't find anything wrong with it and not like I am trying to either but I think it has a quality of its own. Really, really good IMO!

Thanks for the feedback/ heads up. I think I can get pretty lazy in terms of placement/imaging/panning/ etc.

Cool composition and feel.
I lack an indication of the purpose of the track.!!! Can not be constructive without knowing that.

Regarding the question on eq; For me it is perfectly fine - for listening to what interests me musically in your track and which I can enjoy. It even sounds fine in mono!!

As for fake sound - Its a can of worms, but I have no problems here, I even prefer this to many instances of players of 'real' instruments.

nice song, well written EQ and mix seem fine from my perspective. In my opinion the trumpet would sound better dry...nice job!

Interesting piece. I like the chord work and the harmonies you create. You've created a very nice, angular melody. It meanders with purpose. The spatiality was fine; a bit monaural. Perhaps see what you can get with panning. I heard a wee bit of minor clipping in the percussion, especially at the beginning. That repeating percussion part - sort of like a triangle - could perhaps benefit from more variation. True of all the percussion; varying the percussion(flams, ruffs, drags, rim shots in the snare for example) could perhaps create more in the way of interest and impact. A trumpet is not an instrument that is easy to emulate or sample. I do agree a little drier might help. Have you considered replacing the Trumpet with a French Horn? The Trumpet line is not that high, and with some stopping, muting, and the use of 'cuirve'(brassy), you might be surprised how effective it could sound taking that line. Nice work indeed and an enjoyable listen!

I dont think it matters where you put what or what outweighs the other in the mix...
This is a very cool statement.

Very intelligent, and very clean.

love the drums....and I agree on the panning, but only if you were actually going for that live stage feel.....bass is cool but a bit overpowering(too upfront as opposed to the piano)....perhaps more felt than heard would be a good way to go...overall though I really like the piece....sorta laid back bebop ....sorta Miles-ish.....

Peace!

I couldn't begin to tell you what to do with this, jazz is not really my thang ... but I liked it ! After a couple of listens I guess I would say a little more variation with the drums.

Can't recall what the first version sounded like, yet I truly liked it and downloaded it, feeling I could enjoy improvising on such a chord progression - so I'll download this one and replace it !

I've been lazy with the panning too. Then I realized, especially recently with my last piece - uploaded here - that it takes a moment to do and does magic, giving each instrument a little more of a space of its own in the field or space.

Fine work - thanks !

This is a great jazz composition. I really like the chord changes and the trumpet melody. I thought that the EQ sounds fine. As others said, you can experiment with it according to what style of jazz you want it to sound like, but it's fine the way it is. Enjoyed!

Really captivated by this unstable yet constructed rythmic

I like this mood a lot

my modest opinion : bass (which i already like) should obtain more independancy : I mean sometimes 'leave' piano to escape and 'stick' with drums... like a flow (well , that's my vision smiley )

Anyway, very good work (I'm listening to it on loop smiley )

PS: if you wish, I'm a bassist open to collab' smiley

Same me, I would have to agree with hiphop, is to panning the piano a little bit more. That is all that is missing, otherwise everything is perfect.

I'm having a listen on a good stereo and the song sounds good. You have mixed this fine. When the horns come in try to make sure the first note of the horn does not appear to loud. Why.. Some players.. tend to blow to hard "sometimes" on that first note. Not all! Try to to over use reverb.. because it ads noise in the track and lots of instruments have their own natural verb. "less is more".

E.q - Try and reduce e.q and compensate by having less and making adjustments to other instruments to compensate. As far as the highs and lows I can hear everything.. Panning is a matter of taste but the piano is an instrumental may sound better panning slightly either left/right. I enjoyed your song. Nice tune.
