In 1985, after my grandmother died, I composed this arrangement of the Welsh folk song/hymn "Abide with me" to sing at her memorial service. In 2000, the Lauds Choir of the Church of the Epiphany included this choral arrangement on their CD, "I'll Sing On".

Here it is, 25 years later, and I post this hymn in memory of my mother who passed away to a higher plane: Junerose Place, June 2, 1920 - November 4, 2009.

Godspeed your celestial travels: In life, in death, in life beyond death you are in good company. Thanks be to God.

Having lost both parents--12 days apart, in 2006, I can relate. My condolences, Mary. This is glorious. One of my favorites (from many) from you.

Very lovely arrangement. To have a Choir like this sing your work is quite a stroke for ones ego.

Brilliant....

the combination of skill and talent and inner most wonder from the soul of God is just breathtaking..

What I find fascinating is you have the talent of a hip hop artist... a child playing with blocks, and scientist all rolled into one... and then theirs one more thing..

That simple innocence called talent... Im not sure of another word... The x factor... To be in your own world... It comes through , or breaks through all the theory... It beams out... ITs wonderful... Its like listening to the heart and inner mind of an innocent child...

My mother will soon go as well...

May the waters of Valhalla be with them on their journey...

I've listened to this many times, over the months. Loss is never easy. It's a loss. No doubt. However, what a gem of a piece. Whether you arranged this in 1985 or in 2009 is moot. Sometimes - unbeknownst to us, we can write and touch the ethos and melos. It doesn't really matter that we don't know it at the time. It matters that it happens. That is all. For me, this is one of those pieces...like Mahler, like Mozart, like all those who write Memorial music and music for memorial, this soundly resounds for me. It's controlled, but it is not. Thank-you, Mary, for writing the music that I cannot. My condolences for your loss.
